Start off with a little extra equippment?
Does anyone ever regret Link not having a few more pieces of equippment in sequels?
Like in MM, he could have gotten his slingshot or boomerang when he changed back to normal, instead of just a shield. In AoL, he could have started with...well, anything at all would be an improvement. In LA, he may have had his invisible cloak to help him get to his sword. Maybe monsters could have dragged it off to a cave, and he would have to sneak in. Some items have reappeared in multiple games, but sometimes I wonder why he doesn't have much in his inventory in the sequels where it's the same Link from before. That may be a good reason to make early dungeons of sequels harder, if he started with a few extra pieces of equippment. |

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
I believe that there should be a memory card system thing. Like... If you have a bow in one game, in the direct sequel, you would have a bow because the information that you had a bow in the last game would transfer, but that would only happen when you started a game (so you can't get the bow and light arrows after you started a game with only a bow in the direct sequel).

That would look cool, but only if the weapons shown are the ones registered on the C buttons or whatever. Otherwise, by the end of the game you wouldn't be able to see him for all the stuff.

![]() Let's say there's a TP2. Now, I'm sure there will be a lot of people that will play TP2 without ever playing TP- or any Zelda game for that matter. Makes sense, right? Now, that newbie needs to get used to the targeting system, sword techniques, camera adjusting, and general stuff. That's a lot to take in- just think about how long it took you in TP before you could actually do something. If you added teaching someone the bow and arrow... I just think it'd be too complicated, too early.

Zelda really needs to bring back the harder second quest, or introduce easy and hard mode. I am likeing the idea of showing the weapons you set to buttons. That could be a good improvement for Link's look. |

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
I agree get something like: Wooden Sword -> Hero Sword -> Master Sword setting with Master Sword being the equivelant of doing the Cave of Ordeals with 3 hearts while being blindfolded.
Starting with additional equipement isn't really necessary, though perhaps in the upcoming Metroid you start with additional gear as loosing all your gear for the third time in a row may be a little bit much. If they can pull it off nicely then perhaps I want to see it in the upcoming Wii Zelda as well.

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
i think it'd be great if link started with some other minor item before getting the sword, since it seems to be the norm that link doesnt get a sword until a short way into the game. your ideas Daphnes are awesome by the way.
the only problem i foresee with giving the character too much too soon is the learning curve dramatically rises. instead of being led into each new item and it's mechanics slowly and at your own pace, you must become with more items sooner, as soon as you boot up the game. i would personally love to see it though. say in a hypothetical sequel to tWW (ignoring PH for this argument), link could already have the telescope, sail, maybe a completed sea chart and the power bracelets, just to cut some of the tedium out of collecting the boring stuff.

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
The beginning of the games can be the most tedious part, what with the intro dialogue and the tutorial on items. It may be worse to ad more items that need tutorials, but come on. Who really needs a tutorial on how to swing a sword and shoot a bow?
I don't remember tutorials in the earlier games. Maybe they could make tutorials optional. There will be a training area, where different people will give you a different lesson. Veteran players can skip this, while newbies can take them if they want. |

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
Yeah, I think a little extra equippment would be fair. I mean of course it's fun to find the items as you go along but perhaps they could include some other random stuff in your inventory like at the start...I dunno but some things that are cool and that you use earlier on in the game. One thing I would like to see in the next one is more upgrades for swords, shields & clothing etc.

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
Too complicated too early to have more stuff? Wow we really are babies.
Point is, Zelda is becomming very very EASY. It seems we are all looking for ways to "spice" it up. More items to start with is not the answer. You may like it at first, but 10 minutes in you will forget you even have all the items. Why? because in terms of zelda you wont need the items until the first dungeon, which will just feel like any other dungeon we have ever done. Nice idea, but uneeded. Not because it's complicated. I mean, I guess it is too much at one time if your 5. |

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
ya thats what i mean the things u have on c-button items only...if halo 3 u can see your spare weapons attached on your back locked in ready to be switched...looks badass in my opinion...have your bow and quiver and pull out the arrows like legalos haha sweet! what was nice though is even if u had the lantern out it would hang on oyur belt working while u used another weapon

Re: Start off with a little extra equippment?
i'm not saying that the items require tutorials on the mechanics of how to use them, of course they are easy to use. but the way the game is made, each time you get an item you proceed with various challenges and situations that show you what sort of situations to use them in. i can foresee some people playing the game, getting stuck and not realizing that the bow theyve had since the start can beak the rope thats blocking their path (or some other thing like that). likewise, you might be playing and not even realize you have a certain item.
all these things need to be explained at some stage.
