Devil May Cry: Should Zelda start inspiring new franchises?

When the Resident Evil series needed some new innovation, Capcom began working on new ideas for gameplay and playing experience. One of these prototype concepts played very well, but it was not considered fitting for the Resident Evil series, so it was transformed into a brand new franchise called "Devil May Cry".

Now, on this board and others, I have seen some very interesting concepts for future Zelda titles that, lets face it, have absolutely no chance of reaching the development stage. One of the Nintendo heads (either Iwata or Miyamoto, I forget) made it absolutely clear that the company was not interested in developing mature titles, which means no realistic wars and no guns.

But does a game need to feature "The Legend of Zelda" as its title to hold the Zelda franchise as the standard of single-player adventure gaming? Could first-party and third-party developers look at the experiences that Zelda games have created and apply them to their own original IPs? You would not see characters from the Zelda universe, but to see them reimagined as brand new characters would retain the same charm.

This topic is about taking imaginative ideas about future Zelda titles, such as a futuristic setting or with Link as a hardened soldier, and explaining how various elements of the Zelda series, whether they be story or gameplay, could be applied to new interesting projects. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

Yep, I can definitely see cutscenes between Link and Zelda in a war looking at echother in despair.

One thing that I'd like to point out: A game doesn't need to be about wars and guns to be mature.

What are you really saying though? I don't understand what your trying to get across. Do you mean if Nintendo should let other developers "use" their ideas or...

I'm saying that instead of people imagining their own Zelda titles, they should start imagining new titles with Zelda as their inspiration, because there is more room for innovation and more likely to become a reality.

Nintendo to be working on a new Zelda game, and then it becomes a new franchise? an interesting idea, but im not sure if it would happen.

"from the people that brought you Legend of Zelda comes ...." sounds pretty cool aye.

a Zelda Spin off possibly, but a new franchise that is somewhat inspired, or influenced by LOZ? i cant deny the possiblity, but to me it doesnt seem very likely. PH comes out soon, and i heard there was another one for wii coming out (sometime). I think Nintendo will continue to make LOZ games for a while yet before it branches off into sometime else.

Re: Devil May Cry: Should Zelda start inspiring new franchises?

You mean Nintendo should start a new franchise, but one that has its roots in Zelda? I like that idea... Zelda would still be around and everything, but something that plays similarly and is fresh and new would be a good way of using elements that just wouldn't fit in Zelda. It'll probably never happen, but I like the idea...

No he means that "mature game" developers should take inspiration from Zelda because Nintendo isn't going to be making it themselves anyway- if they really want to show inspiration ideas.

Both you and lordanyofx explain what I was referring to. I'm saying that everyone wants to see something that will never happen with a Zelda title, so I am saying use the interest to think about new titles based on the best elements of Zelda.

And how the hell do you want me to answer "Should Zelda start inpsiring new franchises?"

If you have something to say, just say it.

Yes/No/Maybe...

Of course it would be no, why would anyone want other franchises stealing the ideas Zelda has? It's not like it hasn't already been done anyway.
