New Game Style To Be Adopted

Don't know if something like this is already in a thread but...

I had this idea a long time ago. For the Sonic fans out there, remember Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut? In this game, you had to complete six characters' sides of the story, then do a final part, where you fight the final boss.

I was thinking...what if Zelda did this? You could choose to be Hylian (Link), Goron, Zora, Gerudo, and any additional races that happened to be in the game. Maybe even Ganondorf, or one of his minions (In Sonic DX, there was E-101, Dr. Eggman's robot). This way, you could see how the evil person affects all of these races, from their point of view.

Each story would intertwine, meeting the other characters here and there, sometimes even battling them. At the end, they could band together, or maybe Link would get the Triforce of Courage and defeat Ganondorf for the last time.

Personally, I think this approach would be a very popular choice for Nintendo to make. This would allow for more play time, better replay value, etc. What do you think?

That would be very interesting. The idea would need a major overhaul from Sonic, though. While it works perfectly for Sonic, Zelda is much more open-ended. I could imagine a specific level having to be played as a different character, much like Kafei in Majora's Mask. We'd probably never get Ganondorf, unless we got a specific game as him, which would be awesome...

I don't suppose I have to warn for spoilers, do I? Since it's already in the description of these forums...

Yeah, I think all Zelda players would love to be Ganondorf. Maybe they could make one where he's suspected as the bad guy, and you have to clear his name so he isn't sent to the Dark Realm (again).

But I think this could actually work. Say TP...you could be a Goron, and witness the patriarch's change. Then you have to try and stop Link from coming, maybe help the funding of building the bridge, starting the store in Castle Town. Something like that.

Or maybe be Prince Ralis, and find out what happened exactly, and then give Link that coral earring, and go back to the Zora's Domain. Or be a Twili! Maybe you could witness first-hand how Midna was kicked out, how Zant took over, etc.

Re: New Game Style To Be Adapted

This would be a very interesting idea, albeit very non-Zelda. It wouldn't be much of a game, it would be more of a device to expand the plot. Which would be very cool for a lot of people, like me, but others might not like it.

Unless you could come up with a way to have action and adventure as well as the same plot over and over again.

It would certainly be cool, but it wouldn't progress the plot at all. That would be more of an "easter egg" than part of the actual game story. I'd rather have it worked into the game story; perhaps you start off the game as Zelda, when something happens that dramatically sets the conflict, and then it's actually a prophetic dream of Link's. Or, in a much less dramatic way, Link requires something from the Gerudo Desert, but there's no way to get in, the Gerudo are on lockdown. A Gerudo offers to fetch it for him, and you play as her for a little while. Something like that would have more replay value; the character would wait at the border of the area you couldn't get in. The first time, there's a specific thing Link needs, and the other times would be... "do you need anything else?" and you get to hang out in the area. I think that stays more with the gameplay of Zelda; each area is important to the game story, but you can return and just have fun after the plot progression is done, like Lon Lon Ranch in Ocarina of Time.

I wouldn't want to play as him... anyway, this idea seems a bit... gimmicky? I'm sure if Nintendo really set out to do this it could be good, but I remember in Sonic it took quite a bit away from the actual quests. I only liked Sonic's and Tails'. Zelda seems to lend itself better to one large, open quest.

Well let's say there are chosen ones from each race. Then they all have to save their race, which helps Link in saving the entire world. Something like that. If a plot could be thought up for this that would let all races go through dungeons and temples, a few cities, and explore large landscapes, this could be a good game.

Re: New Game Style To Be Adapted

Ugh I hated Sonic Adventure mainly because it did this. I play Sonic games to play as Sonic, and I play Zelda games to play as Link, end of story.

Re: New Game Style To Be Adapted

It seems like a good idea but being fleible enough to do this in a zelda game (where most of them have been very much in the same in just controlling link, and maybe using a different character for a few seconds in certain parts) would be a hard task, and it would take away the classic zelda feel.
