New Phantom Hourglass Screenies!

New screenshots for the upcoming DS Zelda, Phantom Hourglass, have been released. Most were shown in magazine scans released on the net weeks ago, but some art new (plus they are in better quality). Let's look them over, shall we?

As you can see from the artwork, niether Link nor his fairy seem to like the mysterious looking man. Perhaps he drains your rupee count in exchange for his help?

This screenshot suggests that maybe this strange man will help you into the 'Main Dungeons'. Also, it is obvious that you meet him fairly early in the game since Link's heartcount is only 3.

Check out the boat. It is a different design than the one shown in the first and second trailers. Does this mean Link will be getting new boats as the game progresses?

The onther new screenshots can be seen here.

Re: New Phantom Hourglass Screenies!

The strange man reminds me of Jack Sparrow, so now I shall call him Jack until we learn his actual name.

Interesting thing to note; in The Wind Waker, close-ups of Link's seemingly black eyes reveal they are green. This is the same with both Tetra and Ganondorf, whose eyes are blue and red respectively. We know for a fact that this is the same Link from The Wind Waker. So who messed up and colored Link's eyes brown in this artwork? I find that funny.

It's probably a just a creative change made by the designers. This was done in MM as well. If you look at Link's Kokiri Sword in MM, it looks far different than the one in OOT. Early screens of MM showed that Link still had the same Kokiri Sword, and even a famous piece of MM's artwork still constains the oldstyle sword.

Anyways, Phantom Hourglass is looking pretty interesting, but I'm still not expecting much from it after being disappointed with the last 4 Zelda games (tWW, FSA, tMC, and TP).

Yeah, but they rarely do it with character design. I don't think it's anything huge, just interesting.

The graphics on this game are utterly amazing in polygon count and texturing! And the islands look much bigger than in Wind Waker.

Same here. But if the game is relatively unpredictable and if it doesn't lose steam as it goes on, I'll probably be happy with it.

I think the brown might just be a shading thing. His eyes still look a bit green at the top. His eyes are green in the other piece of official PH art, too.

Anyway, I'm really excited for this game. I'm not totally sold on how the graphics look ingame, but it's to be expected, being on DS and all. I can't wait to see what kind of story they'll give us. And that new use for the grappling hook looks very interesting; I hope it's well implemented.

When it comes to Zelda games, I suppose you can call that new, but overall, that's what Grappling Hooks are used for (to climb and go across walls and gaps). They aren't usually known to be used to attack enemies...unless it's in the hands of Jackie Chan
