It seems its all about the HoT

The Hero of time, yes it seems its always being pulled back to him. There is always references of heros of the past and a legend of a great hero, of course talking about HoT. It seems every game has something to do with this time hero. Isnt it "time" for a new GREAT hero to emerge? Yes we have, the twilight hero, wind waker hero, but they all are in the shadow of the HoT's greatness it seems. What really bothers me is how they just kind of slowly bring him in here and there in games except the full out TWW statue of Link lol!
I was just getting the "hero's bow" in the goron mines today and it said this bow belonged to a legendary hero of the past. Well i wonder who that would be? In OoT it was called the fairy bow, now its the hero's bow. Dont get me wrong, i love OoT, and the HoT (the best ever it seems.) but I really want another crazy new hero to emerge with the impact that the HoT did. Wouldnt you guys agree?? Any thoughts on this, or better yet some ideas of what a new great hero could be the hero of?? story...etc...or...They should just make another game that involves Link the HoT in Hyrule with another time adventure game (hell i would play it...i would love it! the exact same hyrule.)

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

Well, consider the fact that the Hero of Time is the first Link who ever saved Hyrule, and he did it in such a way that is perfect for storytelling. Every hero that comes after will be compared to him. To make a more mundane comparison, consider the song "Imagine". John Lennon sang it. Everyone who ever covers the song will be compared to him. I do agree that Heroes should be compared to some of their more immediate predecessors, but the Hero of Time connection is always going to be there.

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

Also don't forget that the two Heros you mention, the Hero of Twilight and Hero of Winds are both the next heros after the HoT, along the two timelines, so at that time, he was the only hero to actually reference, unless you believe the FS saga is actually first, in which case yes there perhaps should have been a reference to the other hero.

As for the difference in name of the HoT's bow, as discussed before, TP comes in the child line, where Link did not have the Fairy Bow, he did however pick up the Hero's Bow in MM, which he may of then brought back to Hyrule if he returned. It could also be a reference to a previous Hero that we have not heard of before, as we know of no reason why the Gorons would hold the bow with the pride they do.

As for the other games, they were created before the HoT was even an idea, therefore there is no mention of him. So really he is only spoke of in the two 'direct' sequals to the games he featured in. Not really that over-referenced IMO.

I dont think its over-referenced, if they are going to talk about the HoT at least actually say it, not bits and pieces here and there, just make another HoT game. What I'm saying is, i want another hero to come along that really sticks into your mind, like HoT.

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

OK so what do you think makes the HoT so great? I mean he did basically the same as all the others right? Saved the land of Hyrule and usually Zelda (typically). Simply because of time travel? Please elaborate....

i think the environment, the imposing doom somewhat like MM. The ability to control time, the songs, the ocarina i think just pulled it all together that made it so amazing.

they need to get another set of items/plot to fit perfectly like they did with OoT. It hasnt felt the same with the wind waker, twilight princess. or the handheld games.

I agree completly and totally with you. I think we can all agree that Hero-of-Time Link is totally awesome, and references are cool, but they should either outright say it or leave it alone.
I did see a difference between WW and TP's handling of it though.
In TP..we had a ton of references.." tales are told all over Hyrule of the legendary hero and you bring them all to mind" ( Renado to Link ), Impaz recognizing Link by his clothing and the biggest offender in my mind was the Hero's Shade. He makes vague references to being a hero, he's dressed like a knight and haunts the castle area..he's missing an eye.
So instead of talking of us talking about Hero-of-Twilight Link: everyone wants to know if the Hero's Shade is OoT/MM Link, if he is: why is he missing an eye? Did he become a knight? How did he figure into Ganondorf's execution, how did he spend the rest of his life? All they did was make the new hero seem unimportant to us fans of OoT.
WW in contrast: They directly referenced OoT Link. They said he disappeared and was not there to fight off Ganon. So we got some sort of closure..and WW introduced a new hero: he got compared to the old, but it was outright and IMO the HoW stuck in my head because of that. He was similar to the old, but different.
I am really not a fan of seeing another HoT game...I honestly don't think they can capture that same feeling...I felt they tried in TP..but failed. TP Link had too much personality, he was his own person, with definate feelings and desires apart from the player, unlike the pretty much emotionless HoT.

Twilight princess doesn't necessarily reference to the HoT. Just putting that out there. It only says hero of legend, not Hero of Time.

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

Uh, as for the new Hero of Time, the Link in each time emerges to fill his role...As in Wind Waker, there is the legend of the Hero of Time, and Link in that game comes in and becomes the Hero of Time, or at least has the essence of him inside him.

I don't believe it's overreferenced. It's what makes the LoZ series much different from others. Are there any other games with the Hero of Time? It's like saying "Oscar" without "Meyer". Just not right.

Or, perhaps more apropos, a Legend of Zelda without Link.
Link is what BUILDS this series, as is the Hero of Time.

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

There's no need for another hero....

1) Hero of Time - OoT
2) Hero of Men - tMC
3) Chosen Hero - TP
4) Hero of Winds - tWW
5) The hero's shade (OoT Link most likely) - TP
6) Hero of Ages and Seasons - OoA/OoS

I suppose there could be more heroes but there appears to be quite a few already. PH and MM each have the same hero from a previous game.... But I guess it would be nice to see some more references to the HoW and the chosen hero.... oh well.

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

Another thing to keep in mind: by most conventional split timelines, Twilight Princess has no other games between it and Ocarina of Time, save Majora's Mask, which is the same Link- it only has one hero to reference.

Every time we have a new Link, we have a Hero; some of them aren't titled, but fit the mold. I do think other Links should get references, though. While the Hero of Time is certainly important, he's hogging all the spotlight.

Could you imagine a sequel to A Link to the Past where that Link figured as much as the Hero of Time in The Wind Waker in that game? Oh man, that would be great...

Yes it would be nice to get another "great" hero that people start referencing too along with HoT

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

Of course they keep referencing the HoT (I have noticed this too). They have not yet made a Zelda with as much overwhelming popularity as OoT. They want to refer to the game, not just the hero.

When there is a Zelda that the majority can agree is the best ever, and where the hero doesn't seem like he's in the shadow of the old one like TP Link, then that one will be referred to.

Well, OOT is supposedly the very first game in the entire Zelda timeline (I beleive Nintendo states this themselves.) So it would be logical for them to refer to the Hero of Time.

Re: It seems its all about the HoT

i just got into lakebed temple. When u go into the graveyard you see the spiritual stone symbol on the rock at the very end. I wish there was an explanation for this, a random gamer wouldnt get the link between TP and OoT.
