Re: First person Zelda

No. Violently no. I really would hate it if the next (or any official Zelda title) was a First person game. It would be too hard to recreate the Zelda feel from first person, fighting several enemies would be nigh on impossible to emerge victorious, the scope of the game would seem odd, walking places would be much less fun. I really really would hate it if any Zelda was First Person

Re: First person Zelda

Well, it´s a possibility. I remember seeing some 1st person Zelda screenies... so Shigy have been testing the idea.

I haven´t voted. I´m not sure how it´ll end up... it can be pulled amazingly, or awkwardly. I prefer 3rd person, but 1st person adds a new level of immersion... but... it can provoke claustrophobia, but... gah!

UNless its a mini game I say no. The thing I have always liked about Zelda was that is was in third person view.

Re: First person Zelda

No. I once had an idea about a third person game where the Z targeting would bring you into a first person view just to fight, but even that seems too awkward to me. Third person allows the most freedom to explore.

For those who would want it though, I say it could be optional.

Re: First person Zelda

Watch the end of this video.
The Hylia - Nintendo News, Reviews, Media and More!
They experimented with the idea for Twilight Princess, but they decided to scrap it because it (if I recall right) made the player feel disconnected from the game and because it completely worked against the cinematic presentation they're aiming for in the Zelda games.

@ the optionists: Do you realize how this change of perspective would affect gameplay? They wouldn't be able to add an option to change between the two without doing some heavy gameplay compromisation on both ends. And we all know compromisation sucks.

Re: First person Zelda

I guess the option wouldn't hurt, I imagine it would turn out abit similar to Oblivion on the xbox360, but purely a first person game wouldn't be a great idea. 3rd person all the way for me.

Re: First person Zelda

As much as I love Oblivion, i played it in 3rd person as much as I could. First person just doesn't work to well with fantasy games, especially ones involving environmental puzzles such as Zelda. It would also be a pretty dark (in terms of lighting of course) game. Think about most of the dungeons in Twilight Princess. If it were FP, you'd need to play the game in the dark.

Re: First person Zelda

No, I wouldn't like a 1st person Zelda. 3rd person is way more immersive.

Re: First person Zelda

Link = sword. Swords are pretty hard to swing in FPS games because you can't gauge the distance between you and the enemy correctly. For games like Halo, Metroid Prime, and other games with GUNS, FPS works well. But when Link's main weapon is a sword, it would not. That, and everything else the other posters have said is why I think it would be a terrible idea.

Re: First person Zelda

FPS means "First Person Shooter" so technically, a first person Zelda game would not be an FPS game. Unless you change the "S" to "Sword."

Heh, "First Person Sword"...

No.

Re: First person Zelda

You see, this is why Red Stell failed in the sword combat. Fighting with swords in first person would make you feel like you are actually fighting ( Like seeing it through your eyes) but it would make it a lot more difficult, as in ist person shooters, you dont tend to see your body and where things are positioned- which could prove annoying with the sheild.

Re: First person Zelda

First person's great for immersion, but not for character attachment, and these games are all about Link. Besides, the Zelda games already manage immersion flawlessly.

I do not want to have a future LOZ game in 1st person perspective. However, if it was an optional sort of thing (like with Oblivion), that might be okay.

Last night, watching my husband play Oblivion in the 1st person LITERALLY made me sick. I'm sensitive to motion sickness, and sitting close to the 50-inch screen nearly made me vomit.

I actually prefere Oblivion in first person; mainly because Oblivion is all about carving your own path, you can really be whatever you want to be and do what you want to do, it's like a second life of sorts, and as sad as it makes me sound, I'd rather experience that in first person. But Zelda's just different, it's about Link, and you want to see Link as you play.
Oh yeah, and a 50-inch screen is crazy! Man, not surprised you felt sick. Must be awesome for films though.
