Re: futuristic

I'm not sure... I do like Zelda the way it is, but it might be a good change. I have a few personal rules though:

No guns, Hyrule could take a different evolutionary path than Earth and not have guns, just swords made of a material that can cleave metal. New and old items with futuristic twists that stay on the fantasy spirit of the series should be used.

No motorcycle Epona, use nothing or use an actual animal. It would seem too Final Fantasyish.

Not too many robots, but monsters with machine parts grafted on would be alright as long as the machine parts didn't have flashing lights or anyhting, they should just look like random metal bits.

The most important thing is that its stays Zelda. I still want nature, a forest, a field, I don't want Hyrule to be like a giant city, except for the main town. Temples, if used, would be fresh using futuristic puzzles, but would still be fun to explore.

Re: futuristic

Maybe... the remains of a future civilization, so that the characters, weapons, story, ect. stays Zelda but the temples and enemies can be highly advanced and mechanical, extending their abilities. It could also be a great story, if done right.

But no guns, no motorcycles, nothing like that. It has to keep its mysterious past-like Zelda feel, not to mention it would probably render the Master Sword useless, as well as Epona.

Re: futuristic

I liked the concept in that video, I'm sure Zelda could pull it off.

Considering certain Zelda games already have some high-tech machinery and whatnot, it wouldn't be too farfethced to see a futuristic Zelda sometime later on.

I agree with you both, and i kinda like the idea, the remains of a futre civilization and that. The guns, car, motorcycle is a big no for me too, instead it could be some kind of robot horse or other animal looking thing for you to ride on. It would be like a fallen futre world that might have lost it's civilazation in a big war, and now only have a little of the robotic technique left or something.

It might sound really bad or wierd, i just wrote down whatever that came up in my head ..

Re: futuristic

I don't think futuristic is the way to go. However, a more industrialized era boasting more advanced technology could be a very welcome change indeed.

Re: futuristic

I was put off by the Hidden Village's American West ambiance, lemme just begin by saying that. However, that might have been because the town was deserted as much as because it had a western theme. That being said, I don't think straying even that far from the high fantasy environment is a wise move for Zelda, although I would like to see more day-to-day technology being implemented in a realistic way--sewer systems, waterwheels, etc., utilized to a much greater scale than we see now.

Re: futuristic

I don't know if it's just me, but I like Zelda as medieval as possible. Why? Way too many games are futuristic and have guns and all that stuff. I wanna feel like I'm in a fairy tale or Lord of the Rings (not saying either should be copied). I don't mind futuristic games (I play Final Fantasy), but I want at least one series that sticks to the epic, medieval, fairy-tale atmosphere. Goron Mines is as futuristic as I'll allow Zelda to get. Anything else just feels out of place.

Re: futuristic

It makes sense to put some futuristic elements into the games: it has, after all, been hundreds of years since OoT in recent games. For instance, has anyone else put it together that there were searchlights at Forsaken Fortress? As in, electricity? But I didn't even think about it while playing because, although TWW is more into the future than other games, it still felt very Zelda to me in its atmosphere.
But I still go with my argument that, because of the ruins of a futuristic kingdom, technologically advanced elements could be put in.

I didn't mind the Goron Mines, mainly because there wasn't much that was "mechanized", but I agree that some elements were pushing the scope a bit (magnetic fields)... I think what put me off the most was the cannon to get out of Lake Hylia. Didn't fit and didn't really make sense.

One of the reasons I've liked Zelda is because it takes place in a world that's satisfyingly simple and logical, different from reality... There's enough futuristic stuff and advanced technology in the real world without having to see it in a game.

To my eyes, the inclusion of more advanced technology would seriously lessen the significance of simpler technology that forms the backbone of the game... like the Master Sword. However, I DO think it's good to have lots of technology that fits the era, like levers and water wheels.

Re: futuristic

It is an interesting idea, but I don't think it'll work. Perhaps if they made a Zelda game where you can go into the future, see the future of Hyrule and how things have changed, and be able to return to the past, that would actually be pretty cool. With this concept you have both the classic Zelda settings as well as something new and exciting. This could work, but I kinda doubt it. Or perhaps mixed technological advancements, like advancements in a certain kind of technology but not in others (pretty much how Zelda already is)

The idea would be good, but it should be a new seires, transforming zelda like that just wouldn't work out.
