No more left-handed Link?

Well, since Link is right-handed in Wii TP, does that mean Link in future Wii Zeldas will also be right-handed? Does it also mean there will be no more left-handed Link? (not counting Link in future handhelds)

That disappoints me some. I've always liked the left-handed Link. It made him seem more unique than other swordsmen because most were right-handed. I even gave Link the nickname "Lefty Link" awhile back because of it.

I'm gonna miss "Lefty Link" if he is no more in console Zeldas. ;_;

It would sorta be nice if you had the option to switch, but I doubt it would happen.

Re: No more left-handed Link?

They only changed him left handed in the Wii because they thought most people were right handed.

Plus this Land handed thing is only for the 3-D games; 2-Ds had reflections.

Re: No more left-handed Link?

No more left handed Link would be like no more Zelda in the games. In GC TP, he was left handed. Don't get all worked up just yet.

I guess "The Legend of Zelda" probably requires "Zelda" to be a character, huh?

Anyways, I think they're right, though. It's been awesome that Link has been left-handed from the beginning, but after Wii, he's going to be ambidextrous. By that, I mean that I'm sure that they will give players an option to choose whether they're left or right-handed. In games, like Phantom Hourglass, they'll keep his left-handedness, but otherwise...

The question is, how weird is it to move the Wiimote with your right hand and watch Link swing with his left? Would it really be that awkward?

Yeah, exactly. What I mean is since Nintendo thought most people were right handed and they made Link in Wii TP right handed because of that they'd do the same for other Wii Zeldas because most people are right handed.

Re: No more left-handed Link?

If Zelda Wii is 1:1, you should be able to choose between a right-handed or left-handed Link. After all, according to Nintendo, Link is supposed to represent the player. If that is true, Nintendo would give you a choice. If not, Nintendo is just contradicting themselves (like they usually do).

Making Link right-handed and mirroring the world in Twilight Princess Wii was totally unnecessary since flicking the Wiimote served the exact same purpose as tapping the 'B' button. If the sword fighting is 1:1, then that's a different story.

god, duh! of course not! only the wii users have the right-handed Link, and if you wanted the classic link, you'd have to have th G-Cube.

Naw dur. Though most people are right handed, what if Miyamoto makes a GC Zelda with a right handed Link?

Then we'll hang him by the gallows! ...Seriously, though, why would he want to make a right-handed Link? I'm sure he knows people like the fact that Link is left-handed, so there wouldn't be any reason to change that.

Re: No more left-handed Link?

TP link is right handed because thats how the wii remote works right? and since TP may be the last game to use the conventional game pad, its possible future links will be right handed. assuming i understand the "last of its kind" remark right.

im not really sure you moving your right hand and link moving his left would be all that ackward. In several RPGs on PC pretty much everyone will use the right there right hand on the mouse to attack, yet the character might have his weapon in their left hand, and that doesnt seem all that weird, but that could be because thats a totally different thing i guess

i would just take it as link is left handed because that is standard miyamoto practice, and you use the remote with the right hand becuase its convention and well most people are right handed.

Question, i havent played using the remote yet, (yeh i know, how lame) but if link is left handed in a future game, can you not just simple switch hands with the remote? i.e you would now both swing with the left? or would that be more ackwrad for some, not me im left handed.

i f link is right handed from now on i think ill miss left handed link. like i said earlier im left handed, having link left handed was really cool, not many video game characters are, they are mostly either right handed or ambidexterious.

which is good but not the same.

Actually, that's wrong.
Link is right handed in TP simply because there was not enough time to fix a left-handed Link, so they simply inverted the entire game, which is why TP GC and TP Wii are mirrored games.
The reason for Link being right handed was a time-constraint, not an active decision.

I guess switching Wiimote hands would be easy for some and harder for others. I'm right-handed. Second time playing TP, I had the Wiimote in my left hand until somewhere around the second temple. It's not impossible, but harder. First my right thumb took a while getting used to the joystick. ^^' And my left hand... Swinging the sword is no problem, just wave the controller. But shooting is, pointing at stuff with my left hand took a bit more effort. I'm sure if I kept using it, I'd get better, but last time I didn't have enough patience to practice more.

I like it that Link is left-handed, I thought it was a fun little detail about him. It's not a big deal, but I'd be sad if he was always right-handed from now on. I hope we'd get to choose. ...I'll learn how to use the Wiimote in my left hand if I have to...

Sidetrack
I played OoT today, and it was all okay, until I needed my sword. My hand was twitching on it's own before I noticed I needed to press B. xD Wii side effects: randomly shaking hands.

Sorry, what do you mean by "inverted" and "mirrored"? Is the whole game backwards in the Wii version?

Oh come on, does it really matter? He's still unique in-game if everyone else is southpaw.

Not really. In the 2D games, when you faced north or south, it looked as if it was in his left hand.

But I think you should have the option to choose...without mirroring the entire land.

Yeah, like in ALttP, when Link faces right or left, you're still seeing his shield on the hand you see on either side. It's like he magically switches hands for the sword and shield. I also agree we should have the option to choose.

Although it wouldn't matter for me, since I'm ambidextrous.

Re: No more left-handed Link?

The reason Link is left-handed is because Miyamoto is left-handed; it's a touch of Miyamoto in Link. I don't think that's going to change. In canon, Link is a lefty. (Lefties unite!)

However, with the Wii Zelda titles, there will probably either be a choice or just right-handed Link. He'll remain left-handed in the DS titles.
