Next DS Zelda

I don't know about you guys but I think that the next DS Zelda should look (in terms of graphics) like ocarina of time. It should have not a top-down view like all other hanheld Zeldas, but a camera like a console Zelda, with an L-targeting system. What do you guys think?

i say we should let Phantom Hourglass play out before we judge. I think your choices with the touchscreen gets limited if you have it OOT style..

Re: Next DS Zelda

With the improved graphics of handhelds now being capable of rendering 3D, I'm hoping they stay with the cartoony style, while the console ones are darker. It just seems to suit the systems.

No.

Save big 3D games for the consoles. I don't want Zelda completely losing it's 2D elements.

Same here while I do like the 3D Zelda's, its the 2D games that provide more of a challenge for me.

Re: Next DS Zelda

2D zelda's make me thing of a game that I can just pick up and play, without worrying about a storyline...or a timeline (cripes sake!)...or whatever. Just something that I can pick up, that's Zelda themed and so on. The next one better be harder, meaning enemies better do more than a half heart of damage, that's really ruining zelda for me.

Re: Next DS Zelda

Sorry to dissapoint you DakZhul, but I doubt that it will be any harder. If anything, it will be easier

From what i've seen of PH, link is pretty big on the screen, which is annoying as I wont be able to see very far, like I could in all 2D zelda. Hopefully the one after PH will go back to pixels and normal pixel link, not lame, cel link.

Re: Next DS Zelda

No, No, No, No.

Why did the PSP fail for gamers? The games get compared to consoles. As soon as we start to make the zelda games on DS comparable to console counterparts they turn into utter garbage.

I want another 2D Zelda.

Re: Next DS Zelda

I want MC link back, ALttP link back. I want more weapons suited to handheld. More Rocs cape, more magic wands.

And these should be suited to the DS.

How weapons on previous 2D Zelda should be adapted to DS
Sword: press b, like usual. Slicing with the stylus would get in the way of using weapons.
Bow Drag back with the stylus and let go to fire.
Boomerang Draw a path for it to take
Magic Wands Everytime you equip it, you have to draw the symbol for that staff to channel magic into it. After that, you use it as much as you want until yuor magic runs out or you unequip it. After either of those happen, you must draw the symbol again once you re-equip it or fill your magic meter again
Lamp Strike the screen like a match to light the lamp
Hookshot Exactly how you fire the bow
Gust Jar draw cirlces with the stylus to draw in air, and stop drawing to fire it out
Bombs Strike like a match to light, flick the stylus across the screen to throw it inthat direction, or tap link to drop it.

I want a game that involves a lot more wondering what/where to do/go where next, like in MC and the Source Of The Flow part. But more variation as to what dungeon you do.

So say, all dungeons are accessable from the start, you can travel to any of them, but with some you will need certain items to get to, and puzzles inside will need items in other dungeons to progress. This way, items wont get old.

Story, make it interesting. I want to actually fight in the Seal War. It would be very interesting to know what happened during that period of time. Many games talk about Ganon's Army, which probably means the monsters. But we never actually see an actual army. I want to fight wave after wave after wave of enemies. I would like to see Hylian Soldiers fighting.

Same here... I also think a 3D Zelda would be a little too much to handle for the DS.
And Nathan brought up a good point too, about the PSP. Handheld games need to be different to some degree from the console titles, or they will suck horribly.

I'm going to go with the crowd. I prefer 3D Zelda, but 3D games don't work on handheld games. Not yet anyway. Besides, I DO enjoy 2D ones, and they need a home.

Re: Next DS Zelda

I really doubt that, if Nintendo makes 3d games for the DS, that they'll make much money or get gamers completely stoked. Sure, I love 3d games as much as the next person, but being 3d would detract from "just playing the dang game," as I would say. Sometimes you want a complex story and some details to chew on, and sometimes you just want a simple, 2d game that you can just play.

For instance - if I'm feeling complex, I'll play OoT or something on my Wii.

If not, I'll go play one of the various 2d Gameboy games I've got.
I regret not having a DS. =[

Re: Next DS Zelda

Would another attempt at a side scroller be a good choice?
What if the problems with AoL were not present and modern RPG elements were implemented?

This was just a quick thought...

Yeah, I think it's 3D but with the top down perspective (for the most part) so, we keep our 2D zeldas, they're just more detailed.

Re: Next DS Zelda

*slaps self on head repeatedly* It's a 2D Zelda in a 3D eviornment. Best way I can phrase it.

Watch videos of it, then watch videos of AttP, then watch videos of OoT, and tell me which gameplay style looks more like PH.
