Starring Ganondorf

I had an idea a few months ago, a game where Ganondorf would be the main character.
The story would narrate Ganondorf's life before OoT, how he saw his people suffered on the desert while the rest of Hyrule had everything, when Ganondorf becomes the King of the Gerudo Thieves after the last one passed out, he goes from the desert and travels to find power to help Hyrule. It would narrate how Ganondorf was slowly corrupted by his lust for power. The game would end as OoT is starting.
It would be a Zelda game at it's core, but with more emphasis on Sword Techs and Magic Skills than on Inventory. Nintendo could also use the game to experiment changes on the main Zelda formula, and apply them to other games if they are succesful.

I voted "yes" because I think it would be a good idea to have him AS a main character but not THE main character. Let me explain.

I've always thought there should be a game where your sidekick is Ganondorf because an even stronger and more evil person has come to take over Hyrule and stole Ganondorf's ToP. Then you help Ganondorf get his ToP back because if you don't then Hyule is doomed. (or maybe they take Zelda's ToW and Ganondorf must team up with you because the person is so powerful).

Even if it's not that an idea like that would make for a good game IN MY OPINION. I don't see a game STARRING Ganondorf as being anything special.

I don't like these type of threads because Link should be the only main character in EVERY game. That's like starring bowser or luigi in a mario titled game (and I don't mean like Luigi's Mansion thats Luigi titled I mean like calling it mario and having Luigi).

It shouldn't have to be a Zelda title. It could be a spin-off.
As in Pokemon DP are the main titles, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are spin-offs. Not part of the main series, but made to try different mechanics.

In a general sense, I would not have any problem with a game starring Ganondorf. Something that would be tricky, though, is getting that same sense of farm boy --> bad-arse fighter. Would you identify w/ Ganondorf, knowing what it is that he will become?


However, I would rather Nintendo put their energy into making better Zelda games. A Ganondorf game shouldn't substitute for the release of Zelda games; in other words, don't interfere with the frequency of Zelda game releases.

Oh ok I get ya then. In that case yes that would be a pretty good game for me because Ganondorf is my favorite character so being him would be GREAT!

...If it does this then it wouldn't be. I also agree with Jehanne that they SHOULD make something like that as long as we can still get the good quality Zelda games at the same frequency.

Hmm... I don't know. It would be kind of cool, but somehow I prefer playing as Link with all his wierd gadgets and junk. I don't think it would be the same playing as Ganondorf and using nothing but swrds and fighting techniques and magic. Plus we'd all know the ending because it would have to lead up to Ocarina of Time. I would like to learn more about Ganondorf, but I don't think his own game is the way to go.

100% agree. I just can't see ganondorf with all these items and solving puzzles and stuff. HEs more of the guy to MAKE the puzzles, then actually solve them. And a game where you make a puzzle for a computer player to solve was already made for the PS2, and it bombed, so no probably a bad idea.

I guess I'm kind of a Zelda purist in the fact that I don't ever want a major Zelda game where you play as anyone other than Link. Playing as Ganondorf, or any other character, just wouldn't feel right to me. I would still play it, but I don't think I would consider it to be a true Zelda game.

It would compleatly change the way Zelda fans look at the game.... & that is what Zelda fans need!

Interesting idea... I'm a little torn here because in a sense it's a waste of a Zelda game not to make it about Link...
Ganondorf definately has the Darth Vader effect, whereby he's such a great bad-guy that we actually want to like him, but he's probably better off staying more evil. Actually, one major downside of having a whole game about him is that it seriously weakens him; it makes him a lot less special. what I would gladly see is a three way Link/Ganondorf/Some other really bad guy scenario by which you end up watching Ganondorf fight this newcomer... The new villain could seem ridiculously powerful, but when he oversteps into Ganondorf's territory and angers the real power, he gets destroyed. That way you get to root for Ganondorf without detracting from his power.

I think that's a great idea. After seeing the more human side of Gannondorf in WW, a spin-off chronicling his early life and rise to power could provide some very interesting insights into the character and into the Gerudo people.

It's a great idea for a spin-off, but I don't want to see Gannondorf in the next main Zelda at all, much less the whole game be about him.

I just think it'll be a bit weird seeing ganon of all people running around hyrule...or anywhere for that matter :XD

i have voted yes because i think it would be a great idea to star ganon, although in my opinion i think it would be a good idea to start the game off as link because theres like 7 differen links and i think ganondorf could be like, as black omnimon said, corrupted by his lust for power and undergo a weird transformation
if anyone doesent understand, ill explain it could be like the wolf in TP where there are times when you are link (who is really ganon in the game) and there are times when you are the real ganon, i have been thinking about this since i found this thread and i can really see a game coming together
i think that by ganon looking and playing almost the exact same as link, it would eliminate the fact that its not a zelda game, at the end, since it is supposed to be starring ganondorf, there would be a dungeon where you were ganon and there is this greater evil who curses ganon to be like that forever. i like this game idea, but its not just my opinion that counts, please tell me what you think of my specific game idea

It's a good way to lower the stead of a franchaise, like pok'emon. They were good games until pikachu was hiding behind every corner in some fluffy/plastic incarnation -- and people got sick of it.

Unless Ganon starts off a Link from the gerudo people, or something similar, and then pulls an Anakin... that may work. But you can't change the style of the game and call it Zelda: You may as well just start a new franchaise.

Spin offs are bad, that I agree with. However, looking at the games you mentioned its quite clear exactly why each game was shunned and it had nothing to do with what character stared in it.

I'm not asking for a side game that stars Ganondorf for the sake of novelty, I'm asking for a completely diffrent character to star in a main Zelda game because I'm sick of retreading the same gameplay each time.
