equipment, NOT the answer?

In my opinion, the next zelda wii shouldn't have lots of fancy new equipment. When I say "equipment", I don't mean swords, shields, tunics ect. Oh no, infact I think there should be more of those.
When I say "equipment", I mean items like the clwshot, boomerang, spinner, ball and chain ect. I think the classics such as the bow, the bottles and mabey a few others should stay but I think the game should revolve mainly around the use of magic and spells. What do you think?

Why?
More items = always better. >=P

It's not like they annoy you or anything, just leave them when you dun need em anymore.

Re: equipment, NOT the answer?

One of the reasons TP was so awesome was the insane items it introduced.

First up was the spinner. I had no greater joy in the game that riding on that thing on top of sand to run into a giant skeleton surrounded by its minions, and then grinding it up a giant pillar, jumping between that and the wall. It is one of the best boss fights in Zelda history, or at least would be with a bit more difficulty.

Right after that comes the ball and chain. I can't really explain why that is so cool, buy it's probably going to end up being a Zelda staple.

And, of course, the double clawshot. Boss #7 wouldn't have been nearly as exciting without it.

I'm not saying that items make the game, but they most definitely enhance it.

No, that would be awful. Zelda isn't about spells and that sort of magic. It is about the clawshot, the ball and chain and ofcourse the the spinner. It is about innovative items. I understand that you might want to walk around like a wizard but if you want magic and spells I suggest finding a nother game.

Re: equipment, NOT the answer?

They need to keep some of the Zelda standards, but they need to bring in new items that can be used in new inventive ways. There are only so many puzzles you can make with the same items over and over and over and over again.

Re: equipment, NOT the answer?

Leaving items and magic aside, There is way to many unique attributes of a zelda game for me to just walk away like that.

Now back to items and magic. My point is, I think it would give zelda more of a fantasy feel.
Also, Myimato (I think it was him) said TP would be the last of its kind. Maybe (although, probably not) that's what he ment and maybe that's why there was no magic in TP, to give us one really good last taste of items. Besides, its rediculous that Link can carry around 99 (only 90 in TP) Bombs the size of his head.

Re: equipment, NOT the answer?

Empowering weapons/items? Or like weapon levels like in OoA and OoS Kinda combines both. You should have the items used more, but say you can visit dungeons freely in no set order, but you have to have certain items you obtain in each to progress in the others, meaning items wont be used just once. You have to figure out the order to do the dungeons in yourself

Nah, Link is not a magician.
I thought the complete removal of magic power in Twilight Princess was a good step.

DUDE! (Yes I have to phrase it like that) Every game has that! In a FPS you walk around with enough weapons to supply a small army, in a RPG you walk around with so many swords that you could do acupuncture on a dragon and in a RTS buildings come out of thin air. IT IS A GAME. IT IS IMAGINARY. What do you want then? That for every bomb you have to go back to the shop to buy it? I suggest donating your games to charity...

Don't forget, the iron boots only make link heavier when he puts them on, but is carrying them around the whole time!

It seems that the general majority agrees with me: innovative items make Zelda great, and it would be lousy to just have a bunch of magic spells.

You're forgetting that when Link is in wolf form, Midna carries all his stuff with her magic power stuff. Why not the same in human form?

It's not just in TP, but WW and OoT have the iron boots as well, along with an @ss load of equiptment.

In Twilight princess, Link is not a hylian. The guy obsessed with the Oocca (damn, I forget his name) says that they are descended from the Hylians, which are close to the Gods, only the Oocca being closer (odd...)

Anyways, don't forget that no items will entirely magic spells has already been done. The name of the game was The Adventures of Link, widely considered to be one of the worst of the series ever. Even with a different, sidescrolling perspective, it might have been a good game with items. So, you're idea's taken, and no one liked it.

Re: equipment, NOT the answer?

Twilight Princess Link is Hylian; note the pointy ears. He might be a little diluted due to his apparent inability to do magic, but definitely Hylian.

I think a good compromise might be simply magic items, like in A Link to the Past. Innovative items are such a huge part of Zelda I can't imagine them being replaced or put to the side by magic spells. But you never know...

That's not what the guy says, he never suggests that there not hylians. "He says as far as we know (we meaning mankind of hyrule) the hylians are the closest race to the gods but I've been studying a race called the Oocca that were apperantly even closer to the Gods. They created a city in the sky for them to live in and at the exact same time Hyrule was created."

Re: equipment, NOT the answer?

I would like to see newer items actually, lots of them don't bother me. TP introduced many new items which made the game better. But in a way I agree with you about more swords, for example in OoT 3 swords, that is it. I think there should be 10 Swords, 5 Shields, 8 Tunics, and 8 boots. That would be great.
