Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

We don't know for sure if this will be a long game or not, but for now, what do you think? How long do you think it's going to take to beat the game?

My guess is about 15-20 hours. That comes judging from the length of WW though. Besides, Nintendo usually releases a shorter Zelda game after the big one(TP). Of course, I could be wrong and get impressed in the end with a long adventure, after all this thing about the "Main Dungeon" might make things different and less linear. But for now, I think it will take as long as TMC to complete

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

Short, I can't see this game taking me a long time. It could be long, but I really doubt it. I do like the idea of PH though. This main dungeon thing is very unique to the Zelda series.

I'm not sure. Short but hard and long in the 100% run.

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

I think it'll be short. The Gameboy game's are usually shorter. People say that TWW was short enough itself, so if this is the sequel AND on gameboy, it should be shorter. But I hope it's long! =)
P.S. Where do I go to read about this "main dungeon" thing. o_O

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

What? Why do people want a short Zelda game? I don't like it if they're too short. Yeah, TMC is kinda short and I loved it, but it was the only short Zelda game that I liked. I certainly want PH to be long with at least ten dungeons.

And what's this about a 'main dungeon'? I've never heard about such a thing.

It's not that we "want" it to be short. It's what we believe it to be.
The handheld games usually are infact shorter games. With the basic design of PH and how much can fit onto the DS carts, I could imagine the game will be short, but long enough to enjoy for a while.

Now if they had used a design similar to that of maybe ALTTP or FSA, then the game would be MUUCCHH longer.

As for the Main Dungeon... if you've played the Oracle Series, and linked from one file to the other, you'll notice an optional dungeon called the "Hero's Cave". This acts as a dungeon in which you can't advance unless you attain certain items from another dungeon.

I predict that Phantom Hourglass will be neither long, nor short, but somewhere in the middle.

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

Ok, officially it is a Nintendo DS, but it's a portable game system nonetheless and that means limits. Although I have a feeling it will be longer than we think, DS is a fairly good system.

Oh, I see. But, I'm sorry, I have played the Oracle series, but have not linked files yet. And I seem to recall a Hero's Cave already in OoA. You know, the place you go to get to the Maku Tree? Or is that a different cave? 0.o

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

I think Nintendo will impress no matter what and they do say quality over quantity, theres no point of it being a decent size but too easy (much like tWW which i finished without dying once, still great though) as long as i switch PH on and hear that classic music it'll be Zelda and herefore it's gotta be great LOL!

Agreed. You wouldn't blieve how much they can jam onto those cartridges.

It's a different cave with the same name. The Hero's Cave was also in OOS, and without linking the games, it was used to hide the Wodden Sword.

However, if you manage to link the games, in OOA, a new cave opens up, and acts as a cave-like dungeon in which you need to obtain items from other dungeons in order to advance.

In OOS, the cave where you obtain the Wooden Sword is replaced by this special cave.

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

Take the average time to complete TP just going through it (40 hours give or take) and then divide by 4, and multiply by 2.5 to 3. so basically 25 to 30 hours worth of play give or take a few. So a middle range.

just the same as they said of tp you beat it in 30-40 hours but if you do it twice you can do it in 15-20

Likely short; it's only a handheld piece of Zelda software, but it should keep us amused for a while.

It can hold more than a N64 cartridge could, you know. It could be just as long as OoT or MM, though I do doubt it. I'm just hoping for a long lengeth, good bosses and dungeons, and a gripping storyline.

The DS is a very different system, please get that through your heads, people.

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

Handheld Zelda software, Obsiqious Eye. That usually tends to make a game short. Besides, does PH really strike you as a particularly big game, on the back of TP? Don't just say TP is short and a disapointment, because it is a 'big' Zelda game. And DS is a Nintendo handheld; the only differences between it and GB are power and aptly named dual-screen. So I'm still hoping for something decent, but it will likely be short. Just a hunch I get.

Re: Phantom Hourglass: Long or short game?

I chose long before really thinking but I can't really make up my mind.

It could be long because WW was pretty long with the shards and stuff and they could try to equal it in length.

However, it could be short for the same reason. OoT was probably the longest Zelda game made so far and then when MM came out it was possibly the shortest (although not the easiest). So PH could be short to WW as MM was short to OoT.
