Would You Like A New Main Character! ( Not Link)

I certaintly wouldn't, but I was reading an article on a magazine about how the new Devil May Cry game for PS3 (Devil May Cry 4) is going to feature a new main character and it made me wonder, what if this happened to Zelda? I mean Link does turn into a wolf in TP but it's still Link, wouldn't it suck? although it wouldn't surprise me in the future since everybody is coming out with new and "bright" ideas nowadays. What you guys think?

Maybe a spin-off to Zelda would be nice, but Zelda games have seemed to gone too far now to change a main character for an actual Zelda game, its always been the green-clothed hero, Link, and changing that would be odd... although the title of the games doesnt even involve his name (With a few exceptions, Ex. Link to the Past, Adventure of Link, etc...)

Well if there was gonna be another chracter you controled, he/she would have to be firmiliar(sp?) like zelda or ganon.

Heh, a Ganon game? A game of Evil, kind of like Shadow the Hedgehog... minus the kiddy part.

Quite simply:

The Legend of Zelda is about the innocent young hero, and that sense of adventure and heroism is what has kept the series so great for so many years. Read some of lord-of-shadow's articles.

If nintendo even thought about changing Link...I'd like...start a rebellion or something. That would not be...gee...it just wouldn't be Zelda, I'd be mad.

I'm sure most of the fan-based population may get angry.

I dont think it would have the same feel or appeal to have the main character as anyone other than Link.

but if such a game existed yeh id give it a go (and if it sucked never speak of it again, lol)

I have said something like this in a thred before but maby it would be cool if you could play as Zelda for a part of a game. But that wouldent be a main character... Never mind.:embrsd: But other wise, Link is who got me into Zelda, I think we should keep him. Link is forever.

Why fix somethign thats not broken? To behonest I have not seen one Zelda fan who is tired of being Link.

Thing is its not a Zelda game unless the main character is Link. Getting a new main character would just be stupid and one of the biggest mistakes Nintendo could make.

I wouldn't mind playing as Zelda for some of the game, like in Paper Mario where you play peach for some of the game(although I HATED those parts)

They can play around with Link's design as much as they like. In fact, I think they should. But Link should always be the main character. And I'm also very against playing as another character even for a fraction of the game. Every game that does that feels cheap. You ARE Link. You can't all of a sudden take control of another character (unless you're using the command melody I guess, but that's different).

Hey, think of it this way, there have been many different 'Links' so nintendo has changed the character around. They simply look the same, but they are not all the same person. As for the character changing completely, I dont like the sound of it that much, but maybe it could work for a kind of 'side game'. However I would not like such a big change to impose itself on the most prominent future games of the series.

Same, being Zelda for a bit actually seems like a partially good idea for a game, and I wouldn't mind either, but honestly, no matter what, if its a Zelda game, its Link. I mean, how could you get boring to our badass green clothed friend here? And also, his graphics and his techniques change in every game, and its always a different one in the "time-line theory".

The main character is Link and always should be. But nobody can say that they don't change the main character, in all Zelda games (Excluding Oot and MM) Link is a different Link. You what I mean? Each Link is not only a descendant of an earlier Link, but each is also subtly different. The same with Zelda.

I hope Zelda doesn't pull a MGS2. You think you are gonna play Snake the whole game, then you wind up playing Raiden. I am kinda aginst playing someone other than Link. But if Nintendo does it, I wouldn't care.

It could go either way, people could either really like the idea or really hate the idea. Personally, it would make it a unique gameplaying experience by the fact that by controlling another character(must be a main character though) you get to use a unique arsenal of weapons or attacks that could change how you would approach certain situations in a game.

Srry.......... If a zelda game does'nt feature Link in it as the main character it just would't be Zelda, they could put a secondary character that you have to play with in a short part of the game but never as the main character. Trust me

it happened once, in the philips's CD-i, ZELDA ADVENTURE, that game was a joke, philips really killed Zelda whit that
