Modern Zelda

This has probably been thought up a million times but wot do u think about a zelda game that is slightly modern. Nothing too modern sumthing like a flintlock pistol or good old rifle. Hmmm do u thinkk it would destroy zelda or not.

Re: Modern Zelda

Nah. it wouldn't destroy Zelda - it would just be one of them Zelda muck-ups when they take a risk and it doesn't work. You'd get a lot of people at this forums going WAT THE F***, so they might lose some veterans but they'd probably get a lot more of the types of games who like to blow up and murder innocent lives. I'd play it. But it wouldn't be traditional Zelda. The gun probably would not appear again in any other games - was it in 4 swords that you could get the upgrade to shoot arrows rapidly? That was really fun. arrows machine gun style. I'd accept one modernized Zelda game but no more.

Re: Modern Zelda

I think he means a slightly more modern Zelda, but before guns where invented. More renasounce (I can't spell right now), less Medival.

Re: Modern Zelda

That would be something new. Just think about it: Usually RPG are medieval, but think about Earthbound.

Re: Modern Zelda

I think it would be cool. Giving a more 'western' feel to the game (like certain parts of TP suggest), could work very well. The potential for new weapons alone could give the series a new outlook.

I'd let your enemys have crossbows, other than that I wouldn't to get any more advanced. You can't beat the old sword and shield combo, classic.

Re: Modern Zelda

nah, cool idea but Zelda is fantasy, we dont need another 007. guns would ruin the whole sword component to the story

Re: Modern Zelda

Yeah. Olden day guns the ones which take really long That would be awesome. And everyone wears blazer style clothes with white tights, and they grow long hair and tie it back. And it should be that Link comes from a distant area and is not used to that culture and yeah. But the new culture takes place in the centre of Hyrule.

Re: Modern Zelda

It could work, at least it's original. There's not much difference between ye olde (I had to spell it like that.. sorry) pistol and a bow, and as long as nothing too dramatic and strange was implemented it could be fun and still very Zelda-like.

Re: Modern Zelda

I think it could be done to a limited extent; old rifles were took a long time to reload, and thus were less versatile than traditional weapons... if this was taken into account in a Zelda game, the sword could be just as effective.

One thing I think would really fit the Zelda universe; trains. Steam-powered trains, with tracks running through the fields. Really catches that feeling of a big world, a frontier to explore, things to discover.

Re: Modern Zelda

Well, as long as they don't have Link visit hookers when he visited towns.

I think it would work IF they brought it to a certain extent. Timeline-wise, it probably wouldn't work at all, thus, making more people think of a split. So as a person discussing the timeline, I'd like Nintendo to say its not in a timeline.

Having a few trains, houses, and maybe dynamite would work. I don't want machine guns or have Ganondorf going around killing people. It may work, but it'd still need magic, thats a big part of Zelda.

Re: Modern Zelda

Of course. Certainly, technology shouldn't take center stage in something like Zelda; it's an alternative, in my mind.

As for the trains... I'd think the frontier would have to be comparable in size to the Great Sea of WW for it to capture the illusion. WW did a great job of creating that feeling of exploration... it was just too spaced out. I think that such a large frontier would do nicely, and trains would help create atmosphere, if nothing else. (Obviously, if trains were added, they would serve for more than just scenery)

as fun as that would be im inclined to agree. all though one oculd argue there were just as many hookers in medieval times, they seemed to be more rampant in more modern times, this is a road LOZ does not need to go down.

well gun powder came to europe in around 1500 or so (but has been dated earlier, the year 1216) , so setting a LOZ game in this period would be ok. its still fairly medieval, so you can still have magic and you can have the odd gun or two.

but personally i prefer the medieval fantasy LOZ

Re: Modern Zelda

Well, there are cannons in TP, so in that respect... However, I can't quite imagine Link with an actual gun in his hands. I don't know, I'm sceptical.

That excuse is just crap.

The only way you can run out of storyline for anything, is if you dont have the imagination. GUNS SHOULD NEVER BE PUT INTO ZELDA. only one way I will accept guns in zelda, is if it is just in the background in a shop, or on some wall or a decoration like that.

Otherwise, I will refuse to play that game or refuse to use the item.

Now i can accept trains, however it would have to look like something from the Zelda universe, not something that came from the real world.

The Zelda games are fine as it is. No need for guns and such.
