What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

Using a guide books can be both good and bad. It can show you many secrets you would normaly over look andhelp you get through a dreaded puzzle ina dungeon you have been working on for a long time. However, it takes away the sense of achievment that you get when you find a secret on your own or finally get through a dungeon. So are you going to use a guide book? I still haven't decided yet but I will probably get one just for the collectors sake of it.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I'll probably get one and use it how I use guides for all the other games. I'll try something a few times and if I get really stuck or something, then I'll look up what I'm supposed to do, which I find to be really helpful, but you do get a better sense of achievement and whatnot when you manage it without, but meh, sometimes I just need help.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I would never use it for the first time around, i sneaked a little peak at the MM Guide to figure out a certain thing i couldnt get passed, always regreted it after. So this time around i will not be using it at all the first time, the second however i may take a look just to learn some new things.

I'm going to get the Guide, but only use it when I need to. Anyone notice that when you actually use the guide because your stuck on one little thing, and it turns out it was SO SIMPLE?! I hate that.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I got mine when I preordered my game, but I got it mainly for my second playthrough just to make sure I didn't miss anything. Plus, so much art in the book, between graphics, drawings and everything else, that and I just need to own everything for every Zelda game haha, so I had to get it. But as many will say, mainly for the second playthrough, I will probably not even touch it until then. If you're wondering why I got it at the launch rather than waiting, it's cause I had the money to haha, and I knew I wouldn't have it later on, aka seven days. And I was right, I'm dirt poor haha.

I'll buy one only if I need it, as long as there's no charting for heart pieces or anything, I'll probably do fine without.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I would only take a gander (after beating the game first) at the guide at say, a local gamestore, however, I would never buy a guide, such items bring back the notion of TP being a finite experience.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I will get one, but as with others, I will only use it when I get stuck on a part, and even then, its only going to be if I get stuck somewhere for a couple hours, if I can't figure it out after a couple hours, then I am not going to on my own, so then its no harm in getting a little help I think...

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I'll defiantly be getting it for the artwork and detailed maps of areas to look at (I’ll probably get it for nostalgia as well). So I'll get it (or actually read it) after my second or third run-through; I want to figure everything out on my own though.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I'm buying the collector's edition of the game guide. This is because I really just like to have it as a reference when I can't figure out all the heart pieces and such. Of course I won't be using this the first time around and try to do everything myself. But the second time will be more for "completion." (Yeah i'll try it the first time but I can never seem to get the last freakin' heart piece.)

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

Guides are a waste of money. If I get stuck, I'll look for a walkthrough on Gamefaqs, but if they don't have one there, I'm screwed. heh, sometimes I don't really think things through.

Yeah, i agree. If i get stuck for a long time then i cant see the harm in using a guide, but i completed Ocarina Of Time and The Wind Waker without any help, so it depends on the game i guess.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I'll try not to use a strategy guide or GameFAQs walkthrough unless I am terribly stumped after 30+ minutes trying to figure things out. Another thing that I would use a strategy guide for is finding heart pieces & any other miscellaneous items such as gold skulltullas. (I know they're from OoT, I'm using them as an example.) But I'll also stare at the artwork in it.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I might use a guide the second time around to get any items or heart pieces that i might have missed when i played the game and completed it the first time around. Thats all i use a guide for really.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

I have no use for a guide. I'll play through it a few times then after a few months there will be online walkthroughs all over the net and I can use one to find things I've missed.

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

Well, I used a walkthrough the first time I played Ocarina of Time, and it didn't ruin the experience for me. But now that I'm older I have a feeling I can figure out the puzzles for myself

Re: What is your take on using a guide book for TP?

Figuring out the puzzles isn't the problem for me, the problem I have is finding those great extra items that can be found in side quests, I didn't even know what the gilded sword was until my third playthrough when I got the strategy guide. So yes I'll get one and probably use it the first time as well because as I see it, not only do I get the good artwork, but it also helps me get up to snuff so to speak.
