Zelda, Innocence lost
Zelda is like a lot of stories, in that there are dark moments, yet this is always kept in check by more happy moments. Same in books like Lord of the Rings, or movies like Pirates of the Carribean and Star Wars. There is alway comic relief or innocence of some kind. In the trailers I've seen so far of TP I've only seen darkness and despair, do you think that this Zelda will lose it's innocence? Will it mature, those who have read Harry Potter up to the Half-Blood prince will know what I mean, and if it does, will it be for the better?

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
I think the maturity is going to be good for the experts....those who have been playing zelda....kinda waiting for it to grow up with them.
TP was made with The Wolf, because its a transition/replacement to kid link...obviously not a kid...but the idea of a static character makes the game less interesting so i think its all for the better...but it takes baby steps |

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
Actually, there are many happy (peacefull, serene, whatever) moments in TP. We´re going to see a good contrast in that sense.
We´ve seen that in the trailers. In the 2005 one, when the gloomy music finishes and the zelda´s lullaby starts, the contrast is noticed. And even in the latest trailer, in that every scene in Ordon village, the forest where Link rides the horse slowly, the river scene, among others. But talking about Zelda´s innocence, if you talk about darker themes and more realistic events and plots, then yes, TP is more mature. And we needed that, for at least one Zelda game (wich is the greates one of them...).

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
I really hope that Zelda's innocence isn't totally lost, because subtle humor has always been an integral part of the experience. Zelda as I see it is not supposed to be realistic, but in fact surrealistic... there is something bizarre and quirky that underlies the story and characters that has always been the most compelling part of the experience for me.

But, as with every Zelda game, in a surrealistic manner.

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
i just hope that this game is able to retain that eerily bizzare atmosphere that was present in the N64 installations. it would be tragic to see this replaced simply by some meaty fantasy story. not saying that i wouldn't like to see a more developped story, but that an inclusion of one should not be something that replaces the atmospheric presentation i've come to love.

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
I felt that way when I played OoT for the first time. After seeing how Ganon locked up the Gorons and tried to feed them to a dragon, I really wanted to mess him up! I think having characters/stories worth caring about is essential.

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
i think that the change to a darker zelda is for the better. i think they were headed that way but took a half step with ww if only due to its cartoonish nature and bright colors. you mentioned lotr as being happy but i think that it is darker than zelda will be anytime in the near future, especially the 3rd lotr. i wouldnt mind seeing some happier moments and comic relief in the first half of the game but by the final 3rd of the game it'll hopefully be melancholy and dark.

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
Hmm. Something I've always loved about Zelda is that it's an escape. Some people escape our own world full of death and hatred to play video game full of death and hatred. But this is not the case with Zelda. Zelda is a game that you know will end up okay, sure, there are dark moments, but good always triumphs. If TP is indeed as it seems then this may not be the case, maybe good won't triumph, somthing I've considered is Link may not even be "good". Link turns into a wolf, an animal that is characterized as being strong-willed, cunning, and powerful. Yet, in other cases they could be described as evil, destructive, unrelenting beasts, capable of nothing but bringing death. Maybe Link himself is changing from that little "fairy" boy into a murderer. But what do I know? Maybe this Zelda could be nothing but butterfly kisses.

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
Losing its innocence... Not really. I think Zelda is just sort of... temporarily setting it aside(still some there). We got plenty of innocence from TWW. Also, theres always some innocent (for lack of a better word) times in every Zelda (to the best of my knowledge).

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
There will be a loss of innocence...it has been very clear from the begining of development. But part of what Zelda is is a balance between those happy, sunny, escapist moments and the darker, more troubling and yes, "mature" themes that seem to be very strong in TP.
I'm looking forward to it. |

Re: Zelda, Innocence lost
Thats not really a good example of a good developed game. I'd say something along the lines of Tales of Symphonia will be good. I heard these three times as much text in TP than TWW, that has to mean something...
