TP Wii looks... clunky

This is just a speculation (I'm too lazy to post the links) but from what I saw with people playing Zelda TP on the Wii, the sword combat looked clunky and unnatural. I saw the way they slashed, and it didn't look comfortable, and to do the combos we all no in Zelda, like the stab, stab, stab thrust (best example is TWW on third stab you do a bit of a twirl almost) you'd need to move the Wiimote only slightly rather than the full motion, to be able to do this.

Is this just me or has anyone else noticed this?

(If this should be in spoilers, sorry but we all kinda know that the wiimote's motion sensor is gonna be used for sword combat)

And when I played Super Mario 64 for the first time, I didn't know how to hold the controller.

After I warmed up to the 64 controller, it became perfectly natural.

Re: TP Wii looks... clunky

Well, you never played a videogame with a control before, so if you are planing o get the Wii, then I think the Wii-mote will feel no-doubt unnatural. Which is why I'm going to practice on Wii-Sports before I go Zelda.

The people who played were not experts, they were just learning, and thus, bad controler skills. I haven't heard from any reveiws that Link's control was unnatural.

Re: TP Wii looks... clunky

You have to remember that almost all of the people they show playing TPWii are people who are using the Wiimote for the first time. Now, adjusting to any new set of controls takes a bit of time. Adjusting to a brand new controller takes even more time. Adjusting to something as untraditional as the Wiimote takes far more time.

And the majority of previews for it speak positively of the sword controls. There really haven't been many at all that outright say they're bad, the rest put in a good word for them.

EDIT-

And just like that, because I posted two seconds after him, my reply is carbon copy of HG's

Ok, seems logical enough.

The only one who determines if the controls are right or not is yourself. I depends on the judgement of every person. As for me, it looks promising. As I haven´t played it, I can´t say more. The same for you.

You took the words from my mouth.

I hope he posts something tonight... though I doubt that will happen. He's probibly tired... either that or extremely eager to tell us about it.

Good old Matt. hehe

Re: TP Wii looks... clunky

According to all the impressions I've read (including old Matt's) the controls are not an issue at all. You get used to it pretty quick and a lot of people seem to like it better.

And hey, I see there's another person from BC here ^

I live in Surrey.

So far it's promising.

Did you read ANY of the impressions? Every single impression I have read tonight said that the controls were very well implemented and going to the GC version would be taking a step back. You need to read some of the impressions.

Re: TP Wii looks... clunky

I read a lot of Matt's impressions, and now it made think that getting the GC would be a mistake. I definetely made me feel great that the game will be big like it's expected to be. Now I'm convince that I should get the Wii next year.

I'm trusting that the controls will be good. I'm sure it'll be easy enough to get used to.

Re: TP Wii looks... clunky

In the old demo, the wiimote was only used for certain actions, not to control the swordplay like say, Red Steel(or how people originally thouht Red Steel would work).

Has this changed? This prospect excites me greatly. I was going to get Dragon Quest Swords just for a "real" swordy game. If Zelda does this I have no reason and I can save money. I don't need to go out busking in the cold again! VICTORY!

Well, he did say that nothing in particular was wrong with the Cube version, so I'll be getting that one. He still hasn't changed my opinion on the Wii version.

Okay, first of all, the people who DO play it say it looks great. Cmon, just cuz it looks different doesn't mean it'll suck.

You can turn off the Wiimote sword slash, and make it so you just have to press 'A'.

So they did add "Proper"(insofar as Zelda can handle it) swordslashing (it wasn't in the E3 version). Excellent.

This game is now top of my list of everything.

Same.

Really though, it's not a problem. Your arms will only fall off if your a hardcore Zelda fan and are running around your room into walls and things during the boss battles.
