A step forward

Seeing as this is my first post on the ZU forums, I’d like to start out with some compliments. Great forums! There are a lot of veterans here that seem that really know a lot about the games. I’ve been reading the forums for a while now, and must say that it’s nice to see such in-depth conversations about the little details of past and future games.

One of the topics I’ve been looking at a lot is the upcoming TP game. I kind of feel sorry for the dev team on this one, just because the Zelda fan base is so hard to please. A lot of people have been bickering about new things that Nintendo is planning to implement or what they aren’t planning. While it is the fans job to raise questions and complaints about upcoming releases and how we’d like them to look and play, you have to understand that ultimately Nintendo will do what Nintendo wants.

Some people love the Wiimote and others hate it. Some people want voice acting and some don’t. Some people want more dramatic music choices and some don’t. The Zelda fans seem to be split down the middle, some looking for something new, a game that will progress the Zelda series forward with new features that could rival any Xbox 360 game. Many other Zelda fans want a game that has strong ties to the roots of the Zelda series, and wish for little change (after all, the older games were great).

I myself am looking for this upcoming release to be a mix of both ideas. I want a game that plays like older titles, yet adds something new to the series. I’m sure the game will be similar to the other 3-D games, in regards to game play, puzzles, and dungeon design. What the new game will add is more realism in graphic style, and a fun new way to play courtesy of the Wiimote.

I’m looking forward to using the Wiimote, especially in any new minigames they might add. The Zelda games (for me) have always been a fun game t play. Sure there is a serious storyline, but I would not call the games “serious” at all. Things like puzzles, minigames, fishing, and the little bits of comedy from NPCs make this game fun to me. It is nice to take a break from the storyline, say in between dungeons, to play a game such as the archery range or bomchu bowling alley, and I think the Wiimote is a step in the right direction to improve these and other aspects of the game.

I’m sure this post might seem like a bit of a ramble, but I guess I’ll end it with a message.

View this upcoming game as a step forward while looking back. It SHOULD show a message of progress, and it SHOULD have ties to older games.

Re: A step forward

You express exactly what I hope will come from Twilight Princess. I want freshness, but I don't want a series overhaul.

In fact, what I've stated is what I expect. Watching gameplay videos does suggest that the series will still be firmly rooted in the Zelda formula for the most part, but we also see things like wolf gameplay and use of the new controller that promise to make some great new additions to the game. Not to mention the incredible graphics and orchestrated soundtrack.

I honestly dont think that they should have added the wiimote control or made it for the wii. Since it was ment to be for the GCN it should have stayed that way. But since it has I cant complain because it was a good idea.

I understand where you are coming from, and I think Nintendo does as well. The game is still for the GCN as intended, and you can't blame them for making a Wii version that would both enhance the game (well, for some people) using new technology and also help them sell more Wiis. I mean seriously, you realize how much better the Wii looks when you know you're getting a new Zelda with it?

Exactly, and it's going to be a huge selling point for the console... so long as it doesn't suck. I'm pretty sure Nintendo is smart enough to realize that consumers aren't going to embrace a game with broken controls whether it's Zelda or not, so I'm having faith that they're doing 'er right.

Re: A step forward

Many good points are presented here.

And, Nintendo obviously knows what its doing. As Aquamentas said, the Wii does look better when you get a copy of a Zelda game with it. It makes for a better package, so the consumers feel like they're getting more for their money, and ultimately, that will be what sells the Wiis.
