Question Zelda rpg

I think LoZ would be really badass as a realtime combat rpg. A bunch of stats, more extensive invetories and a free-form fighting system would really enhance the game expriance.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

For some chance, have you played Adventure of Link?

Re: Zelda rpg

That might work, but I don't think it would be a main console game. Maybe a portable, 3D RPG, but not like Adventure of Link.

Re: Zelda rpg

They tried the levels and experience point thing with AoL. Course, they also took away the secondary weapons. The sword beams and fireball spell didn't work on most enemies. In RPGs, you use customization, and Zelda isn't really that type of game.

i agree. Zelda wasn't made to be an rpg. i love Kingdom Hearts, and that rpg is amazing, but that dosen't mean Zelda would be better as an rpg.

Re: Zelda rpg

It'd be interesting tho. I mean, I like the RPG games and I would love to see some good Zelda RPG. I just don't think it should be a part of the main series. Maybe like a sidequest or a spin-off. But please, oh God, no Tingle.

Re: Zelda rpg

Zelda as a MMORPG could be pulled off.

But I would rather it be a "set-aside from the series" sort of game that simply incorporates some of the legends, places, races, and concepts, without actually being an integral part of the Zelda mythos.

Yes, I think a Zelda MMO would be awesome. Think about it, a MMO about the Great War before OOT! You could choose your race, customize them, and go out and fight other people. I think that would be awesome.

I'd go for that. An RPG with Zelda races that has no part in the the timeline.

It isn't Zelda anymore without Tingle! He's one of my top five characters: Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Tingle, and Malon.

Re: Zelda rpg

Didn't they create a Zelda MMORPG kinda thing where "if you pay" you can have your own guy? I remember playing it for free, you could fish or dig, you can create your own house and stuff, but none of that unless you payed. You could also go and fight stuff I'm pretty sure, and they had the LTTP graphics, except your guy did look like ALTTP Link. So, really, you could only play it if you payed, unless you want to constantly remake your character.

I cant remember the name though.

All Zelda have a free-form fighting system. All of the combat is done in real-time meaning it's free-form. When you want to swing your sword, you press the button and swing your sword. When you want to shoot your bow, you take the bow out and shoot it. Turn-based RPG's are not free-form.

I agree that, if a Zelda RPG was ever made, it shouldn't be a turn-based RPG, but an RPG in the same vein as Elder Scrolls. That would allow for all the things that made Zelda great, only with stats and stuff.

Yea that would be cool because I think Oblvion is a great game. I would only want an RPG Zelda if it is like a side game like some people have already stated.

Re: Zelda rpg

Zelda's always been an RPG. At least, it's not an Action/Adventure. In the games you play the role as Link. There are upgrades, an evolution system, NPCs, an Overworld, subscreens, etc. And the words from the big man himself:

Quote:
Shigeru Miyamoto: Our game should not be paralleling that movie very closely, no. That's not our intention. In regard to the animals in the game, it's an RPG and the more of those natural elements -- in this case represented by the wolf and the haw -- the more we expand the realm of the RPG and give ourselves room to grow and fill into. We thought that by adding these animals it would help us create a larger and more realistic world.

Just because the games doesn't look like traditional RPGs doesn't mean it's not. It's like saying Steven Erikson's The Malazan Book of the Fallen saga isn't a true fantasy saga because it doesn't have Elves, dwarves, faeries or any of that.

Re: Zelda rpg

I wouldn#t mind a Zelda RPG in the style of Tales of Symphonia or Star Ocean.........and having a cast of characters to play as besides Link. It would be really fun to play as say, Ruto, Saria or Nabooru, fighting alongside Link.

That would kind of stray a lot from the typical Zelda formula, even more then the 4 swords.

You thrust the man that said that the original Zelda happened between OOT and ALTTP?

Re: Zelda rpg

I think that there are other games to fill this slot, and if Nintendo were to make one they shouldn't just slap the Zelda franchise on there. After all, Zelda is much more about puzzles than combat, isn't it?
