BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/726/726748p1.html
This comes from an interview in Nintendo Dream. Yup, so Miyamoto and the gang have decided to use motion controlling for the sword, like many of us were suspecting before E3 rolled around. When asked about the tiredness factor, Shiggo says "Upon actually playing it, it's more interesting this way". The B button, formerly controlling the sword's swing, will now be used for the bow. Interesting. I do think it is pretty cool that this feature has been chucked in, but I'm also hoping this can also be changed to accomodate for the longer play times. Yet another distinguishing factor between the GCN and Wii versions! YAY! |

Well, I guess TP might become less of a simple GCN port- Thank you Nintendo!!

The game is still coming to GCN, you just won't be able to use the Wii controls on the GCN version, or have a widescreen mode. |

Relax overkill, it's still coming out on GCN. Although it was an interesting comment, Miyamoto saying he'd get the Wii version. Of course Miyamoto has to say that because he wants people to buy a Wii though.
But it's true, with all the focus being on the Wii functionality lately, it's getting harder and harder to call this a 'Gamecube project'.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
I'm kind of iffy about this news. It scares me a bit that, instead of reassuring us that swinging would be perfectly fine, that players wouldn't have to worry about a weakness in the system, Miyamoto only says, "It's more interesting this way." Then again, I don't know Japanese, so I can't read the whole Nintendo Dream article, and as such, I might be missing some vital info.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
pretty dope, only problem i see with it is that after a while it might tire the player out, like they said at last e3, but on the other hands it is pretty realistic, swinging the swords tru a swing of the wii-mote. we'll just see how it all works out.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
It's always seemed to me that the translation for the japanese equivilent to "interesting" is loose. It's supposed to come off as more posative than it does.
This news doesn't surprise me, nor does it get me excited. As long as it's for the better experience, I'm fine; I'm more interested in the whole "tip of the nail" statement than anything else. This game in design is going to be phenomenal, and I'm more excited for the bulk of the game than than for its control scheme. The control scheme could make or break this game, but I'm not going to make any pre-judgements... I'll have to play it first. Basically, I don't care what the control scheme is like as long as it's not a hinderance. Here's to hoping that Miyamoto isn't just slapping these controls on for the sake of it.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
Doubtless as with other Wii controlled games, smaller motions Will still get the job done, eliminating the possibility of players getting tired out.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
Hmm, but in what way will it be implemented? Will you actually decide yourself how you swing the sword, or will you be forced to stick with horizontal, vertical, stab etc. movements?
Either way, I'm still getting the gamecube version, however, this does give me more reason to eventually buy the Wii version as well.

Hm. That's interesting. I just wonder how well it actually plays. Red Steel's sword fighting comes to mind. But it is pretty cool of a thing to throw in.
I don't know if this is better or worse than how it was before though. It'll sure be an interesting experiance when I first fire up TP and my Wii though, that's for sure.

I hope its the first; free-based swordplay. Sure, i could play with forced movements but the free-based sounds WAY better and would add extra depth to the gameplay.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
This is only a good thing if the motion control is freebase and you can do whatever you want with the sword (which would actually be pretty awesome) and if you can opt to turn it off. That could get very tireing.

Re: BREAKING - TP Wii now uses motion controls for sword.
I see I was beaten to the punch. I've got mixed feelings on this, If they let you choose the play style then I'll be fine with it. However, if you have to swing the controller then it might not be so great. It will in part depend on if your actions with the controller are mirrored on the screen (You swing up and down, Link also does so, for example.), or if you just swing it and he goes through his traditional moves.
On the definite plus side, since the 'B' button is freed up several other commands have been moved to it, making shooting the arrows that much easier. Since many people seemed to have a problem with that part it sounds like a good move.

^ That's what also caught my eye instantly. The arrow shooting seemed to be the biggest problem from the E3 demo, so this is really good news.
As for the motion-controls, I'm cool with it, in fact, it sounds like it could be a lot of fun. It would be nice, though, if Nintendo allows players to use them or not. We'll just have to wait another couple months before Nintendo tells us anything important.
