Question TP Time

This isn't very important but...how fast should time go by in TP? I think it should go as fast as it did when you played Inverted Song of Time in MM. And definitly not as fast as time goes by in OoT. Oh, and when in houses, dungeons, and towns etc, time should not stop. What do you think?

Re: TP Time

to tell you the truth, time isn't that important to me... as long as skull baddies don't pop out of the ground when night comes.

Re: TP Time

I forgot about that. I hope that day and night go by whether you're in town or not. I also want it to go as fast as it did in Wind Waker... or like you said, when You played the inverted Song of Time.

Re: TP Time

It seemed to me that the days/nights lasted too long on WW but they were really short in OoT. Somewhere in between would be nice.

Re: TP Time

I think time should go just slightly slower than it did in MM when you played the inverted Song of Time. And I don't think time should stop when in towns, houses, dungeons, etc.

I'd actually like to see a dungeon based on night and day. Like when it's night the puzzles are different than in the day. I think that'd be awesome.

Re: TP Time

^ Ditto with Zora lord. Real time would probably be too slow, but the speed of the day in games like ocarina of time and wind waker were just ridiculously fast. And yes, time shouldn't stop when you're inside towns and dungeons either.

The quick passage of time in both of those games were to empasize the distance it takes to go from place to place. It worked well for those games, but like Hungry Gamer said - something more like MM would be better (minus the time travel of course).

Re: TP Time

The time will still stop when in dungeons, houses, etc. Yes, yes, it would be very realistic, but it wouldn´t be a good design. Majora´s Mask had that design because almost everything involved the passage of time, but i don´t think it will be the same for TP.

Of course, maybe i´m just wrong. Maybe TP does involve time a lot, but i don´t think so, though. I agree with you Strain, i hope that the time between day and night is much longer than in OOT and WW because of the distance between places, wich i also hope is big.

WW seemed big like that, but you could sail very fast from place to place, in my opinion. I would love to strive to survive in the dark and long nights with stalfos and all, and then finally watch the sun rising. *sight*... I would also like that the time between me and TP wouldn´t be that long.

Are you kidding me? What if a certain event was dependent on the time of day? Do you want to wait around for up to (let's see 12 would be normal, but you said inverted, which I believe would make it 18 if not 24) 18 minutes just for the sake of realism?

If events aren't dependent on the time of day, then you've reduced the day/night mechanic to a mere cosmetic feature.

The obvious solution is to introduce an item that can manipulate the time of day, but, unless such an item were available from the begininng, there would be problems.

A day that is similar in length to Wind Waker, if not a little longer, is fine. And time should be frozen in towns and dungeons. Again, I (and thankfully the developers) am willing to sacrifice realism for good design.

Same thing here, I've always had the idea of a temple where you'd have to use your mirrorshield, but some switches would only activate with sunlight, and others with moonlight. To bad chances that any company would listen to a random fan. I've hear many other good ideas as well that will probably never be used, I recall someone that said to have blocks with ropes arround it, those would be able to be pulled, ones that didn't have a rope would only be able to pulled. Whoevers idea that was, it was a great one =)

As for actually staying on topic, the speed of MM when you play the inverted song of time seems good to me actually, though it could be a bit faster. Or let's say a day is equal to the time that it takes to travel the whole map from north to south, meaning you leave at noon monday from South, and arrive at noon tuesday to the top north.

If they could find a way to make that work without interfering with the game mechanics, that would be truly awesome.

Re: TP Time

I don't know about you guys, but in last years E3 demo, i noticed something in the horse battle. The transition between the heavy clouds and rain to the perfect weather and clear skies was really quick, like...5 seconds. To me I'd say that that was not very realistic. But it could just be the demo...
Anyway, about the time itself. Hm. I'd say the time of day in windwaker would suffice, perhaps a few minutes longer. Personally, the real time would really suck. Like in the menu of windwaker. The background depended on what time of day it was. Besides, I get home at 5:00 and play for only 2 hours a day. That would mean i would not get to play in the clear skies and beautiful days, and instead, play the in dark night.

Re: TP Time

If I remember correctly I though I once heard that TP's time of day was going to be controled by the Gamecube and wii's Time and Date settings. Though that would just be anoying and mostly stupied because how would you be able to play at night. Unlike Link we humans need sleep lol.

Re: TP Time

Maybe there's still a possibility for a happy medium. What if time didn't stop in towns or dungeons, but instead significantly slowed down? That way, days and nights won't have to be torturously long out on the fields, yet you'll still have time to complete town errands that may depend on the time of day.

Re: TP Time

I´m SURE that it will be NOT based in Real-Life time. Absolutely, and that´s it, case closed.

I remember that in the fishing demo, the time went very slowly. It three minutes long, and it only goes from like 4pm (based on the sun´s height) to the sunset, at 6pm. I hope it´ll be like this, but not longer. I adds some to the realism, and (i think) may have you take more on account if ti´s day or night. In past Zeldas, the day and night cycle were so fast that i didn´t care what time is it (except for MM, duh).

Re: TP Time

yes, 5 minuts to one earth hour is way too long, that would mean that a day would practically last 2 hours, thats way too long. Imagine waiting around for an hour and a half just to sneak into hyrule castle.. yeah.

I would expect an entire day to last around 15 minuts, 7.5 for the sun and another 7.5 for the moon. And I would hope seasons to at first be controlled by the in game clock (everyones game would be different, and there would be 1 to 3 special seasonal quests for each season) And there would be some secret area in which link could actually control the seaons, like a small sun dial in a cave or something.
