Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

I was over at IGN and stumbled upon this:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/725/725962p1.html

So there it's finally been CONFIRMED. No using the GCN controller with the Wii version of the game. The GCN version will be playable on the Wii using the GCN controller, and the Wii version will only be playable with the Wii-mote.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

So I see. A bit of a downside with getting the Wii version, but I hope you'll be able to use that other controler with the game so you don't have to be pointing the whole time.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

I had to read through that article a few times when I first saw it to fully understand it. :embrsd:

I'm still getting the Wii version even though it's a risk.

George Harrison specifically said that in order to play the Wii version you need the wii-mote. Whoever is still holding on to hope that another form of controller will be compatible i applaud you. But at the same time i'm sad to say get over it. If you want to play the wii version, then you will HAVE to use the wii-mote and nothing else, plain and simple.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

The only way this is not a really bad thing is if they offer both versions of the game in a twin-pack for less than it would cost to buy them both.

Thats actually a very good idea and maybe Nintendo will have a twin-pack as a pre-order bonus. I don't see them always offering a twin-pack, but that would be a great thing to do for the launch.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

This is a bad thing? Wasn't the whole point of TP Wii so you could play it with the Wii controller?

I can still se why people might be upset, but it's not that big of a deal or a shock to me.

I didn't know anyone thought you could play TP Wii with the GC controller...o_0. Seems pretty obvious that you play TP Wii with the Wii controller...and...TP GC with the GC controller. It makes sense. Glad that I never thought to believe TP Wii could play with the GC controller...otherwise I'd be disappointed too...heh heh.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

Hopefully, the Wii Cradle-Contoller will allow you to play the Wii version of Twilight Princess without any problems.
Using the Wii-mote is fine, but I don't realistically see myself waving my arms around in frot of the TV a good chuck of hours everyday.
There has to be an alternative.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

No big deal in my opinion, but...

Do we really need the Wii-mote to play the game? Can't we just play through the whole game with that SNES-like controller?

I have a real big problem with the battery issue for the Wii-mote, and I thought I could ignore the Wii-mote and just use the SNES-like controller.

In fact, I thought I could do that with most games for the Wii...

I voted happy because there was no "No opinion" option. This really isn't a surprise at all. Know how the controls are mapped just gives it away that you can't use the GCN controller on it.

If it bothers a person that much, then they ought to just go and buy the GC version. Problem solved!

If you read some posts around these forums, then you would have realized that some people though that the Gamecube controller might be compatible with the Wii version of TP.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

Why would you think that? Nintendo has already shown that the Wii version will have capabilities that require the Wiimote. Wouldn't that mean you need the Wiimote?

I didn't think that, but some people were hoping that using the GCN controller with the Wii version would be possible.

But heres some good news...George Harrison, once again, reiterated the fact that TP is still launching for both the GCN and the Wii on the same day that the Wii launches. This pretty much rules out any possibility of a delay which is great. He also said that right now the development team is spending a lot of time ironing out bugs and making sure everything works. He also said they are spending a lot of time translating the japanese text to english.

Sorry, TP1, I didn't mean to direct that question towards you. That is some good news. No mistranslations, please.

No problem Blind Swordsman. And I agree lol, please no mistranslation Nintendo. They've had plenty of time to translate this game so I expect everything to be perfect.

I assume thats what you meant also Swordsman, when you said no mistranslations?

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

It does seem a little bit annoying that the the GCN controller functionality has been taken out of the Wii version. I can see the Wii controls being pretty fun, especially for the fishing aspect... but when I want to play my Zelda games for hours on end like I always do, maybe it would get a bit tiresome. Plus battery life... 2 AA batteries, wtf?

To think the guys behind DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 are adding GCN controller support, but Nintendo isn't, tsk tsk tsk.

Anyways, I'm getting both versions. It just means that I'll have to play through both versions seperately, unfortunately. You know, maybe if they just had an option to disable the motion sensing, that might be good enough. I'm sure the Wiimote has enough buttons to handle all the actions.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

Well, Beane, I see what you mean about maybe taking out motion control optionally to keep from getting tired. However, I would imagine that once you get used to the play style you really can play with the Wiimote with very little real movement. Simple flicks of the wrist should do the trick just fine.

But I don't even see why people 1. care, and 2. didn't already see it coming. Really, it's not a big deal at all.

Re: Wii TP not compatible with GCN controller

I don't intend to play TP with the Gamecube controller at all, so this is of no concern to me. However, I feel for those fans that want to play both versions, and now have to pay a hundred bucks for what is essentially the same game.

On the topic of the Wii controls, they're really nothing that you have to be dancing around like an idiot for; aim with the remote for the boomerang, bow and clawshot, spin the nunchuk for the spin attack, thrust with the nunchuk for a shield-bash or to throw objects, a basic flick with the remote to cast the fishing line, and whatever else I may be forgetting. Thus far, everything we've been shown can easily be done while slumping into a chair once you get a feel for them. If you have as much control of your wrists as you do your arms, you should have no problem.
