Link vs Balrog?

I know this is an old screenie for Zelda TP, one of the first actually, but I wanted to point out that this boss looks much like LotR's Balrog.

There's no-doubt it's design is based on a balrog. But seriously, that thing looks DULL.

What do you mean by dull. Do you think it looks like an easy boss?

No, what he means is, the design is lacking alot of personality. And honestly, I agree.

However, it's possible that thing won't even make an appearance in the finished game, or, if it does, receive a significant design change.

Honestly, other than the flames, the thing looks nothing like a Balrog. Now wings or anything like that.

You know, that thing is probably an enemy..not a boss.

That dosen't surprise me. Nintendo did, after all, base the Kokiri after Peter Pan (children, guardian fairy, never growing up, etc). What's next, I wonder? You have to face off against Frodo and the Ring? Oh, Lord . . .

Haha yeah but... you can't tell me you wouldn't enjoy turning into a wolf and tearing Frodo into tiny pieces.

Yes it does look dull, but that was in the early stages and the first trailer, so i'm sure they gave it a major make over, and even though it doesn't have wings, it looks like the balrog sorta. They both are made of fire, both have some kind of whip, both are the same size, and I'm pretty sure he has some tusks near his mouth, but it's dark so you can really see it. ohhh, just thought of something, it actually looks more like one of those big cave trolls from Lotr, just on fire, and in the first Lotr the first troll they fight uses a big chain for a whip. So, there are some simalarities there.

i think that it's loosly based on the Balrog but I doubt that it will have the same name.

The only monsters I can think of that actually has the name of an actual non-Zelda are the Lizardmen in Zelda 2 and which eventually evolved into Lisalfos'. Zelda is very careful about it's own genuinity.

Zelda doesnt cheat LotR, or otherwise. This is just a standard for this type of games, if whe gonna play it like this whe can also say that the TP-swine-riding-things are goblins from LotR, or that the great fairy's are like the pinokkio-fairy. I mean, LoTr didnt make that monsters themself too. In this type (i just cant get the name, i think its epic) of game, its just the standard to have some goblins, wizards and fairy's.
The reason why TP reminds so much of LotR is because its that realistic, TP's style isnt originail, its beautifull but not originail. There are thousands of games and movies who look like this, its just a genre. You cant say too that starwars is like star trek, you know?
So if you want to make comparings to LotR, you can go on forever
