Link's Clothing

Don't know if there has already been a topic relating to this, but here's my question:

Would you like Link to be able to change clothes. Like in OOT?

I most definetly think so. After Nintendo said that the game would be quite big (landscape wise) you'd think that there must be a lake/volcano/forest, all relating to colors of clothing.

Re: Link's Clothing

It would be cool, but it's not necessary to good gameplay. In OoT, he changed clothes because each tunic provided Link with a "power" he could only use by wearing that tunic. The Zora tunic allowed him to breathe underwater and the Goron tunic allowed him to withstand heat. You needed these tunics in order to advance further in the game.
So I doubt Nintendo will give the option of Link changing clothes unless you need to have him do so to get past certain points in the game.

Re: Link's Clothing

I think that we know that he can already. He has two costumes- having the clothes on the second quest again (Spoilers minimised) would be a bit cheap, so it seems most likely that he will be able to switch between the two costumes that we have already seen.

Unfortunately, the same amount of evidence (None) goes to say that he loses the farmboy costume before he goes into the twilight.

I don't think that the new clothes will serve the same purpose as in Ocarina of Time. Maybe a special tunic that stops you from shrivelling up & dying from some poison gas in a certain temple, or some form of armour.
If there are costume changes, they certainly won't serve the same purpose. (Having a shirt that let you breathe underwater was silly anyway.)

Re: Link's Clothing

OOT was not the only game with the option of changing tunics. In LA DX, if you complete the color dungeon, you could choose between Blue and Red tunics. Red gave you more power and blue gave you more defense.

Also in ALttP, you get different clothing, but once you got a different tunic, you can't change back.

Re: Link's Clothing

Well, I don't really care if Link has changeable clothes or not. It doesn't make a difference to me. I suppose if I had to choose, I would like for Link to have different outfits that help him out, yes. Like the Red, and Blue Tunics from OOT. And maybe a tuxedo to match ^_^?

All in all - I just want the game to come out -_-.

Re: Link's Clothing

Yes, it'd be cool if Link can choose different clothing and chain plates and whatnot to make an "RPG" feel such as "defense +1" with leather under-clothing

BTW, this thread has been done quite a few times

Re: Link's Clothing

A secret item like Josephs Cloak in Castlevania SOTN that let's you customize the color of your tunic would be quite cool. It would definitely spice up the boring sea of worthless piece of hearts every single quest seems to lead to.

Re: Link's Clothing

I think it would be cool to see Link in some different outfits. As long as they served a purpose like in OoT and are not just for show.

Re: Link's Clothing

Yeah, that's what I was refering to. Having his tunics serve a purpose, not to be just a fashion statement, LOL!

Considering that in the trailers we have seen Link swim, I honestly don't think it'd be too much of a long shot to say that he just MIGHT have different tunics

Unfortunately, even while swimming we've always seen Link wearing green. And on the second trailer, where we apparently see some bits of a fire-themed dungeon, there's no sign of a red, Goron tunic. Honestly, I don't think we're going to see Link wearing different clothes other than the Toaru outfit (which I think it's kind of weird, but that's just me talking...) and the traditional green tunic. Of course, if they decide to add new clothes, I won't mind as long as they actually serve a purpose like you said. If they don't, I'll stick with the familiar green all the time, to easily relate with Link (green has always been my favourite colour!)

Re: Link's Clothing

As long as it isn't the same design in a different colour. Also, tunics aren't the only thing that would fit into the theme. Armour or chain mail as many have mentioned would be good. Especially if there are trade-offs for them, example, chain mail makes you stronger defensively, but decreases your walking speed like the iron boots.

You could have an invisibility cloak (Harry Potter ripoff) that could allow you to go unseen by everyone and everything, yet you are unable to use items or weapons while wearing the cloak.

Just a few ideas.

Re: Link's Clothing

Hopefully they'll at least have a mode like Wind Waker where if you beat the game you get to play the whole game through in the 'cowboy' clothes Link has at the start. They look awesome.
I'd get link to wear any other clothes because personally all that green is getting to me. And I hate that stupid floppy hat, I mean I know it's an icon but...I'm getting so sick of it!

Re: Link's Clothing

Will Link change clothing? I honestly think so. Why? Because I (BGS) translated it from a Spanish Magazine awhile ago. Remember this article from ZU: Spanish Magazine features new screenshots!. I translated the headlines from that article (I started translating the article itself, until I realized someone beat me to it) and one quote said "The battles will return in real time, and they will be very dynamic and amusing. Link will also be able to use a good amount of armor." So there you go. More armor must mean different kind of tunics

-BGS

w00t! I'm glad Link won't have to wear the same thing throughout the game. Different armor and some accessories would be a nice change!

Technicaly an invisibilty cloak appeared in Zelda first (In ALTTP)

As for changing Link's clothing I do think it is quite likely, but I'm sure it will serve a purpose, just like in previous Zelda games. Hopefully it'll be something original, not anything in OOT, or armour.
