Snow Area in TP
Who whould like to see a snow area in Twilight Princess? I think it whould be cool because it's a friggin' blizzard, and I was thinking "this whould be cool for a Zelda area". I was thinking it might be similar to the haunted wastelands, or something. Just a thought. Anyone have any ideas of your own about how this might work?

Re: Snow Area in TP
Well, there was one screenshot of Wolf Link in a snowy area. It looked kinda like a village to me. So, yeah, I bet there's going to be one.

Re: Snow Area in TP
![]() There will be a snow area. Honestly, I think TP will have every major type of landform/element covered and then some. |

Re: Snow Area in TP
The snow in that screenshot looks pretty bad in my opinion. In fact, I think that the screenshot I posted may be one of the worst looking Twilight Princess screenshots in general. First of all, I despise the lack of fur on Wolf Link. The wolf looks like it is made of plastic. Some bushy fur would be much more appealing to me. The tail looks embarassingly bad. In the screenshot, you can easily make out the little polygons. This would maybe acceptable on an NPC or something of that sort, but for such a seemingly large part of the game, it is concerning.
As for the environment, the snow looks completely flat. It looks no different than grass, for example. I think it would be truly awesome for Nintendo to push for realistic, reacting, animated snow, but I'm not sure Gamecube is even capable of such an effect. The same holds true for sand. Imagine if walking on these surfaces actually caused them to react and change shape--that would be incredible. I think we'll see those sort of effects on Revolution. Anyway, that entire screenshot looks bad to me. Still, navigating a snowy reason as a wolf may definitely incite immersion and atmosphere. It looks to be a peaceful, yet lonely journey of a wolf without a pack traveling through the frigid Yukon territory (just got done reading To Build a Fire in English). |

either that, or this is a screenshot from early development in the game. When it was delayed we were given 7 new screenshots, a couple from this village full of people. If you look closely at those village pictures, most of the NPCs don't have any shadows. So most likely it was either early development... or Nintendo's just getting too darn slow ![]()

Re: Snow Area in TP
Yeah, I think so too. And didn't you notice that neither Midna nor the Twilight Realm is in that screenshot. Now, if anything, I believe that's the evidence that it's early in developement. It's most likely from before they programmed/finished Midna and probably also before they made up the Twilight Realm.

Re: Snow Area in TP
I have to say this now: I love snow and Ice environments. They rock in any game, and they especially do in the Zelda games as well. Snowhead mountain was one of my favorite areas to explore in MM, and this area in TP is probably going to be one of my favorites, too.
There was only one island in WW that had ice and snow. Bleh. Oh, well...

Re: Snow Area in TP
Has anyone played Diddy Kong Racing on the N64? In all honesty, the first thing I thought of when I saw that screenshot was the winter themed area they have in that game. It looks like they just took the tree models from that game, toned down the saturation, and slapped 'em in there with some cheesy snow effects.
Now, back on subject. I didn't really like the Haunted Wastelands area in OoT, as I was playing on a tiny fuzzy TV from the 70's at the time, and all I saw was a green blob in a yellow screen. It reminded me too much of the boss gym from pokemon silver/gold/crystal where there's an invisible path you have to find. Eww. I do like snow though, I loved the snowy city (name?) in ToS where everyone's bundled up. Yes, apart from the cold, winter rocks. Go snow-themed TP level. Just don't make me collect silver rupees.

Re: Snow Area in TP
I agree that it does look like that area wasn't quite finished when that shot was taken but i think the fact that there is no twilight and no midna goes further to suggest theat there will be sections where you can play as Link in the normal world and that Midna will not allways be with you. She is supposed to have her own agenda, so them parting ways at some point is hardly surprising. also it makes sense to have some item that allows you to be a wolf in the real world because it is such an important element of the game and the ability to switch forms could create some very interesting puzzles..
the reason i have to back up this theory is that i don't think nintedno would release such a suggestive image if what was in it wasn't important. they only released 6 or 7 at that point so what was in them had to be important and create a bit of a stir to sustain people while the game was delayed. So if you will please sit back and read some thoughts i have on the release of the other pictures at released at the time. The two of the town market type place was an obvious choice really just bacuase the area was impressive, and also the multiyude of people id impressive even though at the time the models were a bit shakey. The pic of Link swimming was very beautifull with all the shiney corals and shells. this could have served 2 purposes that i can think of. 1: to show a bit more of how impressive the visuals were shaping up to be and 2: to suggest that there may be prettier, non hostile water areas, which strongly suggests the presence of the ever popular zoras! the other two pictures i have seem to be pretty straight forward and show some nice lighting effects and dungeon areas as well as a sort of rat like enemy. can't remember if there was another picture at the time, if there was i aint got it. anyone else see anything relevent in them that i've missed?

Re: Snow Area in TP
most screenshots do turn out funny when pasted (take a look at some of the GBA games in the Nintendo power mags..the screens in their look so pixelated and destroyed...) but I'm sure Nintendo will fix it up. On subject, it depends on what nintendo wants to do and what the story is...this whole game revolves around the storyline, so we need to wait and see.

Re: Snow Area in TP
Note: yeh, i assume the picture was from the game in early development but Nintendo has said that they didn't push the game forward for unplanned adjustments, they just said they'd never be able to finish it in the time they said they would - and we shud also note that when Ocarina of Time came out, they released a lot of early development shots for some reason or other.
I also doubt that there will be more utilizable terrains as Shiek was hoping for, though I am quite sure the GC would be capable of it. |

Re: Snow Area in TP
I would love to see a snow/ice area in TP. ive wanted one since the first time i played Legend of Zelda. that screenshot must be only half finished. it is a little blocky and as weve seen the graphics are DEFINITLY not blocky.
