Twilight Princess Petition

Hello ZU members. You may or may not know me, but I have been a dedicated fan of this site for quite some time now. This thread is for a petition I have just created on petitionspot that I urge all of you to sign. This petitions goal is to get Nintendo of America to rename The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for its American release. Now please dont flame me, but I dont like the name. Twilight princess is a name to remeniscent of Barby dolls and other little girl type things. This isnt just my opinion, I understand that many members of ZU share this opinion with me. So inorder to help Nintendo market this great game, please help me by signing this petition. But before you do PLEASE POST YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS THREAD BEFORE SIGNING THE PETITION INORDER TO KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE SO MORE MEMBERS CAN SIGN. Sorry about the all caps, but I had to do it. That's a rather mundane reason to get the name changed. No matter what the name of the game is, as long as it holds to the Zelda we all know and love there is no point. Not until you mentioned the Barbie thing, I never even thought of it like that. Besides, you seem like you are afraid someone is going to make fun of you for buying a game that is dubbed "Twilight Princess."

You do know that companies don't care about internet petitions and that even if you get a million signatures which is not going to happen Nintendo won't change the name of The Twilight Princess right.

You have just wasted twenty minutes of your life by creating that petition and posting it on ZU.

I agree with EE, and personally I think the name sounds cool as far as Zelda subtitles are concerned. The only name change I'd like to see is Nintendo changing "A Link To The Past" back to "Triforce Of The Gods" which sounds much cooler.

This is dumb. Twilight Princess is a great name (hey I like it) IT matches the game (from what I've seen) very well.

Actually by changing the title, Nintendo will increase its sales, and Twilight Princess could make Zelda "cool" again. Yes I dont really care about the title, it doesnt turn me off of the game atr all, but it will do just that to so many other people. Im doing this in the best interest of Nintendo, not to make the game better for myself, but simply to broaden Nintendos fanbase.

Again, I am comfortablr with the name myself, but it isnt a very good name for Nintendo to market this game on. Many people on this very site thought that when this was just a rumor that "Nintendo would never give it such a stupid name". Although we fans of Zelda have grown accustomed to it, new fans wont.

Question: If they don't change it, will you still buy it?

Trust me when I say that this is a fake. I have seen the soposed page from Game Informer that states this information, and it is photo shop done. Also, Twilight princess is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. The word twilight in no way captures the essence of the dark epic medival theme that has encompassed this new game. Also, why would the character of zelda be restated twice in the title. It doesn't make since. It is basically sayin "the legend of zelda: twilight zelda".

Yeah, I don't have much faith in this rumour either. It simply sounds laughable - But hey, better posting a rumour too much, than a rumour to little, eh ?

Twilight Princess? Thats pretty stuipid. Not only is E3 2 days away, thus no information of that importance would be released prematurely, but that is a weal title. Seeing as though the trailers and screenshots show evil and dead things, PRINCESS?

There is no doubt in my mind that this is not the real title. For one thing, it's horribly girly and thus is in complete contrast with the game's style. What a terrible rumour...I wish I had never heard it. In fact, if this rumour is true, I will buy an Xbox 360 and swear off Nintendo forever. To all you weak-minded fools out there that may actually believe this one, think harder! It may hurt you to do so, but try anyway. There is no way Nintendo would make such a stupid mistake like calling a game Twilight Princess. Sounds like a new Barbie doll, for crap's sake. Sorry for the rampage, but I sincerly hate this rumour."

Now if dedicated fans thought about the title like this, then what about new fans? The moment Twilight Princess became the actual title people quickly adopted the idea that it was a good title. I have no doubt in my mind it was fanboyism that did this. What about the non-Zelda fans Nintendo wants to gain?

Twilight Princess is a good name and I hate barbies (even though I AM a girl). I think it has almost nothing to do with barbies... It's like saying princess Zelda is too girly to be in the game.

Just because the title princess is included does not make a game girly by any means, I think you need to stop your macho attitude towards video gaming as accept the fact that you are indeed acting very sexist if you beleive that a name change for twilight princess would increase sales.

Zelda is not only a boy's game. Girl's play it too. And the title, I'm sure, fits the game perfectly, just like all the other Zelda titles. Nintendo knows what they're doing. Don't criticize the work of geniuses.

Twilight

• noun: the diffused light from the sky when the sun is below the horizon but its rays are refracted by the atmosphere of the earth
• noun: a condition of decline following successes
• noun: the time of day immediately following sunset

Princess

• noun: a female member of a royal family other than the queen (especially the daughter of a sovereign)

Now, by using that logic, only the Princess part would make it sound girly, right? In case you havent noticed, the series is called "The Legend of Zelda." Zelda being a girls name. Wouldnt that make the entire series girly?

This game is going to sell well despite its name. The name will not discourage anyone from buying it. Besides, would you really want someone in our community that would pass up a great game just because its name sounded girly?

But it would increase sales. Once again, the name doesnt bother me, but it will bother so many new fans or nonZelda. Infact it will continue to isolate Nintendo from supposed "Hardcore Gmaers". that's not what the game is about. the game is about saving hyrule and saving zelda. link is a great hero who always saves the damsel in distress. it will still sell, you are right. (dont flame me)

Anyone who wouldn't buy the game just from the title is an idiot. I mean, it shows they care nothing for the Zelda series if they judge it by the title. Never judge a book by it's cover. I think it's a fine name. I see no reason why they should change it. Why should they change the name for people who care nothing about the game? Why does the title matter all that much?

If you are still willing to buy it then there is no reason to debate. However, the name Twilight Princess does not refer to Zelda. It refers to Midna.

Please hear me out... I am not at all discouraged by the title. But many "sexist" gamers are and will be. Is anyone reading my posts or are they just blindly denouncing my opinions? I can list hundreds of ZU members who laughed at the title when it was rumoured. These are fanboys that laughed, not your common videogamer. Please, dont blind yourselves, you know as well as i do that this title will hinder sales. I have given you proof of the dissapproval of this title by yourselves, and you dont believe this will keep people from buying the game? You cant be serious! What happened to the truth? Express yourselve without fear. You all hated the title when it was rumoured. I will Enjoy this game whether or not they keep the title, and I am not a sexist. For if I was by saying this title was girly, then you are all guilty of sexism. What a joke this has become.

And for every one person, that amounts to millions of sales lost because they didnt simply change the title. Once again, I have learned to like the title, but before I hated it, as did many of you. The reason I started this petition was not to make the game more appealing to myself, but to the common gamer.
