A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

Ive been playing many zelda games for years and ive been thinking, would zelda work good as a futuristic game, hyrule set in a year like 3020 and hyrule is now an industrial city in the clouds, link of the future uses a laser sword and energy shield, dungeon keys being key cards.

in my opinion it would be a nice change, it would still kep the basic characteristics of all zelda game just a futuristic look.

Whats your opinions?

btw sorry if this is the wrong place for this, its not a game idea, just a question about fans opinions

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

Part of Zelda's appeal is that you get to explore lush green areas, untouched areas and the like. Where are you gonna go in the setting you mentioned? Down an alleyway, into the market. What about the horse riding boss in TP? Driving and shooting, that's what. That ain't zelda.

I guess in a futuristic Zelda Ganon would be some evil corporate mogul trying to take over the neighborhood :-P

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

Actually, Metroid has already done this. The whole quest/overworld/find-a-new-item-to-get-to-a-new-place thing is all in there. The only thing really different as far as gameplay goes is (A) all the items are controlled with the current buttons and don't require you to select certain items, and (B) the combat controls are a bit different. Metroid Prime actually uses the same L-targeting system the 3D Zelda games do.

I think that would be cool. The game would probly be harder though. But very cool.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

I think that the whole feel of zelda is the medevil type time, but if it was in the future, that doesn't mean that it's all in a city. It would be cool if it had some future things for HYRULE'S time, like renassance things. Cannons are already in it, so that's one step. I think they need to add more of hyrule becoming more advanced, because it seems like there hasn't been any advances in hyrules technolagy for 1000's of years. So, I don't know, I'd be different all right.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

Lord of the Rings is kind of the same. They haven't gotten anywhere in thousands of years either. If middle earth's technology had advanced as much as we have Frodo simply could've taken a helicoptor or strapped the ring to a missile and set the coordinates for Mount Doom :-P

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

That's, like, a good idea at first...but when I think about it more it's just...eh.

Maybe if Hyrule was on some sort of other planet and people from our planet in the future traveled there. It'd be, like, us trying to take over and stuff...

yeah. Hyrule'd still be all medevil but with some high-tech enemies.

But really, I just thought that up in one second. It's probably a crap idea.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

That's a horrible idea, theres no reason to expand upon not for the sake that it will never happen, but because it takes away from what Zelda truely is, a medival fantasy world that fits inside a desk drawer that you can open and enter any time you wish, or at least this is what zelda is according to miyamoto.

Laser swords and energy sheilds are all too cliche anyway, a monoarchy in a futuristic world is almost as unlikely as myself magically turning white. Don't forget that simply changing a world just by looks is nothing innovative and truely inspiring, face lifts are pointless, futuristic zelda's are pointless too.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

I really don't like the idea... sounds to me like too much Star Wars in someway... anyway Zelda has always have that Epic touch and i think that would be totally lost in a futuristic Zelda... i really don't like the idea

Nintendo could and would make it happen, if thats an idea that Shiggy likes, and add time travel to that, transporting back and forth over thousands of years!

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

Man, I have to agree now. It is a bad idea. Zelda is a game where you can explore. At least, that's just what I think when I think of Zelda games.

In a furturistic game, ironically, there's not much left that is new, not much to explore. You're in, oh, a space ship right? What would a space ship be like? Uniform, blank walls, and computers.

Or on the planet it'd just be big cities with similar streets.

I'm not saying Nintendo couldn't come up with any new ideas, but, that's just what usually is with the future games/books/shows I've seen.

Plus, I'm an idiot.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

NO NO NO NO NOOOO!!!!!! A futuristic Zelda game would absolutely NOT work, what I like about Zelda is that it has magic, monsters, and stuff like that. I mean no offence to Crystal Jinfo but the whole point of Zelda games are that they are medieval.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

No thanks. That kind of concept would really rid the series whole Zelda signature feel that people know and love. And such a drastic transition sounds kind of a bad move, all things considered. I don't think Zelda could really keep its characteristics in a futuristic setting. At all.

Re: A futuristic Zelda - would it work?

It would have to be a REALLY small part of the game to work. The idea doesn't facinate me, because one thing I really love in Zelda games is the green nature.

It wouldn't even really be hyrule, either. Just make a futuristic quest/adventure game. Don't try to make it Zelda.

Zelda has a medevil magical fantasy feel to it, so say if you gave link a sniper rifle it will not feel like zelda.

Check out this user's avatar. I think it would be perfect at this time. Link looks cool as hell like that.

It should be like Tales of Symphonia time, if any future time. That pic looks like that time.
