My Take on the Zelda Movie.

Ok I know there is a Zelda Movie section, but that is just to long, and there really is going to be a Zelda movie, so I think it would be wise to make a new thread in Furute Zelda.
OK I think this is one of the best pieces of news I have heard in a while. Everybody is worried, but Nintendo is making it, and that right there made me not worry. I hope it's not live action, and if it is, I hope unknown actors, actresses play the parts and they aren't all jappanese. So anyway, back on topic, my bet it would be mostlikly Anime ( I heard somwhere that Nintendo opened a Anime departmen) Or CG. Many people have said "You won't get the right feel, like the video game..." Ever read the Zelda manga? It was great! And many manga's are play by plays of the tv show, or movie. The movie, if done right will be great. Just because Link is the main character doesn't mean he has to be noisy and talkative. He can be shy and quiet. It's possible. I know that the cartoon was horrible, but give them a chance. My guess is that Mr. Miyamoto will somehow be involved in the movie, and guess what folks? It will just be a movie! I'd rather have it be there than not, even if it does suck, but I am fully confident it will be great. Advent Children Anyone?

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

If the main character(Link) is quite, the movie will suck. Interaction between characters and the main character is very important. I dont want to see the main character just running around not saying a word. They have to show what the main character feel to get a good point of view.

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

Bleh that doesn't mean don't talk at all, Most people think he will talk to much, and he could obviously be shy when he talks to sombody he doesn't know. I mean not be some bigshot guy, just simple, and a little shy. I guess I am saying that because the cartoon he was not shy at all.

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

umm well zelda isnt the movie type I mean a movie about a dude in green running aroun and collecting keys wontldnt be so great unless it was abut the war which would be a nice topic. Link isnt the talkative type even though he'll have too alk it just wont seem right for him.

Amen!

I hope it's not animated, if nothing else. While I don't think the Zelda games are a source of movie-making material, if Nintendo's involved and made some tweeks to the story, it could have some potential as either CG or live-action, although I'm not sure which I prefer. It could either be about the War, or the classic "Gotta save the princess" type plot.

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

I seriously hope Nintendo never makes a Zelda movie. I have absolutely NO hope that it will be good. AT ALL. I can't possibly see a Zelda movie working unless they completely change the forumla: Ruining the Zelda feel. If it's Anime, there's no way I'd like it: I hate Anime. If it's CG, the graphics might work, but the story would undoubtedly either suck or have little to do with Zelda. If it's live action... I hgihgly doubt it'd look good, and ditto on the story.

I can understand a Metroid movie, but it looks like Nintendo is just getting greedy. It's like, as soon as the Halo movie starts getting serious, Nintendo thinks they need to challenge it. When really, IMO, they just can't. There's no way they're going to beat it, even with a kick-butt Metroid movie. And if they make crappy Zelda and Mario movies, they'll just be digging a deeper grave for themselves.

Please, Nintendo. Don't ruin your reputation even further.

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

what the crap is wrong with you people?! you all sound like you hate zelda, in which case this is a rather strange plcae for you to be.

I agree with Z&GS, i think an animated zelda movie would be great, and i suspect it would visually be up to the standard of something like spirited away, which was a vaery good film, after all nintendo have put off doing it for so long that they must have wanted the to wait until they had the resources to do it well.

live action would spoil it for me i think. no one on earth could possibly look like link or any of the other characters should, and with a movie based on a franchise of such importance they would really need to get the details exactly right for fear of upsetting the huge global fan base. it is possible that a CG movie would be good, but there would have to be a very good and well experienced team working on it, and as much as i love nintendo's games they are not exactly well known for their movies.

i think an anime movie would be perfect for the style of zelda, because with the other movie types there is a danger of it becoming too realistic, which it isnt and never should be. even twilight princess is very stylised and anything more true to life than that would take away alot of the magic of the series.

for any of you nay sayers who complain that an animated film would be crap, answer me this:

How many other game based movies that have been altered to allow for a realistic live action style have ever been good?

here are a few bad ones i can think of. Tomb raider, mario brothers, street fighter, mortal kombat although they were entertaining in a funny sort of way.

not many games have been made into animated movies, but the few good ones come from this catagory. the final fantasy series for example has made some great anime movies. so would rather nintendo made a good anime zelda or a moderate at best live action film?

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

SJ, I don't see your reasoning behind accepting a Metroid movie but not a LoZ movie. Metroid's story is flimsy at best (though fun as a background to a great game). The Zelda stories have all been highly involved and plot driven, much better raw material for a movie, if you ask me.

A Zelda movie will give the franchise a chance to develop the characters without having to make the games as long and slow as Final Fantasy games (which I enjoy equally, but differently, to Zelda).

I hope that it's either CG, of Spirits Within calibur, or live action. And getting a half japanese, half white (because I think that's what most japanese game characters are based on -- most of them have mongoloid eyes and caucasoid noses) would be ideal! Just give the actor a blond wig and you're good.

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

Ok, personally, i'd love the Zelda Movie to be animated, and to be made with the anime style. Atleast then we know that Link would look like Link, and not like the guy from the japanese alttp ad. *shudder* Voices are something they will have to work on though.. The guy that does Links voice is japanese. He probably can't speak english, which is why, to keep Links " hiyaaa!"'s sounding the same all over the world, they would use subtitles. Would they use subtitles with the movie so link sounds normal, or would they find some other guy that sounds similar? My main worry ( if they are putting it in anime style ) is Links voice.

Now i was thinking, if there going to do the movie on Oot, they might use the OoT manga as a guide, like so many other anime shows do, like InuYasha, for example. Like, the OoT manga had bits cut out of it to make it shorter. You don't see link going through the water temple, and ruto is with him when he fights morpha, but it was still brilliant. Maybe there going to put that brilliance on the big screen?

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

Zelda movie...No. Unless Nintendo works on it personally, it will destroy Zelda's good name. If Nintendo makes it, it must be CG. Can you imagine a blond man in tights and a skirt (yes, tunic, don't kill me, fanboys)? Alternately, can you imagine a woman in the Great Fairy's outfit?

I didn't think so. Since OoT is the most popular Zelda game, it should be the basis. Link should talk, but only when he is spoken to. There should be less dungeon-time (one of OoT's greatest flaws=approx. 85% of game is dungeons), and more character-depth. Link should spend more time with Zelda as a kid, and should interact with Ruto in Jabu-Jabu's belly. More stuff like that, and it might be alright.

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

According to the swedish gaming-website Gamereactor, Nintendo has stated that Reggie never said anything about a zelda movie, and that the magazine claiming it has publishet a retraction(is that the word? for taking something back?)

here's the link, in swedish though:

Yah, it also states here http://www.clubnintendomx.com/ that the rumor was false but they are making a Metroid movie.

The article is from the official Spanish Nintendo site-I'm about to kill someone

Re: My Take on the Zelda Movie.

That is something I wouldn't want-I DO NOT want it live action. I'll watch Mario when I'm bored to make fun of it but sweet lord that movie was done badly

But their is really no point in worrying since it was false in the first place

sorry basil, i didnt mean any offence, it's just when you said "Just give an actor a blonde wig and you're good", it seemed like you hadn't really thought that one through is all.
