First person Zelda

I'm a bit confused about the latest gossip on Rev Zelda. Everyone seems to just jump to the conclusion that a REmote controlled sword would automatically mean a first person perspective. My question is why? Why not just have a 3rd person view with a link that copies your movement? That's how I always envisioned it working. Has anyone else considered this possibility?

If there's some gap in my thinking here please let me in on it!

Re: First person Zelda

Yea, uh I don't know but I read it somewhere, probably here or in a Hyper magizine but they said that the new form of zelda would be something similar to what you said, and this will change how zelda is seen.

I can't judge something I haven't tried, But I can't see Zelda like a 1st person shooter with a sword and shield (my perception), but then again you never know it could actually work out.
But then again they might not change it to first person and just have the original perspective and still have the movement of the controller to co-exist with how Link interacts with the game....

But if it ever comes to this, there is only one way to find out if it is actually a good idea and actually play it...I think i'll read the book before I judge to much.

Re: First person Zelda

I imagine that Nintendo will just do away with the old control methods of Zelda and create something brand new. They will most likely keep the 3rd person view, but use it in a different way than our current 3D Zelda games.

Re: First person Zelda

well, here's my shpeal... first off, nice to be back, i havent posted in a while, been busy w/ lotsa stuff. anywho, i'm sure if zelda was made into a first person, it would be good, because i dont think nintendo would make a bad zelda game. however, there are always people who don't like change, as shown w/ a couple ppl just saying "no, i'd hate it if it were 1st person!"

next up, i show metroid prime. based off a 2-d sidescroller, and originally planned to be a 3rd person adventure game, it was made into a 1st person shooter, and very successfully at that. (still, some ppl didnt like it, but one can never appeal to EVERYbody)

i then bring up the VERY popular RPG morrowind. If i'm not mistaken (and i'm not), players can play morrowind in a 1st person view, and a lot of them do. it works well, and the weapons are swords, axes, and whatnot.

now i actually generally prefer 3rd person views in games, but i could see a 1st person zelda working very well. i can also see a 3rd person zelda using the remote as a means of slashing your sword working very well. anyways, nice to be back.

It has been stated that TP is (for now, at least) the last Zelda that will use the current view.

Erm, could you put that statement in some context? Where was it stated and who did the stating? A link would be super awesome if you can find one.

Re: First person Zelda

Ok, just saying...

I'm sure people here have heard of it, but there is a game for the PC "Die By the Sword". You control the sword slashes with how you move your mouse. Similar I think to how you would used the rev controller. And it's in third-person.

It's aslo a neat game. x3

I can't help but imagine fighting almost like that in Zelda. It'd be cool.

Re: First person Zelda

theres no way zelda would be put into first person view, if the ydid it would ruin the series, although it could be strong for the zelda series, i think i might actaully like to see a first person zelda, and you know nintendo wont mess this up if it does happen.

Re: First person Zelda

This is like the change from the original legend of Zelda to the adventure of link....
I think without a link there would be no Zelda and thus no smash bros link. Although it would be nice to see the world from link's perspective but then again it’s not that much different from seeing it in a 3rd person view

There is little point in debating whether or not the rev Zelda will be 3rd person or 1st because if the view chosen does badly Nintendo will change it to what’s best. I’m pretty sure we'll know what perspective it will be by what ever E3 it appears at

Re: First person Zelda

Why would anyone think that? Crazy. It's pretty much set in stone that Zelda is 3rd person forever. A sword game from a 1st person WOULD be interesting, but not a Zelda game. 3rd person all the way!

Re: First person Zelda

I think they get that from the misconception that the Rev is something of a virtual reality-- from your own viewpoint and prespective. I wouldn't know what to call the Rev though. I think of it as a virtual reality to some length, but eh, I wouldn't know.

Re: First person Zelda

The joystick attachment will be used to navigate 3rd person Link. The Rev "Remote" will be used for the sword, hurling bombs based on how hard you thrust it, arrows, etc. I hope the Rev. Zelda works like this.

I thought that was common knowledge by now.

'TP will be the last Zelda as we know it in its present form.'

That's what Aonuma said, but people always ignore the last part, and thinks that only the gameplay will be changed. But he said in its present form, so clearly he meant that Zelda Revolution and Zelda DS will use a different view.

Well, here's at least the evidence that Zelda DS will use a different view.

Ah ok got it now, so everyone's jumping to the conclusion from there

Nice to know but pretty far fetched IMHO.

Re: First person Zelda

Personally, I hope they keep the third person view. I dunno how they're gonna change it for the Revo Zelda or DS Zelda, but I hope that when they see it stinks, they'll change it back. I like 3rd person Zelda. It pwns.

Re: First person Zelda

i love how ppl just ignore my nice long post......look at metroid prime...ppl were all like "nooo, dont put it in 1st person, it'll suck" (much like many of you here), but actually, it was one of very few games to score three 10's in EGM...and it was a sweet game. then i said, look at morrowind, a very popular RPG where ppl use swords and stuff in a first person view, and it works well. i would prefer a 3rd person zelda, but a 1st person view would suffice
