Exclamation Holo-Zelda

I just read a BusinessWeek interview with Shigeru Miyamoto. He was talking mostly about Revo, but he said something that made my spine tingle (and I'm not talking about the campy, green-clad Faerie wannabe).

Quote:
It's convenient to make games that are played on TVs. But I always wanted to have a custom-sized screen that wasn't the typical four-cornered cathode-ray-tube TV. I've always thought that games would eventually break free of the confines of a TV screen to fill an entire room. But I would rather not say anything more about that.
The bulk of this passage sounds like any gamer's idle dreaming, but the last sentence gave me shivers of excitement. I know that holograms are a long way from our living rooms (actually, there is an R&D firm that created a 3D TV, you watch it as though looking into a fish-tank. I can't remember exactly how it works, but it's solid glass block made up of many layers, each layer has a slice of the 3D image projected on it, creating a true 3D hologram), but the idea that Nintendo is thinking that way (and possibly testing technology out for future consoles) makes me hearte go all a-flutter-like.

Other interpretations? Other rumours? Would you like a truly 3D Zelda game? How do you think it would play? What possibilities for gameplay would it open up? Shoot, this sure is a rich topic. *Pats self on back*

So did TVs when they were new technology.

I was just discussing this with a colleague of mine. Gamers won't see the first holo-tvs. The first application of holographic technology like this (other than in military training and recon) will be in mult-national business. Teleconferencing all over the world. Imagine sitting in a conference room full of "people" who were really half-way round the world! The big businesses will be able to afford this tech, and the more they buy, the less expensive it becomes. Next will be games. I mention military applications above. Training games will be used on this type of tech, which will blaze a trail for commercial game companies to follow. Finally, the last sector to use this technology will be television and movies. They'll be last because of the enormous investment it would take to film something that was going to be projected in three dimensions. Cameras all over the room, from every angle! I doubt that will happen any time soon. More likely an new type of capturing tech will be developed. A thin layer of tiny photoreceptors that could be painted or stuck to any surface. Camera wallpaper!

But I digress. Games is what we're here to talk about, and Zelda games in particular. Put the Revo's controller (or a more advanced version of it) together with the fishtank 3D TV I mentioned above and imagine what the experience would be like. I think seeing a little 3D Link in a box would make the motions of swinging the sword even easier and more intuitive.

Re: Holo-Zelda

You talk like Holograms don't exist. The technology is indeed out there, but in a form WAY to expensive and difficult to use. Even still, it's possible. I guess the natural progression would be to "Holo-visions," and knowing the gaming market, they'd snatch it up in a second. Imagine making your way through a 3D Forest Temple, vines rising up around you into the mist...

I do? I'm pretty sure I don't, actually. Careful reading please.

As I said earlier, we will see holographic games BEFORE we see holographic television or movies. Shooting live action in real 3D means literally a room made of cameras. But CG games are already in three dimensions. Much easier to translate games and CG movies and such to holo-tech than it would be to make something like "holo-vision" as you so quaintly put it.

Oh, I'd give it at least twice that amount of time. Unfortunately, the future just doesn't come along fast enough.

your right, i was just a bit optemistic .

But to tell the truth i think it is possible that this will be the next "Revolution" that nintendo creates.

But for some WIERD reason i think the first ones with this will be sony... IF it will ever happen and i think it will.

I certainly will. And there's nothing weird about thinking Sony will be first. Sony creates a much wider scope of electronics, and has a larger base for innovation, not to mention a larger market to get research capital from.

Re: Holo-Zelda

It's an eventuality. but i don't think Video games will be the first to capture this kind of technology, it'll exist for some time before it's used.

Such expensive and new technology would be very hard to market to the General population. A company most certainly fail if they released it as soon as it was possible, rather then waiting for advances, and most importantly a better availability to people.

Hylian Shield, Eye of truth, Fire and ice arrows, Nayru's love and Farore's wind, Deku nuts, Ammo upgrades, Special swords, Golden skulltulas, Extra hearts/heart pieces, coated hearts, The song of Storms, the sun song, Epona's song, scarecrow song, and any extra bottles.

If anyone knows how to get around using bombchus in Ganon's Tower, PM me. I have tried everything.

Currently working on a similar runthrough with Master Quest/and minimum running ALttP now.
Also 3 hearted - tWW, MM, OoT MQ (Not sure if what i have is minimum though).
