Talking Side Quests and Mini-Games

The Legend of Zelda franchise is famous (or infamous) for its ubiquitous side quests and mini-games. I want to know a) if you enjoy these little distractions (answer by voting in the poll above) and b) what side quests and mini-games you would like to see in future Zelda installments.

So let us have it! Be wild and creative. Be thoughtful and involved. Be ridiculous (the funnier the better).

In another thread, during a somewhat humourous exchange with Wielder of the Sword, I stumbled upon a silly idea for a side quest: Link must collect a full bucket of drool for an eccentric (read: crazy) old man in a pretend potion shop. The reward for collecting the drool? a phial of Minty-breath potion! Our hero wants to look and feel (and smell) his best when he's squaring off against the King of Thieves. All the better to impress Zelda!

Meh, I don't really pay attention to the extremely long ones like the WW figurine one, but I've always enjoyed the trading one, where you trade one item for another, then that for another, and so on and so forth.

Minigames are okay to, I'll play them once but never really go back and play them over and over and over again.

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

I only do the sidequest in zelda games if you finally get something good in return( for example Oot after the sidequest you get the biggoronsword). And I don't play that much mini games only if you get piece of heartes, but the fishing was something that I liked the most.

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

Yeah, the sidequests are really fun to do when your stuck on solving a puzzle in a dungeon or something. My favorite sidequest in tWW was the figurine making one. I really hope they have a figurine making sidequest in Twilight Princess! The only sidequests I dont like are the ones that are timed because I always rush and mess up!

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

I like most of the sidequests, and I'll play them all just for fun and to see what will happen at the end. I don't really have a problem with them. They're just there for fun, right?

The mini-games and side quests are fun, especially when you just want to let out frustraions on some poor target.

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

I love mini quests. I play them all through, always thinking up crazy ways i can do them better. Especially the fishing in Ocarina of time. I'll often turn on the game for the sole purpose of playing this.

I've also raced the marathon man. . alot.

It's good for our hero to have an escape from saving the land from certain doom. .

Hylian Shield, Eye of truth, Fire and ice arrows, Nayru's love and Farore's wind, Deku nuts, Ammo upgrades, Special swords, Golden skulltulas, Extra hearts/heart pieces, coated hearts, The song of Storms, the sun song, Epona's song, scarecrow song, and any extra bottles.

If anyone knows how to get around using bombchus in Ganon's Tower, PM me. I have tried everything.

Currently working on a similar runthrough with Master Quest/and minimum running ALttP now.
Also 3 hearted - tWW, MM, OoT MQ (Not sure if what i have is minimum though).

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

Sidequests are awesome. I mainly like the trading sequences; the longer the better. I'd like to see a sidequest like the Biggoron Sword one, but longer and maybe with a magical spell payoff. Or maybe a pet payoff, since we get animals in here, I'd love to be able to keep an animal (KITTY!) as a pet for doing something for somebody.

Mini-games...they're fun, but I don't play them as much as I do sidequests. Both, though, are very good distractions from the main quest. I'll play them when I don't feel like doing another dungeon at the moment.

I guess you could vote for the third option. It leaves some room for playing them occasionally.

Come on people, I know you're more creative than this. So far only one other idea? (Thanks Sasuke-kun).

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

You are assigned by the mayor of Toaru to a mission. A mission to Destroy All Pants!! Pants have been causing serious problems in the community: Chafing, occassionally looking ridiculous, restricting the hippy movement, and third legs getting caught in zippers. Your goal is to set every pair of pants you can find aflame, even if they are on people. Use fire arrows, Din's Fire, a stick, whatever methods you see fit to complete your quest against the evil pants. Once you complete the quest and have successfully turned every pair of pants in the village to ash, you will be greeted gratefully by the mayor.

Your reward? A pair of shorts. Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuun!

But one question: would Link have to lose his tights?

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

Actually, Link and I would end up squaring off. I happen to like pants.

Blitz: *Draws Supernova sword* Link, you used to be the Hero of Time, but... I can't let you destroy pants so recklessly like this!

Link: You have been sucked in by their propaganda, Blitz! We fought alongside to defeat Kyros and Ganondorf. How can you side with the enemy now?

Blitz: I'm sorry to say this, Link, but you've been deluded. The mayor has deceived you, he's been using you since the beginning.

Link: Don't be a fool! You know as well as I do that the pants have caused meaningless pain and suffering to countless innocent people! Why are you trying to protect them?!

Blitz: There's no way that the mayor could have completely changed you, Link... What has happened to you? What are you trying to prove?

Link: I'm only doing what I know is right.

Blitz: I am sorry that it has come to this.

*Commence climactic battle*

Re: Side Quests and Mini-Games

In my frosh week at the University of Toronto, we had a mock protest. We marched up and down the streets of Toronto with signs that condemned pants. We all wore shorts or kilts or skirts or anything that wasn't pants.

I'm with WotS. I like pants. I like pants a lot. I sleep in a nest of pants at night. If I'm lonely, I hug a pair of pants (this can be embarrassing if there is someone in the pants).

On a serious note: I'd like to see a side quest that made Link a spy. Sort of like Windfall Island's little gossip gathering quest, but more grown up. Link could solve crimes and uncover a plot to assasinate someone. The reward could be simply the consequences of completing the quest. I.E. if Link solves a crime and puts the criminal behind bars, that criminal (who would be in Link's way later) is not in his way later on in the game. Or if he stops an assasination, the person he saves could show up in moments of need later in the game (whereas if he doesn't stop the assasination, he gets no help).
