Lightbulb Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

A lot of games have experience and leveling up, should Zelda have that too?

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

If I want to play a game with XP I'll play Final Fantasy. Games like that are fun but because Zelda has no XP it feels more natural and organic. Link's increase in skill is your increase in skill. When I was playing ALttP it was fun to see how the same old bad guys got so much easier even though I had all the same items. It was my skill that grew not a simple matter of strategy as so many RPG are. And that makes the game that much more real.

u gain "hp" which are your hearts, and your dex and other rpg bs are determined by the players reflexes, which cant be controlled in a turn based system xp is usually found in.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

defenitely not, I think it should depend on the player's own skill-gaining not on items. I think it would really ruined the game, plus like somebody said, its enough with the heart and the magic meter level up.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

Definately not, but what I would like to see is any form of a multiplayer aspect... So far I've seen none [apart from FSA] and some kind of dueling system between 2 players would make me very happy.

Yes, multiplayer would be nice...like a fighting arena.

No. No way. AoL taught us that.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

well I think later games should have a way of keeping track on your skill level. How quickly you took out an enemy, which weapons you used, how often you used them; so that when you return to that dungeon again, the enemies will fight you based on your skill level.

**Nirvana moment**
Wouldn't have been nice in tWW to have enemies get harder as you progress with your sword training with orca. Once link reaches master, even the common bokoblin deals as much damage as a darknut.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

Yeah, I like it the way things are. And Vacumgods idea wasn't bad either. You could go train with Orca [or someone similar] in future games, and the better you get, the harder the enemies get. Sort of like 'unlocking' a harder skill level. That would be loads of fun.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

Shigeru Miyamoto once said in an interview back in the 90's that he never liked that games, such as RPGs, decide when you should gain more experience and more skill. In Zelda, he wanted to keep it the way it is because the player gains "true" skill as he or she continues to play the game - the player understands the controls better and gains new abilities with certain items rather than getting X amount of points for killing a certain enemy.

Sure I like RPGs like Final Fantasy and even Adventure of Link, but I don't think future Zelda games should have EXP points.

Hell no. Those games are fun - but Zelda is more fun, in that your chances of winning are determined by your skill and NOT by your skill points.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

It would be cool having Exp in TP, but a different kind of system. It should be a mixing between Dungeon Siege and Tales Of Symphonia. Everytime you use your sword, your Sword Skills raises, when you get it to the max you gain a Sword Skill Lvl 2, and it gives you 1 point to asign in a Skill list. The skills are attacks, for example the Downward attack we all love from the trailers could be obtained only when you are Lvl 5 in skill. Also different attacks like a better spin attack. Every weapon should have this system. The bow in Lvl 50 (suposedly is max lvl) is able to shoot 3 fire arrows at the same time. an so on with every weapon.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

This goes right along with the "Links clothing/ items supplies" thread of making Zelda into a true RPG... it's a nice idea, but I would Zelda just the way it is; I enjoy it's simplicity.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

I have to disagree Dalo. Well it would be cool to fire three arrows if they wanted that effect I think a special bow or arrows would work better.

Red face

I do have to say, a monster arena would be cool, and there have been special weapons that shoot three projectiles atonce, like in the GBA games, but I can disagree on EXP gaining, because at the first boss, you could be at level 25 and kill it in one shot.

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

[rant]No way. Why strip Zelda of its ingeuinity? Roleplaying games, regardless of how fun and addicting they are, esentially fit the criteria of a Repetitive Pointless Game. Yes, they may be initially groundbreaking, but look at it from one prespective. Break roleplays into their core concepts and what do you get? It's a game powered by an engine comprised fully of random number generators and math problems. Hell, the formula is incredibly simple to maniuplate-- ever wonder why debugging a roleplaying game is so easy? Zelda is much more to that, but in all fairness, I suppose roleplaying games are good-- but Zelda carries such an innoative engine. Top the math engine up with excellent music, great graphics, and a driving story and you have yourself the basic recipie for a RPG. [/rant]

Re: Should the Zelda games have EXP gaining?

Zelda, while having RPG elements is really more of an adventure game, and the diversity of weaponry he has makes up for EXP, as Master Sword is strongerthn Kokiri Sword, but is weaker than the Giggoron Sword, so I guess sometimes you do 'level up' though discreetly.

I think that If Link has a magic meter (duh-stupid me, he does), for every magical-using creature he slays, he get point that not only increase his magic meter, but allow him to cast spells, and improve on thier fatality, the more points he accumulate - akin to Fable on Xbox.
