zelda army game

let's add this to the stupid idea pile....

Franchise games such as Zelda have to play their cards right if they wanna survive in this business. That rules out changing games to give the "casual" gamer what they want. If Nintendo did that, Mario would be holding a semi-automatic right now and would be gunning down diddy kong.

Messing with video game formulas to suit the casual audience is stupid, and that's why some games these days end up being worthless.

i.e. Star Fox Adventures.....it was a sad attempt at a Zelda game with Star Fox theme. It was pointless, really, considering that Fox should be out there Blasting with a gun than hitting dinosaurs with a staff. Or how bout Shadow the Hedgehog? They've just officially killed the Sonic series.

These games may create a good experience, but when you strip it all down, its a missed oppurtunity.

Yes, the depart from the standard shooter butchered up Star Fox really bad. And Mario is already versatile from default, but definitely not Link.

yeah, mixing with games is bad. But making link a soldier doesnt have to be bad. It is (as some people at this thread says) a good story. Maybe to make a background, like now when he is a "cowboy". How many thought he would become a cowboy?

It's not that hard to believe, since Nintendo is making it seem like Link is very skilled with horsebackriding, and that he owns a horse from the very beginning of the game.

yes but its not like they cant go back to its old ways.... now just look at assult! Theres a new sonic game?

I personally think that if they just had a war as a background element to the story, and not actually participate, it would be good.

But making Zelda into a war strategy/general shoot-'em up (or in this case, slash-'em up) game would be a vast, un-attainable departure from the normal Zelda feel.

No. I thought Assault sucked. Purely because they tried to make two different aspects of it(on foot and shooter, although shooter rocked and the on foot levels sucked). You kind of defeated your own point there...only more reason why Zelda should not do it.

First off- Link isn't a "cowboy." He's really more of a goat herder or something. From what I understood, "cowboy" was the best translation for what Aunoma (sp?) said.

As for a Zelda RTS- I've actually had some fun imagining that. It's highly unlikely that it will happen, though. I'd rather have more of the standard series.

In an RTS, I can see multiple armies/races/whatever-
Hylians (basically your standard army)
Zoras (power naval forces, stealth units in water)
Gorons (mostly power, I guess)
Gerudo (stealth, sabotage)
Monsters (again, power. I haven't thought everything through)

I can see every race having a hero or two. Hylians getting Link and Zelda, the monsters getting Ganondorf. Perhaps units nearby a unit would fight better (morale). People like Ganondorf would probably give more morale than Link. C'mon, Ganondorf's an actual ruler.
And for nostalgia's sake, I'd like hearing Hylian villagers periodically say "I AM ERROR" when you click on them.

I'm sorry but I can't see Link as a soldier or a leader. Link is the Hero of Time, not the Hero of War! Link stands alone on his Hyrulian quests. Adding soldiers to help him would change everything the Zelda series has become.

A Age of Empires style zelda game could work. Imagine having a bustling hyrule city or a dark fortress of evil. If there was such a game it should be in Age of Mythology style graphics and have life in th city. In AOK the house's were lifeless and bases did not seem to be alive with people and animals. There should be Stronghold style batlle tactics and great hyrule music and a wealth of city building options.

i would have like the link as a soldier thing to be a massive online/multiplayer (4 player) adventure where you teamed up, took over castles and could unlock any enemy after the first time you kill them imagine floating above your comrades leading an assault as wart over hyrule field
