Zelda Idea...

II have an idea that in zelda there should be like spells to cast. Not like dins fire...like the songs, you have a special wand and you wave it to make certain spells. This may put zelda in a different section then and be thought of the wrong way or something like that. Some people may like it or hate it what do you think?

I think that Link is a sword fighter who uses magical items from time to time not a magician. So I don't like the idea of having him using spells. I think the limit lies with wands like in LttP where they are used to shoot fire/ices make blocks.

Making him more of a sorceror would feel wrong, the whole game concept would change too, the balance between sword and magic would shift too far.

A wand is too similar to the baton, it is also too similar to the idea of witches and warlocks, cheesy magic sort of stuff.

I would perfer to have link use some sort of book, in the book, link would be able to collect magic spells as the game progresses.
As far as casting the spells go, Link could move his arm in certain directions, similar to the ocarina or the baton, as long as it isnt an instrument, I'm fine.

I really don't think spells would fit in with a Zelda game. I completely agree with Nictel

....just about every big zelda game has had spells.

OoT, MM, tWW, AoL, and I think Alttp had magic spells...

as far as I'm concerned, magic spells are just as much as part of zelda as the mastersword its.

As I understand it it was about Link having a book saying something and shooting fire from his hands kind of spells. Because that kind of magic spells were never used by Link

I don't call shooting fire arrows or changing in to Zora spells but more like I said magic items.

Or is that what is ment, that kind of 'spells'?

The word "spells" refers to some sort of incantation or manipulation of the environment (IE: Shooting fireballs out of your hands, freezing things with a chant). Din's Fire, Nayru's Love, and Farore's Wind aren't really classified as spells to me because Link never used a specific spell to envoke them. It seemed more of a mental thing, like telekinesis. (Pyrokinesis, Cryokinesis, etc). What he did in OoT wasn't "spells" to me, it was more of a mental power he gained as he grew more as the Hero of Time.

but personaly i dont like the idea, i picture Link a warrior, who prefers swords.

Um I think if you put link in a world and gave him a wand it would just look and seem bad, I mean Link is a sword fighter and not a magic dude. It would seem more like harry potter than Legend of Zelda, dont get me wrong Harry Potter games are good. But Link with magic wands argh.... no.

I should have elaborated on my idea a bit more,

The ocarina, and the baton both were magical items, one allowed link to travel through time, the other, to control the winds, but, the also gave link the power to "cast" spells if you will. such as, changing day into night, or, causing rain, or warping link to different places/

spells can be songs also

Me, I love elemental magic, but I don't think Link is a mage. I would like him to be, but he is a fighter.

If I was plopped in Hyrule, I would be a spellcaster through and through. I prefer magic and its connection with nature and the mind.

Im gonna have to say no.

Anway, back on topic, who wants Link to use some magic or not?

I want. He already has on several occasions, and he's a Hylian.

He's closer to a paladin. He casts magic, is good with a sword AND is dedicated to a specific Goddess. *cough*Farore*cough*

Maybe he gets wands, but they are not nessicerily for combat? They could be used for crossing terrain, like a jet of water could put out flames, a wood spell could be like magic beans?

it would be cool to get some spells, but not strong ones, i am thinking you get wolf spells because it would get boring not being able to do anything new with wolf link after you have played it for a while
