Yahoo! Article on Twilight Princess

I was looking around Yahoo! and came across this

I never knew anyone would ever claim Link a sheppered. And I never knew you can play music with grass. And I never knew Link is an elf.

well, the animals we se him "cowboying" are as far as I know supposed to be som kind of goats, so I guess he is a sheppard, and he does use grass to call the horse and the hawk, but an elf? that's just wrong, isn't it?

Re: Yahoo! Article on Twilight Princess

I always saw him as an elf, because of the pointy ears. Anyway the elves are supposed to be the most noble of the fairy races, so I guess that is why the Hylians are the dominant race.

Re: Yahoo! Article on Twilight Princess

Hylians share many traits with your average fantasy elf, so I guess you could call Link an elf, at least if you're not "into" the LoZ-lore.

Re: Yahoo! Article on Twilight Princess

I think it was Gamespot that said that they use the term "cowboy" for Link because of the fact that "shephard" doesn't translate that easily in Japanese.

You know, one of my pet peeves is people calling Hylians "elves." And I see it from time to time on Fanfiction.net. Crazy...

Re: Yahoo! Article on Twilight Princess

the Japanese use Cowboy because many Japanese people don't understand the Japanese conjugation of shepherd. As for Link being an elf, I usually threaten to kill anyone who calls him that X3

Edit: Beat me by 2 minutes, but said the exact same thing...huh.

Well cowboy and sheperd in some ways are a little alike. It doesnt really matter if they cal Link an elf, he has long ears what do you expect.

Nothing more from the average (dumb) gamer, but from a journalist writing about the game on one of the web's most popular sites? More.

And Janus and Kyrio were both correct in their statements about why they applied the term "Cowboy" to Link this time around.

Re: Yahoo! Article on Twilight Princess

Yeah, Link is more of a shepherd than a cowboy, but the Japanese folks don't understand the word "shepherd" all too well. I like how Link is a shepherd; it's a great way to further associate Link as being the savior of Hyrule. Pure genious.
