The information, AND the source.

I e-mailed Nintendo about the timeline placement of the new Zelda game. I asked, "how many years after The Wind Waker does the new Zelda take place?" This is what I received:

Message(#6851-000412-3961\4123961)

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

Over the years, there has been plenty of speculation regarding the timeline that the Zelda games fall into. Before the release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, it was thought that the Link character was one individual. Now that we know this isn't the case, there is no real frame of reference or timeline that the games can be categorized into.

For additional information on The Legend of Zelda series, please visit our official Zelda web site at www.zelda.com.

Sincerely,

Re: The information, AND the source.

Aaah I see now, but he doesent directly state that it will have nothing to do with wind waker, he just states that there is no category or reference the zelda games can be categorized in to not that it will have nothing to do with ww.

Re: The information, AND the source.

The person didn't answer the question asked really. That person appears to refer to an entire timeline rather than just the two games grouped together, they could have small timelines with in the series. And if I were you I wouldn't bother asking them about that, they didn't say for a reason is what I'd think. As not to reveal any story to it.

Your probably the only person who ever though of actually asking nintendo.I just try to place it as best as I can or the simple version they are all pieces(current games) to one big legend(timeline) but some of the pieces are missing(new games).

Re: The information, AND the source.

I wouldnt look too much into that having anything to do with the new Zelda. I got the exact same response to my email to Nintendo:

Hello Nintendo,
I was just wondering if there was an official timeline for which the Legend of Zelda series takes place. The only sense I can make out of it, is that the only timeline is Ocarina of Time --- Majoras Mask --- The Wind Waker. It seems as if there wasnt really a timeline or overall story idea untill Ocarina of Time, and I could sleep alot better at night if I just knew there was an official timeline and how it went.
Im hoping Im right that its just the main console Zelda's starting with Ocarina of Time that are linked together. That way this new game coming out soon for GameCube will be a sequal to The Wind Waker. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Sincerely,
Travis Van Woert
PS: Im wondering about a timeline for ALL the games, just not the ones I mentioned.

Nintendo responds to such messages with pre-written messages. They don't even do much more than scan through the e-mails and look for keywords before deciding what message to send you. The message that they did send you is intentionally vague and proves absolutely nothing at all.

Re: The information, AND the source.

my bet, is that there is a timeline. think about it. just because there is more than one Link, its not to say that there can't be a timeline. just multiple Links appearing on said timeline.

and if any of you forget, while tWW showed us that there are multiple Links, it also proved to us that there is a timeline, becuase it directly refers to the Hero of time, "hundreds of years ago"

my conclusion on the matter: what Sear said - Nintendo are being deliberately vague. chances are they dont want to reveal any of their future intentions too soon, they want to keep leads available to add to the timeline where they see fit and not feel restricted to what they have officially released, or both. hell, that's what i would do, if i owned such a corporation.

Nintendo read the first scentence and send you the same response over and over. Heh, one time I got an E-mail from a person on Nintendo name Kurt Wagner, it was funny.

Yea, Nightcrawler was awesome!

On Topic: Nintendo is notorious for giving out automated responses, not just for Zelda, but for nearly all subjects in general.

FINALLY! Someone else who doesn't beleive that there is a direct and logical link between each game, to this day all we know is that Oot, MM, and WW(might have forgot one, sorry) are sequels to eachother, trying to connect every game is a waste of time.

I bet if an interviewer actually asked miyamoto if there was a direct timeline, he would say no, but I don't think anyone has ever askedso we may never know.

Re: The information, AND the source.

I don't understand why people care so much about the whole timeline anyways. It really isn't that big of a deal. Story in general isn't that important in games, in my opinion. I appreciate good stories, but they aren't necessary for every game. A timeline is even less important, and I agree with Tigerboi, one for the Zelda series probably doesn't even exist.

Re: The information, AND the source.

No, but stories help. And it's fun to TRY and link the games through vague hints or similarities in the stories. Though we all know deep down, that there is no direct timeline...*sigh*
