Enemy weapons,utilized better

One of the idea's that was interesting in WW and one that I think should be in Zelda 05 was the ability to pick up enemy weapons. It really seemed like an after thought when making WW, but with a little refining I really think it could be something that could expand the gameplay in ways people couldn't earlier imagine. I thought it was cool to slash a moblin then when it was stunned pick up it's spear and nail it with it, it felt some what satisfying to defeat an enemy with his own weapon, i don't know if anyone feels the same way though. This really could have been a interesting feature if only you could hold onto an enemy weapon throughout a dungeon or temple and use it in another situation, it was anoying when you got a hold of something like shadow ganon's sword and you couldn't use it on anything. I'm not sure how Link would be able to use it, maybe have an item like the minish cap that is only used to shrink down weapons so link could use them for later, or something like that.

A game like Prince of Persia showed how using an ememys weapon could be fun and penificial to the gameplay without it taking away from the experience. Because in PoP you could take an enemys weapon after you defeated him, only if you had a free hand to use it with. the Prince always carries a sword leaving only one hand free to carry another weapon, and because of this you can't hold onto the weapon through the hole adventure making the game very balanced. It could be the same for link, for example if you wanted to have Link weild his sword and another small weapon similar to a sword or staff you would have to use both hands leaving link without his sheild, thus balancing the situation. For larger swords aswell Link would have to use two hands and thus put away the sheild but it would be beneficial because the sword is much stronger then Links default sword. This is just one thought,I'm sure other's have some ideas on the matter, so I'd like to here what everyone else thinks.

P.S. this isn't ment to be a generic "what weapons do you want to see" thread its ment to discuss the weapons you could weild from defeated enemys.

Sounds like a cool idea, maybe it will be in the game play of Zelda 2k5, I would also like the parry attack to be in the new Zelda game.

and then making something like collect all types of enemy weapons to get a real cool sword from a guy as a reward (like the knight crests from TWW to get the hurricane spin)

Carrying enemy weapons with you... Hmm, it could cause some trouble for the puzzles, imagine that you're in a room with some really hard monster carrying some really long sword whose purpose is to be used on that crystal behind the iron bars to open and your regular sword cant reach, if you could carry them with you, you'd be able to skip challenges such as these. Plus they're pretty worthless for fighting.

I disagree about the parry attack, it made all the enemies so ridiculously easy, all you had to do was to stare at the a button and press once it lit up which for an über powerfull strike which basically did all the job for you.

well, this could bring some cool ideas for puzzles and combat
but as someone stated earlier, parrying makes things TOO easy

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

I do agree that the parrying system should be changed, but not comepletly taken out. Instead of killing an enemy in one hit or something, just let the parry avoid attacks but not automatically attack back, the user has to attack themselves. There is a difference between a parry and a counter, in the WW it was more like a counter then a true parry, most parries I've seen in real games are just used to avoid attacks or block them a certain way, but not actually attack, but maybe the word parry and counter got mixed up in the japanese to english port.

I never used parry that much, only when I had to. I did like using enemy weapons though, when you’re in a tight spot you can just through them and knock enemies down.

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

The thing with using enemy weapons is that you should be able to carry them from room to room. That way, they could play a better part in puzzle-solving. For instance, perhaps simply GETTING the weapon needed to solve a puzzle back to the room you need to use it in, maybe that could be a puzzle in itself.

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

i liked the weapon stealing idea, but the problem with it was thatthe weapons were unweildy, and it took ages to position yourself over the item right. i have the following ideas:

if you want to pick up the item, simply roll over he handle, or close to. it doesnt break flow of battle, and looks cooler.

each weapon should have distinct differences in strength, and the way you use it.

just my 2 cents. what do you think?

Yeah, the parry attack made Ganondorf WAY too easy.

Actually, it's impossible to beat Ganondorf without using the "parry" technique.

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

I thimk that would be great, being able to actually keep like 5 enemy weapons at one time like in a bait bag or something and would be able to interchange your baddie weapons when the bag is full with other weapons.

Yeah.
It would be great to have a bag of enemy weapons and then just take them out when ever you want.
And it would also be great if we could carry them with us, and not drop them when we enter a door!!

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

Personally, I felt that using the weapons of your enemies was stupid and boring. I wouldn't mind seeing the feature dropped altogether. If they bring it back, I really hope it isn't expanded and plays an even smaller role.

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

IMO there should be like a stamina bar, so if you pick up an enemies weapon thats 3 times bigger than you, then there may be some difficulty performing speedy attacks

yeah that's good, but without the stamina bar.

It might be cool to be able to pick up like a special item that you keep throughout the game that gives you a weird ability, or just something like a new sword. For example, picking up a black long-sword from a fallen boss that is similar to the Biggoron Sword. Heavy, two-handed, but causes extra damage. You could even pick up an article of clothing, like..... some gloves? Gauntlets? What do you think?

Yeah, the stanima bar is a great idea. However, I wouln't want there to be that many weapons. If there were too many weapons than the different weapons wouln't be unique.

Re: Enemy weapons,utilized better

I think it would be be sorta neat to have a spear that you could keep throughout the game.

EDIT: Oh yeah, does anyone think it would be cool to shoot an enemy, and then see the arrow stuck in him? I do.

Also, I think you should be able to retrieve arrows that you fire unless they snap or something.
