A Dramatic Conclusion
Before reading this, understand that I have no intention of trying to come up with an entire storyline. I am not creative enough to do so. So simply read my idea for a good finish with the understanding that it fits into the story well. After reading, comment or critisize my idea and add your own ideas.
My idea for the last two hours of the game or so would be to pick up the action a bit. The whole game would feel like any other Zelda, filled with puzzle solving and exploration, until the ending that is. As you return to Hyrule Castle with the last (insert artifact here) you spot Gannondorf and his enormous army marching across the field. Rain and night fall occur. Gannondorf leads his men towards the castle, where they are met by Hyrule soldiers. You watch a cutscene where the Hyrule troops are overwhelmed by Gannondorf's soldiers. When defeat seems almost certain, a shining light parts the dark clouds. It is Link of course, riding his horse over the hill ready to turn the tide of battle. The Hylian soldiers morale is renewed and the player will take control of Link at this point. During this time, you would ride around the field, and try to hinder Gannondorf's progress towards the castle as much as possible. It would be an action packed segment of the game. You could even square of with Gannondorf (on his horse as well) during this time. This battle could only be described as epic. Use your imagination! After awhile, the lead general of the Hylian army will tell you that they need backup in the town. Your objective during this time would be to help various citizens as they are being captured by Gannondorf's forces. Once you save the last citizen (you don't have to save every citizen in the town, maybe just 3-4) they tell you that Gannondorf was heading towards the castle. Naturally, you head that way. When you reach the top of Hyrule Castle, you find Gannondorf and the King of Hyrule. Right as you enter, Ganon orders a few Monblins to take the king away, and then sends a few Iron Knuckes your way and escapes. After you defeat the two knuckles, another short cutscene takes place. When you regain control, you are in the middle of Hyrule town. Thanks to you, the city was not taken by Gannondorf, but everybody is worried of future attacks. And the King is missing as well. At this point, you recieve a telepathic message from Gannondorf, who has retreated to his castle. He tells you of a new passage that has opened (that leads to his castle) in Hyrule field. And he dares you to come. So you head out to the newly opened passage. It leads to a small woods, which serves as path to Gannondorf's land. When you come out the other side of the small woods you see a vast field in front of you. There are no leaves on the trees, death is everywhere, and the sky is a darkish red. While technically not the Dark World, this area would be very, very similar. And so, a redone version of the Dark World theme begins to play. Though the field in front of you is fairly large, it is also very linear. In short the only way to go is forward and Gannondorf is ready for you. Throughout the field there are traps and highly equipped enemies. There are no replenishments so you better stock up prior to entering. There are Bokoblin archers whom you must clear out with your bow (I think "bow and arrow fights" in general could be interesting throughout the game). An example of a neat trap would be a bomb plant field. Archers would shoot the bombs setting off a huge reaction and doing major damage. That does sound pretty fun in my opinion! In addition there would be many other traps and enemies. Once again, It is extremely difficult to describe what is in my head, so use your imagination! Once across the field you would enter Gannondorf's castle and defeat him. No need to go into detail there. After all of that, let me just say a few things. I know this thread doesn't have much of a point, or much potential for discussion. I simply had an urge to write. Secondly, excuse me if I was redundant in my word selection or sentence patters, or had less than stellar grammar. I was pretty much rambling and typing very fast. Thirdly, I realize this is a very un-Zelda finish; nevertheless, it would be fresh and a big surprise. Obviously I wouldn't want the whole game to be like that. Lastly, I admit there was probably some Lord of the Rings inspiration in there! Post your thoughts, comments, and ideas. And I thank you if you read all of that! |

Re: A Dramatic Conclusion
that sounds cool... but i doubt the begining of the game will follow suit with the trailer, they usually like to start the game off easy then it gets harder as you progress, nintendo makes most of the zelda's with the intention of new people playng it so they tend to make things easy to start off. The epic/war type battle sounds cool but if Zelda 05 pushes the gamecubes graphics to the limit it might be hard to have so many enemys on screen at one time, in the trailer it only showed only a handfull of moblins, there really is no indication that there will be a full blown battle.
it's a cool idea but i don't think nintendo would do it. |

Re: A Dramatic Conclusion
That would be great! Let's hope Nintendo does it. In fact, it might happen since we saw a battle during the movie.

To Zelda Gardian: I don't mind critisism, but I think that you didn't understood my writing or perhaps I was not clear. There is no portal in Hyrule Town. Holding back Gannondorf's troops would open up a new, secret path in Hyrule Field. This would lead to a very small, linear, mysterious woods (think Forest of Faires in WW). Once you cross these woods, you would be in Gannondorf's field; cross that, and you're at his castle. (at least in my idea) |

Re: A Dramatic Conclusion
I really like that idea of yours, Shiek 84. It sounds very epic, and that it would prove to be a very challenging and worthwhile ending to a Zelda game. I'd be really interested to see that, actually. For once, it wouldn't just be Link against Ganondorf and his minions... it would be Link and the entire Hylian army against Ganondorf and his minions. It would even things out a lot more and make it seem more realistic, and would definitely make combat more interesting (having to team up with the other soldiers and work as a group to defeat the enemy, instead of always flying solo.) I mean, Link can't be the only person out there with a sword and a good heart, right?
I'm not saying Link's not special or anything. He'd get to defeat Ganon alone in the end and everything. But I really think it would make things seem very realistic and very epic if there was an actual Good vs. Evil war taking place. Very, very cool.

Re: A Dramatic Conclusion
It's not a half bad idea but could use some work. I think Ganon shouldn't be the one who tells you how to get to the castle but some other way, and I didn't see many puzzles during the whole segment. Finally it shouldn't be through woods, the path to the "dark world" needs to be more natural, I mean entering a forest from a clear blue/dark blue sky and emerging on the other and finding a wasteland, no, it needs to be more natural, such as falling into a pit and into a cave, or jumping into a volcaninc crater and endeing up in a new area.

Re: A Dramatic Conclusion
It is rare for me to find someone capable of conveying what they imagine through their writing, but I'd say you did very well. Whether I could see exactly what you meant or I took your words and imagined it myself, the result is the same, and beautiful.
As for the idea itself... I think it could be very good. Very cool. I'm not sure whether I'd actually want to see it in the game, since in a situation like that it would be very, very hard for them to make it feel like Zelda, and not like LOTR... but if they could manage to do this without removing that precious Zelda feel which I am always ranting about... Well, to say the experience would be "breath-taking" is an enormous understatement.
