Main Villain's Backstory in Future Games

How much about future villains should be revealed? Should we get a simple taste of their intentions, like we did with Vaati in tMC? Should we get little, if any at all, as we did with Ganon in all the Zelda games aside from WW? Or should we eventually learn as much about the villain as we know about the hero? I'd like the introduction of at least one future Zelda game to be completely centered on the main villain's conquests, and not on the hope that a Hero might appear. I'd like more cutscenes featuring the main villain, as we saw in Donkey Kong 64 with King K. Rool as the game progressed or in Paper Mario with the Princess Peach mini-quests.

How much would YOU like to know about Ganon?

Re: Main Villain's Backstory in Future Games

I'm pretty much content with what we know of Ganondorf's backstory. I liked how OoT explained his origins and TWW explained his motives, so I think that's satisfactory. (Although I would like to know how he escaped the Evil Realm.)
I didn't like Vaati's backstory at all - it was flat and corny. Basically Vaati was mean and didn't like other people, so he stole a magical hat so that he could rule the world. Yawn.
I want Zelda 2005 to have a new main villian that has NO connections whatsoever with Ganon. Since I know absolutely nothing about this villian now, I'm not sure how much I want to know backstory-wise. I don't think there has to be a cut scene explaining everything - maybe various hints dropped here and there would be enough at first. I just sincerely hope (s)he doesn't turn out to be another evil nutcase seeking a magical artifact in order to rule the world.

HyruleDan-he escaped over time as the seals were fading and because he had very strong magic to break it after it weakend.

The villan history was Gannondorf---Vaati----ganon explained also on the time line.

That might be logical, but it's still only a guess. TWW hadn't given an explanation of his escape, and nothing hinted that the seal weakened over time.

Re: Main Villain's Backstory in Future Games

Things like how Ganon escaped and what sort of connection Vaati had to Elzo and a synopsis of Vaati's and Ganon's childhood are what I'd like to see.

I think we should learn a little about the villain as we go along, so we know most of it by the end. Assuming it isn't Ganon, of course.

Ganondorfs backstory to me has be explaned enough IMO. I mean we really do not know if Ganondorf will be in Zelda 05 unless the trailor from Space World was actually implemed in Zelda 05. I dunno, I really hope that Ganondorf will be the main enemy in Zelda 05, I mean there is really nothing like beating him at the end of the game.

I hope that Ganon comes back for the new game. Better, not uglier.

Re: Main Villain's Backstory in Future Games

A good villian shouldn't really need a good backstory. To me this best kind of villian is a sadistic maniac.

A power hungry one (ganon) is ok but...yeah. I just perfer villains who cause pain to others simply because they get enjoyment out of it.

Ganon's backstory was pretty...generic. But I still find him to be a good villian.

Re: Main Villain's Backstory in Future Games

Tidbits dropped here and there throughout the game would be nice. And I do want Ganondorf to return, it would complete the mature feel of the game. What I do not want Nintendo to do is (like they did with MC) tell us the villain before the game comes out. I mean, in Nintendo Power, you know all about who the "mysterious stranger" is and what he's going to do. I felt like it totally ruined the surprise for me and I would hate for that to happen with the new Zelda. I also don't want a cutscene explaining the villain's whole background. Part of that should be left for speculation, and the really important bits should be hinted at throughout the game.

Re: Main Villain's Backstory in Future Games

history has shown that the best villian is one with a good backstory. comic book heroes are a good example. the villian should have some depth and personality to them, but yes, there should be some mystery to them

Which one? We've seen more than one particular Ganon. And like you said, we learned plenty about him, right before you fight him for the last time in WW. He told all.

Anyway, if they're gonna do backstories for the villains, at least put some effort into it. Vaati in Minish Cap was a joke; just another power-hungry villain with no real depth whatsoever. I'd want a new villain like with motivations like, let's see, Magneto from X-Men or Voldemort from Harry Potter - as in, a villain that went through crises and has a reason to be so flipped out.
