Town Structure
It is my opinion that every citizen in a town should have a trade (carpenter, miller, blacksmith, shoemaker, tailor, etc.), which would dramatically increase the reality and unique contribution of each citizen to Link’s journey (the shoemaker could make his boots, carpenter: a house for him, blacksmith: a sword, tailor: a tunic, etc.). In addition, to avoid unnecessary urban sprawl, each tradesman’s house would be above his shop. In addition, I believe the town should include all the typical town structures: market (open air perhaps?), town hall, exclusive club of some kind, inn, and most importantly, a central structure like in Majora’s Mask (clock tower). All these elements combined with what Nintendo already does right will make the towns in Zelda great places to be. Finally, Im really taken with the idea of completed subquests changing the town to make an atmosphere of control and progression (i.e. you save the carpenter's son so he builds you a house). Any fresh ideas expanding upon this concept?

Re: Town Structure
Way more towns need to be set up that are bigger than Kakariko Village and the Hyrule Market combined. When I look at the Zelda games, Hyrule/Labrynna/Holodrum/Termina the population seems pretty low.

I think the town idea is cool. I liked how Clocktown was set up in Majora's Mask. |

Re: Town Structure
Yeh, the towns need to be much bigger and there needs to be a whole lot more people. In Zelda 05 I hope that the towns/villages are big and there is alot to explore, find and accomplish.

Re: Town Structure
There will be the normal amount of towns/people in Zelda 05. This game is in development for just as long as the other games. We all want everything to be in this game, but at the same time we want this game to be released this year. There is no way Nintendo could have made this game have 8-12 dungeons, and have some major towns as well...there's just not enough time.

Re: Town Structure
Clock town was the best, most interactive zelda town to date. What zeldaforever said kinda bothers me though...they should take as much time as possible to create the ultimate zelda game. Wouldnt you rather have an incredible game next year as opposed to a rushed-job with 4 dungeons in the spring? I definately would....URHGHHH this game better be flawless.

Re: Town Structure
I agree with the idea regarding the soldiers, one subquest could be to protect Hyrule town from attack. Link could man the battlements and fight like in Lord of the Rings. It would not be necessary for Link to win this battle to complete the game (too predictable). If he does lose, he will have to escape from the dungeons beneath Hyrule castle, and all the shops other major structures will be moved to another town (like Hyrule market in OoT). The Royal Family could be rescued from the castle and abscond to the town of relocation as well; more interestingly, they could be trapped in the dungeons (dungeons meant in a literal sense) and would need Link to rescue them (This "subquest" would be vital, the barred doors would not open unless the Royal Family was with Link, like in the crumbling Ganon's Tower in OoT). Then, perhaps Link could come back when he procured the necessary items and free Hyrule town and castle from enemy holding (interesting place for a "side dungeon" like Sakon's hideout in MM).
The liberating of Hyrule town and castle would become necessary by the end of the game (perhaps to recieve the final item from a Royal Family member who must be in the castle to give it to Link). Of course, if Hyrule Town is not captured, nothing of that sort happens, but the possibility of its capture would make the game more realistic and less predictable.

Re: Town Structure
I agree towns should be larger, and people should have occupations. It would also be cool if the towns people actually had things to do instead of just wandering around aimlessly, for instance if a man who worked at a shop would actually have to deposit his money that he earned that day in the town bank after his shop closed. But then it might start to resemble other rpgs which we already have like fable.

Re: Town Structure
I don't really care how many citizens there are just for the sake of realism. Chances are, if the number of characters go up, the quality of the characters will go down.
As for the town itself, it had better not be pre-rendered like Hyrule Market was in OoT. There should be a few shops, some mini-games, plenty of sidequests, and lots of secrets to be found. Most importantly, everything should fit together just like it did in Majora's Mask. Other than that, I just hope that the town has neat architecture and level design. |

Re: Town Structure
I agree that everyone should have a house at night instead of disappearing. And involving most in the towns citizens would be cool too. As much as I disliked much of MM, they did have a cool town going and the new towns should be more like that with lots to do at every corner. Like WW. Granted, Windfall was smaller than Clock Town, but every house had something to do.

Re: Town Structure
Give me a really lively medieval place, with beautiful medieval architecture, more interactive and deep characters, and I'm pretty happy. I actually think the idea of a blacksmith, shoemaker, tailor, etc, sounds really cool to me.

Re: Town Structure
There should be more towns in the game, and more shops and houses in them. I liked the shooting galleries which were in oot and mm, I hope there is more of that stuff. And there should be much more people in the whole game that had a better AI, I think it's annoying when they do and say the same stuff over and over again.

Re: Town Structure
I think the main town should have about 30 houses, 5 mini games, several side quests, about 5 shops, an inn, a barrack, a tavern, a large central building, a bank, a river flowing through it, walls, and also arelegious building. I don't think this will happen because it is a bit extravagent.
