Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

Realm of Hyrule

First off, this game could take place between the Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. Ganondorf's armies are leaderless by in large and perhaps a new threat has come into the equation to a part of the triforce (maybe other demonspawn, perhaps the beginning of the twilight invasion and Zant). There would be two factions present, that would of course be at war with one another if they come across eachother (etc. Alliance/Horde). The level cap would be level 50 or 60.

Light (Hyruleans): We would have four race selections at least before an expansion launched.

Hylian: Classes would be Warrior, Paladin, Wizard, Ranger (Unique Class) and Priest.

Human: Would be similar to Hylians, however some physiological differences and less attuned to magic. Classes would be Warrior, Paladin, Priest, Rogue and Wizard.

Starting area for Human and Hylian: Queensport , a town somewhere in the vast lake Hylia with a keep and surrounding countryside. This is where training ex. lvl 1-10 would be done, after lvl 10 the player would be shipped to the mainland. Lake Hylia would indeed be vast and would need a vessel to be carried across and would be connected via rivers that would eventually empty into the ocean. The main capital however would be Hyrule Castle.

Mount: Hylian Charger, Horse

Goron: This would make the most sense out of all the other sentinent species as they are solely terrestrial. Classes could be Barbarian or Warrior (be able to wield weapons other races couldn't), Druid, Shaman as they would rely more on the elements.

Starting Area: Peaks of Death Mountain, maybe have an instanced area of it for the low level players beefore heading to a common lvl zone of the Hylian, Humans.

Mount: Use rolling ability.

Kokiri: These would be more along the lines of the WoW gnomes. They would have the classes of Warrior, Priest, Rogue, Wizard.

Starting Area: Kokiri Forest.

Mount: Perhaps some sort of medium sized flightless bird native to the forest.

Forces of Ganon (Dark)

Ganon was locked away in another realm, therefore various leaders of the races have stepped up and taken control of the factions, however they are still tentatively allied.

Brigands: These are humans that were aligned with Gannondorf, after he was sealed away they were not welcome back into society and therefore have carved their own civilization and have their own king that is bent on destroying the royal family of Hyrule. Classes would be Warrior, Priest, Wizard, Warlock, Rogue.

Starting Area: Vast fortress near the coast of the sea. They are vying for control of the waterways with the Hyrulean navy.

Mount: Dark Charger

Moblin: The pig like creatures that make up a vast portion of ganons army, they are native to Hyrule. Possibly they would start with the Anubis race in the bastion created from the Desert Colossus. They would be made up of the following classes Warrior, Rogue, Wizard and Shaman.

Mount: Boar, Armored Boar.

Sauren (Lizaflos): Reptilian race that hails from the craigs and caverns of Death Mountain (staring area), they are an ancient, intelligent and industrous race. Classes would include Warrior, Shaman, Druid and Hunter (similar to ranger but made unique in someways.)

Mount: Dodongos they have domesticated them and use them for various facets of life.

Anubis (Jackal-like creatures known as Darknuts in WW). This race is the answer to the question of why there is only 1 male Gerudo born every 100 years. Male Gerudos are born but they are monstrosities that are often ejected from the main Gerudo populace. They are strong, hulking creatures yet agile. The classes that make up their ranks are the Dark Knight (aka Darknut), these opperate much like a Death Knight (they can summons undead (aka Stalfos) and have Warlock like powers but can tank with heavy armor and a shield), Warrior, Warlock (call upon demonic powers and can raise skeletons, redead etc.) and Druid.

Starting Area: Left to die by the Gerudo populace in the Desert Wastelands they have constructed a bastion out of the Desert Colossus (would need some remodeling of course).

Mount: Much like the Worgen from WoW, this race can bear down on all fours and run great distances. They have great stamina from the extreme conditions of the desert wastes.

Professions: Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Fishing, Cooking, Alchemy, Enchanting and possibly Runeweaving.

Link if at all would only make periodic appearances, but would be largely absent from the game.

Dungeons would be set up much like WoWs and loot would be obtained for the various classes (5 to 10 man dungeons). Raids would be usually 20 men, with the major events nearing 40 men.

Systems: This game could be played on a computer or the next generation Nintendo system, the servers however would be the same and people could play no together whichever console they play on.

Like I had stated earlier each race (except Hylian and Human which would take orders from the Royal family) will have their own leaders but would work together with the other races of their factions.

Re: Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

Sounds like a completely generic MMO, to be quite honest. Most game developers are taking the online/MMO approach because they're usually the best in terms of profit, but Nintendo doesn't need to go down that road. There are far too many MMOs already, with pretty much identical features. Giving an MMO a Zelda theme would just be a gimmick, and I feel it would ultimately cheapen the quality of the entire franchise. I pray that Nintendo's never considered something like this.

Nothing seems really special about it, honestly. It is a whole lot like others. Except with Zelda characters.

Doesn't mater how much better than WoW it actually is, it CAN'T beat it (see Rift).

The only game I think Nintendo needs to make an MMO out of right now is Pokemon...

The idea of a Zelda MMO is extremely interesting, but it doesn't sound at all interesting in your description. It sounds exactly like a WoW ripoff. If Nintendo were to do a Zelda MMO I'd suggest using Minish Cap graphics and gameplay for an online Zelda world, a sandbox-ish world. But that in itself would be extremely difficult and unlikely, so I'm absolutely not expecting.

I see what you are saying, but the WoW formula works and has been tried and true. Of course there will be similarities but the fact of the matter is Zelda is in the fantasy genre, which is in the same genre as Warcraft.

Re: Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

I'm going to have to agree with the others; a Zelda MMO would need to distinguish itself (specifically, from WoW) and also have aspects that make it feel like Zelda.

Maybe a three way "morality" system involving power/wisdom/courage that would affect quests or NPC interactions or whatever.

Also, I'd scrap anything taken directly from WoW. Instead of race-specific mounts, why not situation specific mounts? Horses for faster land travel, dodongos to get across lava flows, some kind of underwater mount to get to deep/sunken locations, a loftwing descendant for reaching otherwise inaccesible places...

And personally, I don't think Kokiri should be playable. I just don't see them as being soldiers in a war. I think they would best serve as an NPC race allied with the good guys.

And I definitely agree with this. I think a Zelda or Pokemon MMO would be the only MMO I would ever even consider playing (and maybe Metroid), but Pokemon seems more likely, and like it would be more unique from other MMOs.

Re: Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

It would be fun to play as a member of many of the multiple Hyrule races and explore their stories. Zelda and Ganon would be faction leaders giving quests and the general MMO direction.

I would be a business scrub. /spit "Hey wanna buy a sheild?"

It would get kinda boring with the 'gather 50 of X' quests. But the stories of the individual races and their place in hyrule would be worth a purchase imho. Ever wonder where Moblins come from and why they obey Ganon? Or why river zoras are nice but sea zoras are jerks? Who wouldnt want to be a Goron rolling around the country side with other gorons?

Re: Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

The idea of a Zelda MMO is definitely an intriguing one, however I would rather it not be a Zelda MMORPG, if you follow me. It'd take a lot of work, but I'd rather they try to figure out how best to turn the Zelda experience we all know and love into an online world. Rather than just applying a Zelda coat of pain to the same old MMORPG formula that's been done a thousand times.

I'm not a big fan of MMORPGs, but an online Zelda definitely could be interesting. It'd have to be a HUGE HUGE HUGE game world, and probably do something like where the overworld and towns and all that are all one big server (or several servers, whatever), but going into the dungeon is something only one person and those in their "party" or whatever can do together. Because everyone running around the same dungeon just wouldn't work.

Re: Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

Are you kidding me, a Zelda MMORPG should never ever be made. Anyways, if its successful, like World of Warcraft, the money made from the real Zelda games would menial in comparison to the money from the MMO. If this happens, then Zelda as we know it would be gone forever.

Definitely no. As they said before, if Nintendo needs to make a MMO, it should be Pokemon, not Zelda.

Re: Serious Look At A Zelda MMO

A few problems with your class system. First of all, it seems out of place that there isn't any gerudo in their. Secondly, I believe that Hylian, Gerudo, etc. aren't other species from human, but other races, like arab or african.

Though, the concept of making your own character and going on quests with or against other people is interesting. A zelda MMO could work, but it won't happen anytime soon.
