The Legend of Zelda

What would you think of a possible Zelda games in which the hero is a girl (being in fact a heroin), just a funny thought that passed by when I saw a topic elsewhere. And, it is pretty possible, they could use Zelda (which over the time has shown considerable magical skills) or just a female version of Link

Re: The Legend of Zelda

*cue a barrage of angry fans screaming that Link is Zelda's only protagonist and if you think otherwise you should go die*

I think it's an interesting idea. What if the bearer of the Triforce of Courage was female and the bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom was male? I doubt it will ever happen, but it's kind of a cool concept. It would be odd not having Link in a Zelda game, though.

Re: The Legend of Zelda

It would be interesting, maybe have Zelda have to save Link for a change. or have it set up where you get to decide if you want to play as Link or Zelda and give them slightly different talents and/or weapons. The best part of that would be almost getting two game experiences as you could play through the game as one of them then play through as the other with slightly different game play due to different weapon uses. Or do a OOA/OOS type thing where its two games released at the same time that link together one game features Link and the other featuring Zelda. Or even a female Link (Linka lol) Since its been said that the different Links are not the same person but different incarnations of the Hero of time, whose to say one of the incarnations can't be female. Or hey Link has been aged, bounced around in time warped to different places, why not turned into a female?

I am die hard Zelda fan and as such I generally don't like changes to the games, but this is one that provided they keep the same feel to the game, I would actually like to see. But I do think it would have to be done right to work!

Re: The Legend of Zelda

I think it'd be a need retelling of the prequel to the TWW, where Link doesn't show up.

Ganon attacks the land, and Link doesn't appear to save it. So it is left up to Zelda to save her Kingdom.

Well, they do say Zelda lead the people to seal Ganon, so this might be viable

Zelda is the hero you play as in one of the CD-i Zelda games. Forget which game because I have yet to play any of the CD-i games.

Re: The Legend of Zelda

I think it would be interesting if you can tag-team Link with someone else, though I guess it would turn out too much like an RPG. Two player options would be fun, one Link, one girl-link
though it is a bit troublesome to tell that Link is a guy sometimes for some xD

I'm not shooting down your idea here. Cause I honestly believe in today's day and age that would be brilliant. But they did try something very similar once already.

Zelda: Wand of Gamelon
Link: The Faces of Evil

These games were released at the exact same time with Zelda saving Link, her father, and a random kingdom in one, and Link saving...a different random kingdom in another. They were separate adventures however they used an identical (and poorly made) engine and supposedly took place at the exact same time depending on which one you played first (kind of like OOA/S). However the two games really had no connectivity or canological connection.

Personally what I would like to see is a game taking place in the 7 years Link is absent during OOT. Not as the female character Zelda. But as the "male" character Sheik. The faster pace, more puzzle oriented, but less item collecty play style would more about finding out what went wrong and what happened to Link. then finding the songs along ancient Sheikah ruins so that you may some day give them to Link, once he awakens per the legend you found.

It would delve far deeper into the Sheikah lore and really switch around the play style. Due to this it would probably constitute being a shorter spinoff title. However it still sounds fun to me.

Re: The Legend of Zelda

I don't mean to sound sexist or racist, but it won't happen.

Japanese culture is geared towards males, not females. Females aren't taken very seriously in Japan.

Nintendo is Japanese. Do the math.

Why do you think that if the female, Zelda has such wisdom, even enough to see glimpses of the future, she still gets kidnapped and needs a MALE to rescue her. In every game.

If it was realistic, Zelda would shoot Ganon in the eye with a Light Arrow as soon as she knew that she could get a shot in without being seen. Notice how many problems that would solve...

You play as Zelda in 2 of them Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's Adventure. But those games are ♥♥♥♥ they're the un-holly Triforce and non cannon so they don't count but in a cannon Zelda game it'd be a cool concept.

Re: The Legend of Zelda

Heh that reminds me of when I first played OOT, I couldn't help but think, if Zelda's so damn wise, why couldn't she save her own ass? If she could be a Sheikah and survive those seven years, couldn't she defeat Ganondorf too? If she really tried. I bet she could do it. Why does Link have to do everything, jeez.

But nah, I don't think having there be a female lead in Zelda games would work out. It wouldn't feel right. I imagine you could make a really fantastic game similar to Zeldas, but with a female main character, that would be simply wonderful. But not with this series. Link has to be a boy, that's the law.

It just bugs me that the Hyrule society is matriarchal yet there has never been a heroin. Yeah, I get that videogames in general are geared toward men, but still ...

Re: The Legend of Zelda

Actually, it's quite the opposite. It's BECAUSE video games are geared to young men that many of them have neigh on clothes-less female leads jumping around in questionable poses with a 6 different physics engines, each for a different part of their body.
It's a sad truth that video games with female main characters tend to be fan servicey, which frankly isn't Nintendo's style. So for that, I'm actually kind of happy their hasn't been a game with Linkalina or Princess Zelda has the main character. The results would be...very unNintendo like.

Lets see. A Legend of Zelda game without Link and with a female protagonist.
Sure doesn't sound like a Legend of Zelda game to me. I'll pass.

Re: The Legend of Zelda

I would so play a game called The Legend of Link. In Spirit Tracks you get to play as Zelda... somewhat. Perhaps there could be a 3ds game where you control Zelda in the ordinary world and Link in the dark world, and actions in one world influences the other.

I don't want a Linka, per say. I'd like a game where you control Zelda (and please don't talk about the CD-i game... I know of its existence and I don't want to play it xD).

Re: The Legend of Zelda

I think it would be very interesting to switch back and forth between Link and Zelda in a game. In SS, Zelda had her own little adventure, and we get to see some of it in the credits. So why not make a game where Link and Zelda have separate-but-related playable adventures leading to the joined climax? They could briefly meet at certain points in the game (only to be separated again) and then joining forces for the final battle. The player would switch between Link's adventure and Zelda's adventure at certain points in the plotline. I think that would give the storyline more depth and allow players to be Zelda while still being able to be Link.
