I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

Well according to Eiji, he said that we can't go back to button mashing after how amazing they were in SS.

"I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now, so I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too."

Here's the quote.

So does that mean we will be using the Wiimote again, or instead we move the whole freaking tablet like a Wiimote(sorry, I'm really confused, because then there's ♥♥♥♥ that the tablet will be used to display this and that etc). Or will you use them together, oh god I'm getting crazy, please help me!

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

I don't know about using the Wii remote again for the next Zelda game, but button mashing is now a thing of the past.

Nintendo and the like are moving onto motion controls than the classic cord and buttons.

They're definitely going to introduce the Wii U tablet next time.

No one knows how Nintendo is going to implement the tablet as our main control for the next Zelda game.

But we're going to have to use it in some way.

Well, Nintendo is known for the way the make games. Whatever the other game producers does, Nintendo works on they own way. They came with the Wii and they now come with a controller with a touch-screen. They showed us what the wii controller and what the Motion plus can do, so let’s hope they show us what the new controller can do.

It'll be interesting how the next one will use the two controllers. I can't imagine what Nintendo will come up with!

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

I think that they're going to stick with Motion Plus (with a centering attachment to keep calibration constant, hopefully. I didn't have much of an issue with this while playing, however). They hit gold with that control scheme. The only issue that I had was I didn't like how the bow zoomed in for every shot. It should be only after holding the bowstring for a bit, not every time. Otherwise, the controls were perfect. What they need to do is expand on what can be done with those controls in tandem with more horsepower. (Also, I think that in order to get an even larger install base, they should allow you to optionally bundle the Wiimote+ with the Wii U for a nominal fee [~$5])

The tablet, on the other hand, would be a step back in terms of combat. If they used it in combination with the Wiimote the experience would only end up being unwieldy and disruptive.

Yea, that's what I think will happen. I think you will use the traditional Wiimote + Nunchuk, and use the new screen controller for selecting items in real time. An obvious issue however, is having to look down at the screen controller and not at the TV, at times. Which could cause you to lose focus slightly in the middle of a battle.

Nintendo has said that the Wii Controllers will be used with the WiiU as well. Most likely WiiU games will be a combination a Wii Remotes and the tablet.

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

Wiimote+ will be used for sword fighting, switching out items, etc etc.

Wii Tablet will be used to solve certain puzzles, it will be used as our bag, and it will be used in certain boss battles (picture in PH when you fight Bellumbeck, and you see the top screen from behind him from the Fairies eyes, then the bottom screen from your eyes). Also, it will be used to detect some secrets (select the lens of truth item on the tablet, hold the tablet up to the screen, and new secret will be revealed that you can only see on the tablet.)

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

I think it would work like this.

Swordplay with Wiimote Plus obviously. Movement with the nunchuk, and maybe the tablet would be put down near your hands reach to switch items and for the map, but that would be really annoying.

And I agree with the Lens concept, it's fun!

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

I was picturing using the tablet to draw an arrow back on the bow and releasing it to fire the arrow.

Even though the WiiU is supposedly aimed at single players so far, is it possible the Remote and Tablet will be used for multiplayer cooperation? One player uses the Remote and possibly Nunchuck while their partner uses the Tablet.

The player with the Remote and Nunchuck is Link while the player with the Tablet is a companion such as Zelda. The Tablet can function as a multipurpose book, including a bestiary for identifying monsters and a spellbook for casting spells to assist Link. Using the Tablet as a map also seems like a natural idea.

Of course, using a stylus to control Link's items also seems like a good idea. I've already suggested ways to do that on the 3DS, and with a six-inch screen there's more room for stylus input.

I agree with feelgood.
Wii remote and nunchuck will be for combat, being your sword, shield, and items.

The iPad controller will be for puzzle solving, managing equipment and looking at maps. Maybe Link actually obtains an iPad device in-game from a super advanced ancient civilization...

I hope they're able to keep in mind that humans have only two hands.

Maybe they'll be incorporating a Nintendo version of Kinect into the Wii U or something? I miss button smashing. But I don't miss the blisters from Mario Party, they were nasty.

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

I kind of hope they don't use the tablet with the Wiimote at all, it seems kind of klunky for a full fledged action-adventure game.

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

Lets hope they go for the rational route and make the tablet an unnecessary controller option with it's own little games, like the GBA connector for WW.

Needing two mandatory controllers to play an adventure game sounds far too convoluted.

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

It is possible Zelda WiiU simply won't use the Tablet, though it's unlikely given Nintendo's track record of trying to use their newest system's features wherever possible.

What I think would be more interesting though is if the game was designed with the Tablet in mind, so instead of using motion controls you use the Tablet to cast spells, command troops, or solve puzzles.

If nothing else, Aonuma is human and thus allowed to change his mind. Perhaps there will be other kinds of controllers for the Wii U besides the Tablet? Granted, hardware design will determine what all is possible, but nothing says the Tablet is the only kind of controller Nintendo's designing for the system. For now, we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: I'm a little confused about Zelda Wii U...

I think Nintendo will develop a game built for the Wii Motion Plus controls (this will take many years) and when we get a release window, they're going to delay it to make the game compatible with the Tablet.

Come on, you know it's true.
