The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

The magic meter was awesome. It has appeared in many Zelda games but has been absent for the last 4 entries into the series. It is a game mechanic that has so much potential and I miss it. Do you want to see its return?

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

In some ways I would love to see it return. But it also depends on the items you get in the game, like the fire/ice/light arrows, magic armour (they should have brought the magic meter for that in TP instead of the whole wasting your rupees which was an annoying concept) etc...

Personally I think that games such as SS was perfect without it.

But yeah, I'd love to see it return again some day.

Yes. I don't know why it ever left in the first place. Even the back cover of some TP game cases show the magic bar, but somehow Nintendo decided against it.

I would have to say Nay. I was never a fan of the magic meter.

Yes. It has been years since they have made a game that had a magic meter. You can say that SS had something similar (the stamina meter), but that was different. If the staimina meter is going to make a comeback as well, would it be possible to combine both magic and stamina together into some sort of energy meter?

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

Long as the magic is usefull, I'm all for it. I finished Alttp the other day and the spells were great and actually gave you an advantage. In Oot, spells generally weren't usefull and you would only waste it for mandatory reasons, so the lens of truth might as well be infinte like wolf senses.

A maybe option would be nice.

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

Yes. I would love to see the Magic meter return (as long as it's not useless). I'd like to see it return with uses similar to MM and AoL. Nice combination of spells, abilities (like Goron rolling and Fierce Deity sword beams), magic arrows, magic rod, etc. Oh, and the magic armor should be magic, not rupees.

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

Would it really be useful in place of, say, magical charges or ammunition for weapons? They figured out ways to make most of the originally magic-dependent items work without magic, not to mention some items like the Fire Rod were arguably more fun to use without the limitation of the meter. If magic is desired, it could be reworked into charges for each magical item and you simply refill them using magic jars or green potions.

Personally, I think the various replacements are more creative. The Magic Armor running on Rupees was strange, though.

Maybe they could implement magic in a new way: Magic Crystals. Link carries a number of crystals able to store magical energy within them. Each time you find one, it increases the amount of magic you can carry. You can also find Crystal Shards that work similar to Heart Pieces.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to take it out in the first place should be shot. What was the point in that?

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

I would have agreed strongly that it should have been brought back if you asked this question during Minish Cap & Twilight Princess. But after having played earlier games like Links Awakening Four Swords and Zelda 1 (I think it didn't have one either, might be wrong) I honestly couldn't care less for this thing. Besides, after having played many games without it, I think the Magic meter is a bit too restrictive. Take the Lens of Truth for example, it didn't use any magic in Links Awakening but apparently it does in the N64 Zelda's, I never really found any point in this thing using up your magic. In fact, I found it to be quite annoying instead. I would have hated if items like the Gust Bellow or the Minish Cap/Gnat Hat were to use up magic when you're busy solving a puzzle. You would be more worried of finding a magic jar to keep your meter nice and full instead of concentrating on the puzzle itself.

All in all, I won't complain if Ninty were to bring back the magic meter as long as they balance them out well enough. Items like the Gust Bellow and Lens of Truth should just stay infinite while much stronger items like the Cane of Pacci and the Fire Rod could take up magic just fine.

Oh well, that's just my opinion. =/

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

Nintendo should only bring it back if they can give us reasons to use it.

I hardly ever used magic in OOT, MM, and WW so it doesn't matter to me if they bring it back or not.

Plus Twilight Princess proved that the magic meter doesn't need to be in every game.

Based upon the thread's title, i'd love to see Link acquire his magical ability god of war style by beating an enemy to get it.

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

^^I'd beg to differ. TP would have at least been slightly better with a magic meter. Without it and many other gameplay additions that were mindlessly stripped away, TP was quite boring.

I love the fire spell in OOT, it was so awesome!
I not only want the magic meeter to return but give us some cool magical spells as well.
I would love to powerup my weapons with the use of some magic.

Re: The magic meter's dramatic return? Yay or Nay?

^^ Meh, if you're comparing it to Oot, I could care less. Elemental arrows were only useful for mandatory reasons, I prefer bomb arrows, lens of truth also didn't really allow you to freely explore an area due to magic restrictions. I also tried using the fire spell when a bunch of blue tektikes jumped me, after 3 to 4 uses they did not die, so I find Midna's "energy field" to be better.

Again, Alttp tells me the magic meter can be meaningful, but I'm going to agree on Twilight Princess exposing how unnecessary it has been as of late.

Quite right, I suppose Aonuma noticed it's uselessness late in TP and decided to rid of it. If they do include a magic meter again; I'd want it to be meaningful. Useful- and visually impressive.

If it's useful, sure. In OoT and onwards, it was pretty pointless, so I don't really miss it right now.
