Re: Aonuma hints at next game in Hyrule Hystoria

I hope the boat-era has ended. I want them to bring Epona back for the free transport. Like OoT3Ds.

Well, I would want to use Epona in more than one spot, but yeah.

Yes that would be nice. More like MM then (minus the long walks), but I took OoT as an example because it's the only Zelda for 3DS (since we know that the next Zelda will be released for 3DS).

Honestly, I would like any more of transportation as long as it doesn't feel as confined as it has so far lately. I would like it to take place on the same overworld "plane" as when you would walk on it. And yes, walking should be an option, with the exception for long stretches of land with nothing in them. Which should be scarce anyway.

I guess that sums up our request: being able to choose and move around freely.

Re: Aonuma hints at next game in Hyrule Hystoria

Let me guess, it's going to have a disconnected overworld, akin to SS, but with a boat. What the ♥♥♥♥ is it with these level-based, segmented Zelda games?

I guess it's cool if they make the islands big and sailing not so tedius.

Yeah, but sometimes such metaphors are used to subtley hint.

I just read it again... My first reaction was "yeah, obvious metaphors", but I'm moreso convinced that those metaphors are used as hints. Maybe not in the most literal way, but that's a popular writing technique being used.

...That...doesn't even make sense. The long "sailing" time?

Anyway, I think he was trying to use "sailing" and "voyage" as phrases. He seems to be saying that making a Zelda game is akin to going on a journey ("voyage").

Quote:
Well, to tell the truth, we’ve already set sail in a new voyage.
That's a phrase that I've heard people use before.

On the one hand, we've already had The Wind Waker and its sequel, Phantom Hourglass. On the other hand, maybe there'll be some sort of spin-off that takes place in the Wind Waker era as a launch title for the Wii U. They did have Link's Crossbow Training, after all. Who knows?

Re: Aonuma hints at next game in Hyrule Hystoria

I say bring trains and boats and flight back but don't have Link drive. Bring in paid transportation services in place of a magical warp so we can have something to do with our damn money. Or, with the right planning, you could stow away by climbing on top without anyone seeing you.

I don't want a horse at all, though. Horses are boring, they're just faster, more limited walking. I prefer tools for that. Maybe bring back some Pegasus gear, be it the boots or the seeds.

Oh oh oh! I know what it is now... It's a sailing game that takes place in an alternate timeline, where WW Link fails to defeat Ganondorf. Ergo explaining why sailing exists in the next title, because a new Hyrule hasn't been established yet and whatnot.

Re: Aonuma hints at next game in Hyrule Hystoria

I wish Aonuma had come out and specified whether or not this is a Wii U or 3DS Zelda. He was mentioning this in the same breath as Skyward Sword; so by default, I'd like to assume he meant a Wii U Zelda.

Of course, he may just be referring to this.

We really haven't had a sizable increase in the graphics department since Wind Waker. Once the Wii U Zelda releases (operating on the safe assumption that it's sometime during or, likely, after 2013), it will have been at least a decade since that jump.

Gameplay did not really evolve in a meaningful way until SS, so now I'm waiting for a graduation in the graphical and tutorial* departments.

*Relegate hand-holding to the beginning of the game, and leave it there.

SS had a HUD option for "experienced players", no? Give us the same option for tutorial elements as well.

You know what, just turn this into a full-blown difficulty meter.

I don't know about Aonuma, but Miyamoto gives hints like that all the time. He even said in one of his interviews that he likes to give vague hints and let the rest be interpreted by whomever he is telling the hints to.

I disagree! Wind Waker had a lot of potential. I'd love to see them give a boat another shot.

Re: Aonuma hints at next game in Hyrule Hystoria

It almost seems kind of ridiculous to use so many water transportation metaphors to hint the next game...

...if he had spoken in English.

But it's in Japanese, so I don't think it means anything.

Love how a simple statement can cause, not one, but two mysteries.

Are the metaphors referring to...
  1. Developing The Legend of Zelda games are like a voyage?
  2. The next The Legend of Zelda game will feature sailing?

The world may never know...

That is how the translation makes it sound

I never played WW but I was sick of it after PH. Same thing about the train in ST. It's way too restricted... And oceans is boredom to me, there is nothing to see, nothing to investigate.

WW had like 40 islands to investigate that were entirely optional. PH had maybe 2.

But instead I've heard that the traveling is extremely tedious.

So what, you just want to auto-teleport to the next location you should go?
