Four Swords Wii U?

Perhaps the Four Swords concept has been overdone . . .

But I feel the Wii U would be the ideal platform for it. The Wii U finally makes connectivity practical.

Not only would each player have their own screen, but their own touchscreen. It would be the ultimate in classic 2D Zelda arcade action.

Personally, I think Four Swords is built for offline multi-player, but if Nintendo was feeling especially ambitious, they could include an online mode.

Good idea or bad idea? If good, share some of your thoughts on the features you would want this game to include . . .

WiiU's shooting for an upper limit of two tablets to a system.

I would enjoy another FS game, especially with full online multiplayer.

Part of me is praying for 3DS connectivity with the Wii U to work around that.

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

I'd personally LOVE Four Swords to make its way to the Wii U! Maybe have some Internet multiplayer?

Aw, really? That's really freaking stupid. So basically any 4 player multiplayer game that utilizes the Wii U tablet will be asymmetric. I can't be alone in thinking this is a horrible limitation.

That's one possible solution, but then we're right back to the impracticality of connectivity . . .

Connectivity is NOT a bad idea--in fact it is quite a promising one when you can actually round up all of the people and equipment you need.

If the Wii U could support four tablets, connectivity would be viable. Yes, the tablets might be expensive, but as long as you're friends owned their own, it wouldn't be too cumbersome.

I think Nintendo needs to seriously consider this before releasing the system. It's a serious deficiency.

Isn't Nintendo rethinking the Wii U right now?

Multiple tablets might be one of the issues they're addressing.

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

Yes!
I would prefer for any future games to be more like the original Four Swords, however. Allowing players to go wherever they wanted on a single floor of the "dungeon" rather than confining them to single screens.

I would normally say that online wouldn't work very well for a game like this, but the fact that the tablet controller is going to include both audio and video chat functions changes things a bit for me.

Additionally, somewhere down the line, I'd like to see a more traditional multiplayer Zelda game. As in containing an overworld, dungeons, shops, etc. Just because while the Four Swords games are very fun, they've only been able to capture the dungoen crawling aspect of the series.

We can only hope!

Obviously I know nothing about how technologically feasible it is for the Wii U to support 4 tablets, but if it can be done without driving up the cost astronomically, they need to do it (even if it means delaying the system launch or charging a bit more).

I really like that idea.

And here's where I must awkwardly admit that I've never played Four Swords. I love the concept, but like I said, the Connectivity barrier was just too high. That's why I want to see it explored on Wii U.

I see it as a perfect complement to a full fledged 3D Zelda game.

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

They better put Four Sword Adventures on the Wii U's virtual console, I never played it because I didn't want to buy extra game boy advances, but I would be able to play it on this.

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

This is one of those games that would make me pay Nintendo 5000 kr right at the release if it was a launch title. It's FSA is probably the most underrated Zelda game of them all. Four Swords for GBA wasn't so much fun (basing from what I played on my 3DS), mostly because there were so few enemies and there was only one single boss. But FSA came later and showed just how great the concept of the game could be.

Being gang rushed by a gazillion enemies all at once and kicking all their puny asses made me feel like a total bad-ass, and teamworking with your buddies to take down a huge boss gave you this typical epic Zelda boss feeling, only difference being that you shared it with three friends (only one in my case, I could only play with my brother).

Shadow Battle was also oh-so-much fun. Being a total douchebag to your brother is possibly even more fun than working together with him.

If Nintendo are to bring back FS to Wii U, they need to bring back the big fights, even more epic boss battles, shadow battle and they need Asuka Ohta for the music too. That chick knows both how to remix Zelda tunes in a glorious way and make completely original ones fitting the theme perfectly.

It is. They originally planned on one tablet. Now they're rethinking that. Now they want to go for two.

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

Four Swords style game with multilayered overworld heading for the 3DS based on what Miyamoto said in recent interviews. (and if Nintendo realizes the importance of online, it will be online)

Mark my words.

I thought they said ALTTP, not Four Swords.

Well yes he mentioned ALTTP as an example of the overworld, but FS has the same type of overworld. In interviews earlier this year they said that another FS style game might be interesting, so we'll see.

Also in a recent interview they said that the E3 2011 Wii U demo was a starting point for the next Zelda game on that console. Did anyone even read that news?

They also pointed out that, much like what happened with the demo seen at SpaceWorld, the game could end up being drastically different than the tech demo.

Indeed. They've mentioned, I think on more than one occasion, that the final game may not look like that.

And that's cool with me. As much as I'm drooling for HD "realistic" Zelda, I'd prefer they develop a new art style from the ground up. The demo they showed looked very much like an enhanced version of Twilight Princess.

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

I'm such a novice on the more technical aspects of Game design, I don't even know what this Tablet discussion is all about.

But allot of the limits/problems of Multiplayer Gaming can be fixed by the Wii-U's screen on the Remotes. And based on the Mii Demo can't the Wii-U even got up to 5 players?

I hate how with Mari-Kart you have the divide the Screen for additional Players, limiting your view.

The problem is that the Wii U is probably only going to support 2 Wii U controllers at a time, not 4. Sadly, this would make the prospect of a Four Swords(and potentially a lot of multiplayer games) much less appealing.

Then what was the Point of the Mii Toads hunting Mario Demo? Or the NSMBMii Demo?

Re: Four Swords Wii U?

I can imagine it happening.

I was actually surprised that a console whose main sell point was to be family/friend friendly, the Wii, didn't have a Zelda game multiplayer. It would have been cheap and easy to make using, say, TWW's engine.
