Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

Some of you are insisting that its not gonna be an adventure game by the trailers.
I'm getting worried now...
Come to think of it, Skyward Sword is the first Zelda Game that didn't have a "story" trailer... All the Zelda game's trailers didn't just show a bunch of gameplay clips thrown together, it showed cut scenes from the game introducing the story in the trailer for the game.
But, I am still hopeful that this game will indeed be a adventure game.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

If we don't hear anything story related by E3, I'll be worried. I am a LITTLE skeptical that possibly the adventure aspect of the game MIGHT have been removed in favor of a more streamlined experience, but I could be wrong. I'm more concerned about the lack of footage showing Link in the overworld or a town than anything, honestly.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

Do you really need Nintendo to show you that Skyward Sword is going to be an adventure game?
Do you really want to watch the cutscenes before the first time you play the game?

I suspect that the answer to both of these questions is probably "no."

I'm going to take this further.

Does the game really need a story to be classified as an adventure game?

Not me, but to new gamers not farmiliar with Zelda, it's important to showcase the most important parts of each game. By advertising this game strictly as an action-puzzle game, that leaves many gamers in the dark whether or not there will be any exploration involved at all. I'm a little worried, especially with what Anouma went on about last year, with how the game's pacing has changed. I will be pretty disappointed if towns and overworlds are removed, they've been some of my favorite parts of the franchise.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

On the overworld worries I've been hearing: Pretty positive for the very fact that it's a console Zelda, the place being recognized as Hyrule, and the fact that Aonuma has mentioned the term "overworld" many many times...that there's going to be an overworld.

On story ****: Dude this game is confirmed to have a story, just sayin'

Obviously it's going to have a story, and a good one I imagine.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

It will have a story, I am not worried about that at all, they've talked about it many times. However, I have not heard one mention of the game's overworld, yet I hear many times how the pacing has changed significantly, which is my lone worry. I don't want Zelda to turn into a linear dungeon crawler, it's always been a true adventure game from the beginning, changing that would ruin the appeal of the series for me.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

Pretty positive Aonuma was ranting about overworld structure in some interviews and how he plans to blend dungeon design into it...basically I think what that means is that instead of dungeons just being "temples" it'll be integrated into the overworld design itself. The actual mentioning of an "overworld" implies that there is, yes, an overworld.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

Honestly, some areas of the over world such as the desert and abandoned castle area (if that even was part of the overworld,) looked very condensed and "maze-like" to me. Wether this'll end up being good or not, we can't be sure yet. But I'm wary that the lack of space could lessen the big, open adventure feeling that Zelda games are known for.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

I thought changing the dungeon-flow would add MORE adventure. I don't think that will detract from story. It really does look like they are going back to roots based on the E3 demo.

I imagine it being: (story) Link finds SS and goes to Hyrule. He explores the amazing, dungeon-esque landscape before reaching a village. He then learns how to reach the dungeon and continues exploring, perhaps through another field-dungeon.

They want to show off the new graphics and controls. That's why they are just showing us gameplay and new terrains. That's what's introduced this time around.

I'm still excited to see the villages and NPCs. I think it will be more exciting if they keep a lot of it secret before it's released.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

Hey, adventure doesn't mean story. Adventure means GOING TO STRANGE AND BIZZARE LOCALES. AND CONQUERING THEM.

Story is not required. And since Nintendo can't tell a good story to save it's life, I'll be happy if it doesn't have one beyond 'go kill evil overlord threatening land'.

More than likely if the adventure stuff didn't sell people with Twilight Princess, showing it again won't sell them this time, either. That's why they didn't hype old stuff introduced in Phantom Hourglass for Spirit Tracks.

Yes. I need some sort of reassurance that SS is going to still be an "adventure" (which, apparently, is different to "adventure game"). So far I've been given nothing of the sort.

No, but preferably there shouldn't be a load of cutscenes.

Watch anyone play the demo.

Read any of the impressions of the demo, all of which basically say "this is pretty standard Zelda, but Wii Motion Plus adds new possibilities."

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

I think it will be very similar to WW in terms of story. they even said link goes looking for a close friend in the beginning of SS. in WW it was a sister who is it in SS? either way its meant to make the story more personal. and with the ability to be very expressive with the facial features like in WW as you can see from the beginning of the GDC trailer Im betting there will not only be a story, but a very personal one much like WW. thats great.

that said the adventure aspect playing out the story will most definately be enjoyable. dont forget WM+ IS fun to play. its one of nintendo's strong points and also SS.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

Of course Skyward Sword will have a story. And if you haven't been convinced by now that it's heavily based on advenutre and action, then I propose you rewatch every single video you can find about Skyward Sword.

I think they're waiting for E3 to reveal major story-elements, as the event is likely going to be the last time they can show off Skyward Sword big time. A pretty cinematic trailer would be appropriate to take the hype in its final stages.

Re: Does SS really not seem like an adventure game??

It'll definitely have a story, but the lack of any other NPC's or a Town does make me worry slightly that Skyloft will be the only town in this game, with the rest nothing but ruins and a wild Hyrule beneath.

translate: screw everything you've seen or read, go pay attention to others' opinions.

I have seen others play the demo. I HAVE read impressions. Doesn't change the fact that it isn't hard for me to infer that SS is likely going to be about WM+ puzzles, some disguised as combat.
