I'd be interested in playing as someone besides Link occasionally. For Ganondorf, hmm....maybe the game could be like a backstory from
ALttP, or the same story from Ganon(dorf)'s perspective.
The game would begin with Ganondorf in sealed in the Evil Realm and he is trying to come up with a plan for escape of course. The first part of the game would be some quest thing where Ganondorf gains more magical powers, utilizes the strange connection between the two universes (Light and Dark) to bring natural disasters to Hyrule and somehow become Agahnim.
In the game's second part, you'd play as Agahnim, saving Hyrule from the disasters you've caused and seeking the Sages' descendents. Ganon's power allows him to be a "shape-shifter" so he could masquerade in forms other than Agahnim to escape suspicion. Finally he captures Zelda, and in that part of the game you have to race back to the tower with her before Link catches up. Then, instead of following
ALttP's sequence of events, Agahnim would begin the process of sending Zelda to the Evil Realm when Link arrives. Link can only stop the process by defeating Agahnim before Zelda vanishes, so you'd have to fend off Link in a timed battle until the ritual is complete. Then, in a cutscene Link finally beats you, and both characters end up in the Evil Realm.
Ganondorf would flee back to his tower in a shadowy form. This final part of the game could have an interesting structure, since you are doomed to fail anyway. Ganondorf would take on many different forms in this part, and try to accomplish something while Link is off rescuing the maidens. The events would wind up with Ganon back in his tower as Agahnim when Link arrives. You'd battle, and there'd be some goal in the battle other than defeating Link, since you can't do that. Link would win again, and Ganon will flee once more, this time to the Pyramid. He would take the form of Ganon here and the final battle will commence when Link arrives.
ALttP's story could be rewritten a bit here so that Ganon can ultimately beat Link now, but then something further happens afterwards in the ending cutscene and he is defeated.
Sorry for the long-winded description, it's just something I thought of. A game starring Ganondorf could work if it's done right, gameplay wouldn't have to revolve around destroying and killing, and the story could have insight into Ganondorf's character and themes regarding the futility of Evil. I dunno....what do you think of all that?
