Zelda 2005 MiniGames

I was wondering due to the new graphic change and the new and improved Teenage Link how will this affect the minigames and side quest in the game (if any, which I hope there is) Would the minigames become more serious if so would this take away the main object of mini games which is to have fun and to add a more light side to the game. I would also want to know what minigames you think would fit this game.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

Oh I'm sure no matter how serious the battles may be, the mini games will still be light hearted... maybe not as light hearted as in the past. But like every question, we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

Ocarina of Time was for the most part a serious game, but it still had its share of light heartedness. If any book movie or video game is too serious without any humor, it wouldn't be interesting because it would be too dreary. And serious mini-games aren't bad, just think of the fishing game.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

You have a point Ocarina of Time (which by far is my favorite game of all time) was very serious and had many interesting side quest and minigames. The fishing game was serious but I enjoyed it. I would like to see more of that. Also sense you will be able to ride a Horse (not proven as Epona) and use your sword I beleave they could make many interesting mini-games with that.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

I think that they might have a combination of both serious and non-serious mini-games and side-quests. I believe with this new style that they are capable of doing a lot more than they have ever been able to do in Zelda games, and I think we may start seeing more side-quests, and the Zelda games becoming longer because of side-quests and more depth.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

unless key characters are killed off in the new game the new Zelda will be no more "serious" than tWW which was pretty drastic in the sense that you were rushed all over the place before it was too late. Heck the world was already flooded, it didn't seem Like Ganon had to work too hard to finish it off. No, tWW was no less serious than any other Zelda game, just because the graphics looked cartoony doesn't mean it had a baby theme.

Why wouldn't the minigames be as fun and 'lighthearted' as they always were?

Right... there is no reason for that to change...

I was just wondering how they would introduce minigames that are "Lighthearted" in such a serious looking game. Although this game does resemble Ocarina of Time (which had plenty of good minigames and side quest) this game also takes place during a big war (or it appears to) and I just didnt understand how they could add minigames without making it appear as if they were just adding them in. Basically I would like minigames that followed the story line in some way.

I hope this makes sense

AAAAAAAAAUGH!!! Oh, please!! It's not that dark a game! No Zelda game is that serious! In an interview, they said if you wanted a darker Zelda game, MM is, and let me tell you, MM is not that dark a game!! I've heard this one too many times. We know absolutly nothing about the game itself, and yet we're making assumptions that it is serious and dark and bloody and mature and all these other things. I'm sure there will be minigames, no Zelda game is without them. There are always light hearted things in Zelda. Even looking at those Boar-Riding dudes in the Trailer, they don't look too serious to me.

Basically, do not assume things about the game and say its not lighthearted at all. We just don't know.

Oh, and Link2005, I'm sorry. ^^ It just seems that everyone makes these assumptions so early, and I doubt the game will be as dark or mature as we say it will.

Its okay I like to hear peoples ideas and opinions.

I agree that we may be judging this game to early we dont even know the storyline yet.

However I never said that I beleaved it was to bloody or dark. If it were to be that dark and bloody it would not be a true zelda game. I simply wanted to know what minigames would fit with this game and not take away from its realistic mood. I made this thread to hear what minigames you guys would want to see in the game so please tell me your thoughts

I also read that interview saying that the darkest game they made was MM and come on how dark can a mask that can float and apparently talk. SO only the future can tell what is in store for this game but I see nothing but good.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

I thought Majoras Mask was dark in how an ancient demon took advantage of the Skull Kids character flaws in an attempt to destroy the world. Majora was really creepy.
But that's not what this thread is about, so I'll get back on topic. I'd like to see an updated return of the fishing game, as well as plenty of races, like in Majora's Mask. I also hope there are plenty of varied minigames that test your skill with the weapons you collect. For example, you have a certain amount of time to get through a maze, but you have to use the hookshot to get across the platforms that make up the maze. I don't know if that would work, but I think you get the idea. As for the seriousness of the minigames, they shouldn't be downright goofy but they should be light hearted and fun.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

There is bound to be a bunch of minigames in the new zelda. Hopefully they will be run by humerous characters

I agree, I would like to see more races. I cant remember but did we every race with Epona (other than to actually get her) because I would like to see more horse races. And for your Idea about a maze with a time limit and the use of the hookshot I dont see how that wouldnt work it sounds cool to me, kinda reminds me of the race with dampe to get the heart piece were you had to get to the appointed spot in a certain time limit.

Oh, I wasn't reffering to you. A lot of people are saying things along those lines, based off of one trailer they've seen and a small interview.

Now I'll answer the question: I'd like to see less annoying Dampe races, actually. I didn't like that much. I want a easier bombchu bowling, another key game where you open the chests and one has a key in it, a game along the lines of the Goron dancing games from the Oracles, but not dancing per se, because that might look weird. I don't know what will be in the game, but I know the game will be good. I'm really looking forward to it.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

If you take the mini-games out of Zelda, you get a Zelda with much less replay value. Just think of the mini-games in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, I can see most of them being similar to the ones in those, even though the variety of mini-games was pretty selective.

Re: Zelda 2005 MiniGames

The use of minigames exploded in MM, which is one of the reasons I love that game. And yes, there is variety. There is a race for each of Link's forms, the Treasure Chest Shop, Honey & Darlings', Deku Playground, unique Shooting Galleries, and the jumping game in Great Bay to name a few.
On a different note, I found this interview on IGN:
There are some ridiculous questions asked about cooking minigames; it's funny how off topic the interview goes. I'll quote that part below:
Quote:
Q: In your GDC presentation, you made an analogy about cooking. Any chance you might incorporate a cooking mini-game into the Legend of Zelda?

Eiji Aonuma: [Laughter] To tell you the truth, I've been thinking for a long time about how I could work cooking into a game somehow. But the fact of the matter is that cooking, when you stop to think about it, is pretty boring. It's really slow work and there's not a lot you can really do to make it seem very exciting. I guess if you watch television in the US there are a lot of cooking shows and they somehow manage to make it seem exciting. So maybe if, going forward, I can find a way to make cooking seem more exciting and allow people to have fun with it, I would probably try to put it into a game. Maybe if at some point down the road there is cooking in a game, you guys can all look back and say, "Hey. I bet Aonuma did this."
Q: Do you cook often?

Eiji Aonuma: Yes. Every day.
Q: Are you a good cook?

Eiji Aonuma: Whenever a Zelda project is complete, I host a party and cook rice curry for everybody. So now whenever I ask a team member to do a difficult task, then the team member says, "Okay. You now owe me one dish of curry."

Q: Does your cooking pass the Miyamoto test?

Eiji Aonuma: I have never asked Mr. Miyamoto to eat my curry.
As for the Hookshot maze thing, maybe it would be cool if there was a canyon and you had to use the Hookshot to go from platform to platform on the sides of the canyon, and there's something or someone in the river below who you have race or something.
Wait a second. That kinda reminds me of Spiderman. (Link=Spidey, Hookshot=web, canyon=buildings, river=road, someone/thing=criminal in car) Maybe Link could have a hookshot in each hand that would latch onto the canyon, and he would have to swing his way across the river
