Secondary Characters

If any Zelda game did this well it was Majoras Mask. The characters alone made this game rank up their with OoT in my opinion... me being an Adventure game-type person. However, I realize it will be hard to make secondary characters with such depth again without another repeating routine...

If Nintendo, however, manages to make background characters with as much depth and color as those in MM, it WILL be the best Zelda in my book. As long as the rest of the game is up to snuff, of coarse (which it will be).

the secondary characters I felt most attached to were Anju and Kafei, esp when after he got the mask back and I just warped back to Clock Town and waited for aaages with Anju, it was so romantic and a really nice touch, saying they were going to face tomorrow together

except I had to warp back to day 1 *sigh*

Exactly. Kafei is my favorite secondary character of any Zelda game.

It is the character atatchment that made the whole side quest worth while... not the reward. Mask that does nothing.

Are you sure the mask doesn't do anything. I bet everytime you play MM, and look at that mask, it reminds you of the two lovebirds...it's a little momento for you to keep and remember them by. Now, can you truely say that the mask does nothing? Can you?

I don't give a damn about love, if you wear the Couple's Mask in front of the Mayor you're supposed to be getting a Piece of Heart, I think.

Anyhow, I loved that sidequest, getting the Couple's Mask and helping Anju and Kafei.
I only like the Couple's Mask because it was the last mask I had to achieve in order to get the Fierce Deity mask.

And yes, MM was great. I like it as much as OoT, but some nostalgic fools always disagree strongly.

Yeah, I know what it "does". Once. But really, would you do that quest just for a peice of heart? Well, you would, but it would not be nearly as fufilling. It was the characters that made the quest worth it.

Well, surely the main motive for most people during the Anju/Kafei quest was the piece of heart and Couple's Mask, but knowing how it all ended up does leave a good sense of fullfillment, and without the characters, I would have probably have been bored quick and hadn't buggered with it, after all, the whole process is pretty arduous.

And yes, the secondary characters in MM made it a lot more enjoyable, in my opinion.

I had no idea what I was going to get when I did the quest. Yeah, I sort of knew it would be a mask... it's always a mask. But... y'know.

I don't know about the characters. I just did it for the mask, even though that was one of the coolest quests ever.

The anju and Kafei Quest gave you a lot more than a piece of heart also.

You get 4 masks.

2.Keatons mask
3.Couples mask
4.Postmans hat


You also can get a bottle.

I think Wind Waker did a pretty good job of connecting with secondary characters. It wasn't as great as MM, but it didn't repeat either. There was an awful lot of sidequests becuase the world was so vast. Windwaker II takes everything from part one and enhances it, so I have faith in it.

I disagree, none of the sidequests in Wind Waker where anything as huge as the Anju/Kafei quest. And I hope there are more memorable characters in the new on than Wind Waker. The majority of Windfall characters had nowhere near as much personality as the likes of the laughing twins, Anju and Kafei obviousely and the postman. Saying that however, the eskimo guy is legend.

I really connected with the characters in MM and I do hope that Zelda 2005 will contain sidequests etc with memorable characters. As I speak, I'm playing through the Anju/Kafei saga on MM. I just posted the letter and I'm waiting for Kafei to open the door so I can get into his house (I'm going through it to get the Bottle from Kafeis Mother). I think WW did let you connect with the characters, but obviously not as much as MM. The characters are not as memorable as the ones in MM. And I agree with Jaz about the Eskimo He is a legend.

It needs the secondary characters, just like in MM. That's one of the reasons it turned out so great, so I think they should incorperate some in it to give it some memorable moments.
